Why can't everyone buy for support?

not everyone is made of money, and some people {like me} have been burnt by buying support games not to play them but just to support the devs. I have decided not to do this anymore, and just spend money on things that I genuinely want to play.

This is a game I genuinely want to play btw.

i was going to say it's too anime and colorful for people who are looking their next AAA title to purchase.
It seems most likely that this is strictly for Tales fans and maybe a few others. It's a shame, I would really love for this game to sell millions. I can dream...

I completely understand where you're coming from and I've been in similar situations a number of times. There's just too many games.

This game really should be $40 retail.

millions of people have a facebook acount, so that dream might as well come true.

Seriously though, stop going the Facebook-only route Namco. You are purposely sending this to die. Also 7 is a pretty good score for Graces. I honestly thought it would be lower because it's a port.

That sounds reasonable. Thanks!

Would you say that it's better or worse than Symphonia, Abyss, and Vesperia?

I like better than all 3 in terms of gameplay. As a whole I like Vesperia the best from the four. Also, you might want to stop double posting. I know you're excited and all but just saying. rofl.

If there really are voiced skits the price tag is worth it to me. After playing tales of the abyss 3DS it's incredibly jarring having the skits not be voiced.

It wouldn't be bad if you could skip text once you have read it, but nope you gotta wait 10-20 seconds for a line to end, and most skits have 5 or more lines.

Haha yeah I just noticed I was. I don't know how to double quote in a single post yet. I'm a beginner. :p

And thanks for the info. I'm getting more and more excited!

Voiced skits are the best skits. They really add to the writing in the skits & I legitimately laughed at some of them in Legendia.

And I agree, the text moves along faaaaar too slow in skits.

It's pretty crazy that a Tales game is coming to the wesside (aka the besside). It's been so long...less than 2 weeks away.

I played it years ago on the wii, but I only know level 2 Japanese. I...just went in for the combat and tested things out.

I hope to learn a little about the plot this time around.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Not buggy at all. The Wii version was buggy though. I'm wondering if they fixed the Dualize glitch...

Maybe by next month this will be 40~. I'm holding off due to my plate being full so I hope people are going to support this. If it's still 60 in APR, I will still buy it so I'm really not trying to get cheap but things just aren't lining up right for me to make the time for this game like I want to this month.

New egg just had a $12 off deal or something like that.

What is Namco's deal?! It's like they don't want any money. I'm sure everybody wonders this.

Reading Kayos' review as we speak.

I read the last sentence though:
Perhaps Tales of Graces f is being released a little too late.

I'm going to love this review and nod my head in agreement to each sentence in this review I see.

The "archaic choices" you mentioned don't bother me one bit. In the non-worldmap areas in Tales of titles i've never felt like I needed camera controls and dialogue boxes aren't detrimental to my gameplay experience.

and i've come to expect questionable story choices from videogames, so I won't be bothered if there are too many super kawaii desu uguu~ POWER OF FRIENDSHIP scenes in the game.

your gameplay descriptions just wanted me to buy the game even more.

wagh.

The word "archaic" makes me rage. (._. )

Just because you don't like something, and it happens to be in older games, that doesn't mean it's an outdated design decision. And even then, I have no idea how "dialog boxes" can be considered archaic in the first place. That's just weird.

Just my thought. I couldn't really think of anything beside the word "archaic" so meh. Come on, we've already argued over this. Should we do it again?

why not just.....................not use the word archaic? i would have been totally fine with you listing what you thought of as negative about the game if you didn't use that word.

or not using anything that's a synonym for archaic either. just say that you dislike the choices without implying that they should stay in the past

Because Archaic is how I felt. If I could find a different word that depicted it I would've trust me. Rofl.

Pretty nice review kayos, I think it's pretty informative without giving away significant details.

Also, I am not sure how replacing a word with a synonym would change anything, text boxes are an information communication method from an earlier time so I think it makes sense in this context.

Thanks for the comments on the review. I try not to use synonyms unless it indicates that's how I feel or my thoughts/feelings gets lost in the review. Never ever use a thesaurus unless you use it to use words you already know.

I don't particularly agree with the enemies being "too" easy as a negative, because Tales generally has pretty tame enemies on Normal mode.

Why do you think dialogue boxes are archaic by the way? That's the part of the review that bothered me the most.

Overall, the review is pretty good and it summarizes my feelings towards the game and its combat. Good to hear that the characters play off of each other well, a forgettable plot is something I can endure, as long as it isn't always in your face.

How would you say (briefly) this compares to tales of Xillia?

Edit: Err, story/character wise I mean. You already mentioned you think combat is better in Graces.

While I don't particularly agree with how story sequence are carried out in games, a lot of games are heading in the cutscene or immersive-esque route. What I mean is that many RPGs have their content either voiced or make the cutscenes seem seamless. Textboxes on the otherhand are glaring marks on the screen. Aeana makes brings up a good point for me in that it's sort of preference and we discussed this a while back. It's essentially preference and I think it's a detriment to the game. Xillia fixed this in a lot of ways but text boxes do exist still but it's done better.

There's my Xillia Review. It sums up my thoughts pretty nicely.

Now that I read it, that review sucks. Rofl. Maybe I'll rewrite it later.

Honestly, I feel like Kayos90 wrote a truthful review on the game. I'm glad on the good notes and the bad notes, it's great that despite that he's a fan of the game that he's not ignoring the flaws and instead pointing them out and saying how this could be attributed to the fact that the game is a three year old Wii game and there is going to be problems.

Honestly, I'm not picking the game up at launch. I might pick it up at a later point but right now I'm not in the position to be able to spend the money on a game that I don't really have the time to play at the moment.

I like the review kayos90 very well written though I have a question for you. In the review you mention that the story is kind of bland and I wanted to get your feeling on where it ranks compared to other Tales of stories in particular Vesperia and Abyss.

Well, I analyze stories quite heavily and I essentially break it down to: Plot, Theme, and Characters.

So... here it is if we're taking Vesperia, Abyss, and Graces into consideration

Plot: Abyss
Theme: Vesperia
Characters: Vesperia

If you want more in detail then feel free to ask. Rofl.

three years is that long ago? even as far back as 2004 seems to be recent to me.

i don't really think that games have advanced far enough to make those design choices be archaic. is a rotatable camera needed if the fixed camera is so good that you never feel that you need to rotate?

dialogue boxes are there because not every game developer has the time, money, knowhow, or manpower to make final fantasy quality fully animated cutscenes.

does he have every right to dislike these things? yes! does this mean these concepts should stay in the past? nah.

Well, my response would be that would be this: just because it was used a few years ago doesn't mean it wasn't archaic or okay. Also, I feel like games have come a long way since then so, my review sort of reflects that as a result. Mind you I gave Vesperia a very good review when it came out.

You are right in that not every developers have the time, money, etc. However, this doesn't mean that we should give them freebies. It also doesn't mean that I'm right. It's just a preference and my thoughts.

Hey good review Kayos90. Gave me a pretty good idea of what to expect. I'm guessing my experience will be a little less negative due to the fact that I think Tales games are the epitome of fun. I liked it though. Nice job.

i have nothing against you for disliking what you dislike.

but, like you said, this is going nowhere so i'm just going to stop arguing.

We're not really arguing more like discussing. I sort of don't understand why you don't think it's archaic though. Or your thoughts in general.

i would say that "if it ain't broken don't fix it" but that's a bit too simplistic of a view.

so I will say "If it still works when compared to contemporary standards does it really need to be fixed?"

i don't think that fixed cameras, if done well enough, are a bad thing.

dialogue boxes to me show that the game did not have a 33 million dollar budget. That's how much FFX cost didn't it? From what I know FFXIII was SE's most expensive game. I shudder to think of how much was spent on it. tales of games don't sell well enough to justify these things.

All valid points. I guess it all depends on our critical nature. You tend to be more forgiving whereas I am on the opposite side of the spectrum. I think that that second quote represents a "good" or "average" remark from me. Anything that goes and above that gets a "great" or "excellent". I do see your point though and it's completely valid. Though I still disagree about low budget, or w/e, means we should be less critical. If that was the case then I don't think video games would advance as much as it could.

What do you mean by theme. I never played Vesperia but I did play Abyss. Could you give an example by stating Abyss' theme.

i'm not critical towards these things because i don't think of them as negatives. trust me when I say that I can be very critical towards the things that I honestly dislike.

It's in the RPG title when they announce the game. I guess not many people know about it. Vesperia is "To Enforce One's Justice." Abyss is "To Understand the Meaning of Birth."
