1. Score Attack should be unlimited rounds and unlimited time.

2. Why the fuck is radar off in Score Attack?

3. Grunt/Jackal/Brute/Skirmisher/Leader wave progression is so boring, mix em up a little why don't ya.

Firefight really does need an update, not that we'll ever see one.

Isn't that just the cloud skull turning on?

Also, I want a non-MLG playlist that is dedicated to no radar. THAT'S ALL I WANT.
Halo 4 wishlist:
-Radar is improved to cover the entire map, showing heights and locations of enemies at all times. Also includes view cones to tell where they're currently looking. Can never be disabled. Increased size to better see it.

hahaha, ass. i was just talking to tashi that the current radar might as well just give everyone waypoints.

I just checked and yeah it is. Still stupid, get rid of that junk. In Score Attack you don't have teammates watching your back so radar would be nice. Add Cloud and other skulls in consecutive waves.

Lol, the irony of me posting about wanting radar in FF while others want no radar playlist in MM.

I haven't played score attack in ages, but I thought it was added in after a few waves... maybe the first skull added?

Skulls are only added after rounds. Maybe it gets added in Arcadefight, I don't know because Arcadefight is trash, but in Score Attack (which is where you play solo) it's on from the get go.

Ah, my mistake. I do notice when cloud is off in FF... it makes it a lot harder to figure when you are getting surrounded.

We have community maps, gametypes etc. Why not community firefight gametypes? Kick FFArcade out and add Firefight Community with community gametypes.

Zayne was a LOT of fun to play with.

Zayne and Drunk Hypah were the Devo/Timedog pair. I miss him so much. But you won't be back. Reach destroyed his faith into Bungie or Halo or me.

This was the same argument that Napsta was making, and it's just not realistic. Reach isn't played in a vacuum with DMRs. There are several common ways a player can end up with an odd amount of shields on either side of a Pistol/DMR/Needle Rifle round's damage (each weapon does a different amount of damage, more so in the TU gametype because of the alteration to pistol damage). Grenades are the biggest cause of variable damage, but automatic weapons and recharging shields also contribute.

Going for headshots is significantly more costly than center-of-mass shooting with bloom, and a clear, visual/audible feedback system helped savvy players play smarter and more deliberately. It's just a sloppier game. People spam out the weapons more because they're less inhibited by the reduced bloom, and they don't think as much about their melees because the timing of their melee matters less. Headshot kills through shields are mostly a random occurrence (there may be some shot-counting you can do, and maybe someone can provide some examples, obviously there's the pistol).

I'm really excited to see what 343i does with Halo 4, but the TU bucket-o'-changes gametype has always felt sloppier to me than the basic game, and I don't appreciate Reach being used as a test subject if that's what's been going on. Hopefully it's just a misguided attempt to placate sub-communities that couldn't accept Reach's design methods.

Like Devo was saying, the removal of bloom would help a lot with what you mentioned. Reach failed at that by not introducing a RoF, but it will be interesting to see what happens with Halo 4.

It's ten times better than the Halo 3 Pistol. I tried using it the other day. SUper weak and jarring.

Its funny because the Halo 3 Pistol has the exact same shots to kill as the Reach pistol does. It just goes to show how much the gameplay has changed when the weapon goes from unbearable in one game to viable in the next.

The mechanic is not different from game to game. It is client-based, for one. And latency and packet loss diminish the game in every way, not just with bloom. I've watched shots not count in ZBR games, too.

And no, I wasn't. I was likening having a bloom mechanic to playing Poker, it's a game of risks, and human interactions with personal style.

I like Poker, and that's why I find your post blasphemous.

For me, the sniper in Halo 3 is by far the hardest one to use in the series.

It is

The Reach Sniper has ridiculous auto-aim. The last few times I played Reach I was using a broken controller (which for some reason works well for SSX lol), my sniping was piss poor, I did miss almost all of my shots, but the ones that hit didn't even require proper aiming lol.

This is because the Halo 3 pistol had the RoF of a fucking musket.

Ah. So here is Game Reactor's interview with Bungie. Why didn't he talk about Halo 4?

On a more serious note, he talks about how weary he was of Halo while working on Reach. I wonder if that affected the game's development, and how widespread the sentiment was.
I would say the Waypoint forums but he's already been today..

I don't see him state that anywhere.

We took this opportunity to embrace everything we had done over the series. We gathered up all the success and cut away many mistakes. Then we decided to go back to the place where Spartans like the Master Chief began. Halo: Reach became our own personal swan song to a franchise that I helped create a decade earlier. I had fallen in love with the universe, grown a bit wary as it had become a mega success, and ultimately was ready to say good-bye. But I was given a chance to take one more look at it with fresh eyes.

To do this, we didn’t simply skin the Halo 3 engine with a new story and fancy art. That would have been easy (and probably would have made the powers above us much happier). Instead we decided to do it right and rebuild the game from the ground up – because it was the only way we could bring this final game to life and do it justice. We built Halo: Reach to be one of the most sophisticated and feature rich games the world had ever seen. It took everything we had, but when Reach finally launched out into the world we felt proud that it could stand up to the legacy of Halo created and built by Bungie.

If anything were to be construed out of those words, Lehto was burning out while they were working on Halo 3, and was re-energized after being given complete control over Reach. But I'm not going to put words into his mouth.

Was that the mode where everyone had like one life each? I would love a mode like that, leads to some pretty interesting moments. Doubt it would get played much by the majority though lol, no one wants to wait that long in respawn. :(

Any "sit out" gametype is doomed to low population, unfortunately. Stab-Out was another one people seemed to quit out of..

But I really think Dax misread 'wary' as 'weary'.

I think Dax misread the part where Lehto stated that he was tired out before Reach, but being given 100% control over Reach made it fresh for him. Hence the fresh eyes line and the entire following paragraph.

It was certainly slower than the other weapons, im still tempted to say its about on par with Reach though considering how bloom effects the game. Maybe im just forgetting how slow it was lol.

BRING BACK TEAM TACTICAL.

This is how Bubble Shield should've been: small, one man bubble.

Heh, i know HaloGAF would hate this but grenades that form small Bubble Shield would be awesome. Throw one at an enemy carrying (and preparing to fire) a rocket launcher...
Save team mates. Annoy team mates. Save enemies. Trap grenades. You could do all sorts of awesome stuff with those.

Can we get that mercenaries playlist where everybody is alone but then teamed up so we have a playlist where you don't get shit on by a team of four fat kids when you have noone else on?

Should I get a PS3. What are the advantages. Does that system have any games yet?
I'd like to know this too. I tried the Killzone demo and found it incredibly lacking. I've played the Uncharted series, which was fun for a one-time playthrough. No idea what else to get. Maybe Bioshock Infinite whenever it comes out this year.

+1 for the Mercenaries playlist. I play alone most of the time, and that would be a godsend for me.

I don't see him state that anywhere.

No, it was basically halo 3 sans the radar, also yo momma.

I feel like a bit of jerk for wanting to critique/call out Marcus on a few bits of his blog.

It's certainly been entertaining to read over.

Art wise Reach was impressive. I didn't personally like the aesthetic as much but that's more subjective than anything.

The article does make me wonder what other areas he was a part of. It sounds like he was heavily involved in the game design aspect when he talks about struggling to generate fresh ideas but he was primarily involved in the art side of things right? I can certainly see how working on the same series can be dull artistically.

My momma used to play it? She probably kicked your ass.

The Halo Community make me laugh ! I mean, there is no big information about Halo 4, and when dudes see a "poor" video, with a 343 logo and a release date, they believe it, and speak about it like it was an official announcement.

Next Time, me and my team will create a fake about Halo 5 before holidays 2012. Be sure to not fall into this trap.

Edit : In fact, that made me laugh when I see our video on CVG & cie : http://www.computerandvideogames.com/337599/halo-4-release-date-november-21/

We should put a Destiny logo next time (free advertising \o/).

Biggest difference for me from Reach to 3 has to be the Active Roster. So easy to take for granted.

It's funny. I think the Active Roster is Reach's best contribution to the entire series. For a game with such a strong multiplayer component, the Active Roster is pretty much essential. The information it effortless conveys is important and having it all laid out for you is just perfect.

You can see who's on. Who is partied up into which parties. How long a party has left in a game and overall score. You can find all of this out in seconds in one screen for most part (sometimes two!) - something that used to take a serious chunk of time and many, many deep dives into the 360 OS.

Going back to Halo 3 feels like a generation backjump due to the lack of Active Roster and I honestly cannot imagine playing Halo in future without it.

Fine. See you SSXaturday.

Indeed :p

It is so weird though yeah. I can't help but feel as though I am 'in the dark' about what my friends are doing on 3. At least in Reach I could see Gui is matchmaking on his own. Hah, what a loner! Oh wait no, he's just doing some Score Attack. What's that? Overdoziz is on hisown? What a loner! Oh wait he is in Forge (practicing his 1v1's :p).

My only gripe about the Active Roster is the phrase 'Invite to party'. It isn't an XBL party. It's a Reach party... but it's really more of a lobby. My only gripe!

Yep I agree with all of this. Going through those steps on Halo 3 was a lot more time consuming. Active Roster has it all there for you, for all of your friends at the same time. It really is a good system. These kinds of social systems are what I feel Bungie are ahead of the curve with, and im honestly nervous about how 343 are going to implement a whole host of stuff they made seem easy.

By using the Reach engine as a base to start with? :-D

Hell no.

If you simply mean copy stuff like the Active Roster, than im all for that. However the Reach gameplay is something I hope they steer well clear of. Also by simply copying what Bungie has already done your not exactly going to be ahead of the curve. Bungie will do some very interesting, ancillary to the gameplay stuff with Destiny and Halo will be playing catch up. Unless 343 has the kinds of people that are also on top of those kinds of systems. Its the simple stuff that makes games so good. Active Roster is pretty simple, yet so effective. Ridernet is similar. I hope 343 has people with similar UI and User Experience mindsets. That said if the gameplay is good enough I can live without that stuff lol.

They're using the Reach engine as a base and modifying it, that has already been established, Frankie verified quite a while ago. That doesn't mean Halo 4 will have Reach's exact gameplay, it simply means they have the code for Reach and can use it as the starting point.
