The Last Of US infected has arrived - Possibly NSFW

What makes this more interesting the fact that you fight humans mostly.

So when ever you encounter the infected it should be interesting.

Have a fun! Enjoy!

Or maybe you don't encounter them. Like accidentally so. Maybe they came to you when the fight with humans is over (as the trailer would suggest). So you sort need to evacuate silently as they feed or whatever on corpses. Or fight them if you have what it takes (ammo etc).

I'm sure there will be moments like that, but I doubt all encounters will be like it. There should be areas where you encounter them "accidentally" and must kill/avoid them to continue.

Sure, but the fact that you fight humans most of the game I doubt the will show up that way often.

Well, the less you encounter them, the more freakier each encounter would be.

It's like what RE4/5 did wrong, by pouring way too many majin, it made them loose the creepiness and just turned them into normal enemies. The scariest was when you could hear one, but had no idea where it was.

So i take it that these guys can't see due to the fungus thing blocking their eyes. and their nose seems to be ripped apart too. im guessing super hearing?

Yeap. The first trailer/cut-scene suggests that their hearing is good. Maybe the fungi actually improves their hearing considerably. I also think that they have smell, since I doubt they will only react to sounds (Not too sure about this one). Going by the trailer, I would say hearing is their main sense of reaction though.

All speculative anyway. I think.

Pheromones maybe? Not sure how that'd translate into gameplay though

Same reason the first Alien is better than Aliens too.

But yeah, they look freaky enough so if they don't overdo it the game could be pretty creepy.

Sounds plays a important role in the game.

The more I see of enemy designs of this game the less interested I am.

No matter how much people say otherwise they are basically zombies.

Naughty Dog, unleash the gameplay vids!

this, goddamnit, the game has been revealed since last year and we still haven't see gameplay video at all. and it's not like they don't have playable build, they've been showing it to the game press for a while.

I'm starting to get worried that it's all smoke and mirror and unfounded hype by gaming press.

Personally I like the design, and they're not going to be as nasty in the game when you can't see the mould growing on their shoulders. I definitely got some goosebumps/shudders from the nastiness of the busts though. Something about mould/rot grosses me out. I'm excited to see what the gameplay looks like at E3 or whenever they show it.

I think they're trying to avoid what they did with UC3. They showed too much up front for that game. I think I like it this way, then they can blow their wad at E3.

I wonder if we'll see a scene where it show the moment it exploded out.
That would be too much like Resident Evil 4 or The Thing. I think it would be more horrifying if it grows out more gradually, pushing up lumps in the skin before breaking through it and spreading upwards.

I was just thinking about that weird fungus that kills insects and evolves to infect a new species every once in awhile. How it always tends to target the most successful and most populous species....

Fucking creepy, and slightly scary as fuck.

Was actually just talking about Cordyceps Fungus with a co-worker today, and had no idea that it was the premise of The Last of Us.

The more I see of this game the more excited I am. That design is great.

Wow.. that's downright amazing looking. Enemy design is an integral part of immersion. I also see how that documentary of "zombified" insects has inspired the enemy design in The Last of Us. I know Naughty Dog are capable of great things on the PS3, so I'm hoping the monsters look close to that in game.

Are people really still on this garbage?

Who cares what they call them.

Because it's annoying when people make zombie stories, but have some "realistic" excuse at how they are totally not zombies. Because you know, zombies are silly. And the alternative is always "they're infected!"

I'm confused. Are the images in the OP actually based on the nasties from The Last of Us...? Or is this some kind of joke post? People are responding to it like a joke, but I don't see a joke...

A little misleading since the game was announced at the very end of 2011 and we're still in Q1 of 2012. We've known about the game for a little over three months.

Horrible, disgusting design. I love it! At least it veers a little from the tried and true traditional zombie. I can imagine running away from a couple of these things can be pretty tense.

Concept is fantastic, execution is tight. I approve. Nice twist on the usual bullet sponge/standard zombie enemy. Kinda scary apocalypse scenario when you think about it.

It's kind of gross, but I can't really get nauseus about it because I know its video game art. If that were an actual thing then I would probably be pretty freaked out.
