Shinji Mikami talks about Tango and their new game

I'll put this in easier to read bullet list format, though I suggest checking out the link for more:

-Will be released in 2013 or later.
-Tango is currently 65 employees, may get up to 100.
-Mikami expects it to be the largest staff count he has ever worked with on a game.
-Would like to have two teams eventually, with a smaller team making smaller/more experimental projects to help train staff.
-They're using an external engine that they heavily modified. It's probably worth noting that Unreal Engine 3 is the only really major middleware engine with good Japanese support these days, especially for AAA games. Well, there's also Gamebryo, but let's hope not.
-Mikami would like his first game to sell 500K-1 million copies in Japan. For reference, only ten PS3 titles have ever sold over 500K copies in Japan, and only one has sold over a million.
-"Mikami, incidentally, had praise for Skyrim, saying that it stimulated him as a creator. It was the first time he'd found a game interesting in some time."

Edit:

Since several people seemed to have this question, Shinji Mikami is the game's executive producer. Ikumi Nakamura is directing the title.

"Tango is also responsible for localizing ZeniMax's Western games"

This is not in the article.

ZeniMax's localization work is separate from Tango.

Oh, I thought that meant "separate" as in "separate from their game work" instead of "separate from the studio".

My bad.

This game will be fucking amazing. This is Shinji Mikami. There is no room for doubt.

He made Vanquish, so I can always worry about the game being boring.

Yeah, come at me GAF, I know you loved that game.

I forgot he existed. :/

I always thought he worked with huge teams before. That's even crazier looking at his past games....looking forward to seeing what genre this will be in.

Cool. I very much look forward to his next game. I've pretty much enjoyed every Mikami game I've played. It hope Beth keeps Tango well funded.

What could it be? Unreal doesn't have Japanese documentation, does it? Is there any notable Japanese middleware out there?

Atlus and Ignition used Gamebryo for Catherine and El Shaddai respectively. I doubt that it's the engine in use here, but it does have documented JP application.

If he's tackling an RPG, I hope it's the most responsive, insanely good feedback, tightest, most replayable RPG ever made.

C'mon, Mikami, revolutionize another genre. Gaming needs it.

I assume this was coming from the 4Gamer.net interview.

There was a funny little tidbit in there about P.N.03, where Mikami explained that the reason the character shot beams out of her hands is because they didn't have the time and money to model and create animations for a wide variety of guns. They also almost made the character into a simple robot due to similar constraints, but realized that customers wouldn't like playing as a robot, so they changed the playable character into a human.
