Hopefully sprint is 100% of the time button press. I would guess it is a perk now, but if so I hope it is similar to sprint in other games.

i think sprint is always present and the perks will influence traits like base speed, jump, possibly damage and shields. i dont expect them to be major changes. just my own speculation of course

Great previews, although I was hoping for more. Looks like Halo to me! Although the idea of ability unlocks/progression raises a little concern.
 
This seems REALLY unlikely to me. :)
It just seems that way to me because it's faded in a similar fashion to the visor linings. There are other such decorations near the top of the shield bar and to the left, whereas all the GUI elements are more prominent, even the inactive ones like the grenade spots that are vacant.

Who knows though, maybe it's related to perks or something.

I hope there's an option to completely disable base trait perks for certain playlists, so MLG can refrain from including them for example.

The +5 by the medals are the first peek at the credit/reward system I've seen so far.

Also worth noting that the team score increases by 10, from 389 to 399. So it looks like Slayer is switching over to a merit-based scoring system where lame-ass AR charges get you points for the kill while headshots and sprees kick up your score substantially.

There are three spots for grenades, or something, in the HUD:

What are the three bars below the health meter? Sprint meters?

They look like little health gauges; maybe team health indicators so you can see how your teammates are doing?

Tell me the perks are not unlockables. That's the worst thing in COD, anyone who is higher level has advantage over lower levels.
I'm fine with perks but i'm not fine having them as unlockables.

Crucial point. Default Sprint is the best sprint.

Now, I wonder what Perks they are planning? Player perks? Weapon perks? As long as they have perkless MP options, that will be find the many fans.

It still has a huge effect on player behavior, allowing people to escape and enter engagements at much great speeds, reducing risk and slowing down match progression. I mean, I'm talking about Reach style sprinting. Maybe it'll play out differently with H4.

In H3 you could ascribe points to Headshots, Assists, etc in custom games. I don't think you can infer a switch, perhaps a new game type?

Come the fuck on, seriously. No one in this thread can honestly say this doesn't look like Reach. I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, but if Frankie had posted this .gif 6 months ago under the guise of being a Reach.gif you guys wouldn't know the difference. I would love to agree that this game looks a million times better, but it's simply not true.

You realize that's in a dimly lit environment, right? Look at all of the other gifs. I mean, every gif that isn't the one you pointed out has more vibrant colors and ditches the dark 'n gritty-but-not-really feel of Reach.

i cant imagine that you would not be able to set up a game with everyone at default armor, ie no perks

Fall is from September 21 - December 21. So Holiday/Fall 2012 are pretty much the same thing in terms of releases. Unless Microsoft has some sort of wildly misaligned Fiscal Fall.

good idea about the team health bars, but i'd imagine they'd need to be a touch bigger for that. unless of course, its just an icon that flashes when a teammate is engaged

The game looks like a faster Halo 2. About all I can say.

I think it's more likely that it's 10 points per kill, and the guy's teammate got 10 points for killing the red player

Ah, I didn't put the two together, I did notice the score jump by 10 though. I'd love to hear more in depth about this new scoring system.

Yeah, they're quite transparent. Maybe they're just a decorative feature, or they aren't intended as more than just something cool you can see but they don't want to crowd the UI with. Like "Oh, my teammate is getting shot", but without names or icons or anything it's just kind of an aesthetic. After all, we haven't had that in previous games, so it's not like something we need.

I'm not really sure what to think about what they've shown. Some very mixed feelings. I think the action looks great from those snippets, but I can't really say without knowing what that perk and loadout system is, because that could make or break everything. That there probably isn't going to be a beta for us to see how this works and give feedback prior to release is kind of baffling.

The lighting is easily the most impressive thing about the video for me.

Holiday can = fall. Thanksgiving is what I am guessing is meant by holiday 2012. I would guess a November release.

Im glad 343i are keeping Single Player under wraps at this point. Always best to go in cold. However, the actual look and feeling conveyed in those brief shots of the multiplayer levels remind me of the lifeless MP levels from Reach.

Time to go back to Halo 2 and look at those maps. Yes, Im happy that the maps are designed specifically for multiplayer but if they are dull to look at, makes me think they will be dull and lifeless to play. Prove me wrong 343!

Loadouts have already been confirmed.

Everything looks soooo goooood!!!!! I'm so hyped right now! This game looks like, 20x better than Reach just because of the real time lighting and shadows! I can't wait to see what we can do with the lighting in Forge!!!

I know we are gushing over a couple gifs at this point but man it really does give the sense that they have taken the straight jacket off of MP. I just want a controller in my hand to move around in this game!!!

You sound most upset about your own conclusions.

Technically it looks not too far ahead of Reach, sure. Artistically it's a different direction completely. And even then, what's the problem with vaguely resembling the previous entry in the series? Surely that should be a pre-requisite given they run on the exact same hardware.

Just watched the trailer. Nice to finally have some footage.

What do we have so far?

-No health bar so no health packs
-BR
-Looks like large jump height
-A pistol (pics of the chief)
-Scoring for slayer is different in this gametype. (What's that Halo gametype that gives points for certain style kills? It could be that)
-Clip in gun doesn't seem to match the clip in UI. Don't know if that's a current bug or whatever (Maybe it was a 4shot rifle?)
-3 little hollow squares that top right of the screen. Don't know what they could represent. Possibly the perks that have been mentioned
-Didn't see a grenade part of the HUD
-Teammates on Radar show up in Green rather than Yellow now.
-Radar also shows elevation with little arrows pointing or down. Seems to be more accurate than Reach's radar.
-Radar also shows players outside of range but gives a dot to show the direction that they're in

Will add more as I see it.

Happy with what I see so far but I know that there's a lot more stuff coming.
 
Im excited, but man, we got a ton to go through, and so little at the same time! Anyways, Ill reserve judgement about Amour Perks for a later time, initially it has me excited, but only if done right. That said, we have no idea what they are so we can't really decide what we think yet.

The rest of the marketing campaign for Halo 4 could be MP and I wouldn't complain. SP is lovely and all, but I really don't need to see a minute of it before I dive in. And the MP is ultimately what I'll be playing for months or years. I hope.
