Kid Icarus Uprising |OT| On a Wing and a Prayer

You know how in the "Together" menu, when you get to choose Far Away or Nearby, what are those icons on the top right near the battery icon? Right now I have a blue dual-sword, and 6 green daggers. What do they mean?

Green = Friends playing Kid Icarus: Uprising
Blue = Friends waiting in a lobby for KI:U

I think, anyway.

So I was curious about trying the "no stylus" controls they mention in the training videos -- holding R to move the reticule...

I managed to beat chapter 1 (on difficulty 5) this way without it being a -major- pain, but I can't say it would work well later on... the main problem I had was that this option seems to give you no vertical reticule movement in land missions.

I then tried playing the entire land segment again, in first person mode. It was interesting and weirdly fun, but the boss was a chore as there seems to be no easy way to circle around the boss while in FPS mode...

Playing sans stylus using the default options works better than I thought it would, but it's far from ideal... more relaxing, though... and FPS mode is a fun little diversion! Heh

you can move the cursor vertically by holding down R (or whatever button is mapped to center camera) and moving the analog stick slightly. Pit still walks around slowly, but you can aim in any direction It's easy to overshoot that walking/aiming zone with an analog slider.

first person is neat but it severely reduces your fov. it could be useful in multiplayer if you play long range, and there's an option to zoom in if you hold that view change button down or double tap the screen while standing still.

I was in love with Palutena.
Now i'm in love with
Palutena, Viridi, Palutena, Palutena, Pandora, Hades, Pandora, Palutena.

This game is so moe.

Hmmm.
How many enemies do you have defeated?
66. I've only played 1 match online, the rest with bots.

Edit: Interestingly, I saw in the e-manual that "Having more players involved in a match, or playing with registered friends, will improve the rewards that you can earn at the end of the match"

Has anyone added me? I'm in the doc but there's no way to tell with these things on Nintendo platforms. :p
You mean when the cam comes to close? Cause that's pretty cool.

It's a power in the game. Forgot the specifics but either it makes you invisible and/or it makes shots go through you. I think it's the prior. I know I have it but I don't use it since it doesn't fit with my current setup.

edit: Yup.

Nah, I could totally see the two getting mixed up. But five seconds of invisibility in multiplayer just feels so....powerful
I just have two ways to end a online game. Beeing first with like 1200 points or last with almost zero. I need to train and find my most beloved weapon.

also it's pretty cool that players with giant awesome killer weapons also bear a giant responsiblility for the whole team, cause they can pretty easy kill off the whole team if they suck.

neat system. Needs to be in more games.

To the person who asked what to do when Tempura Wizard shrimp-ifies you: DODGE. He will beat you in a flat-out foot race, but keep alternating run, DODGE, run, DODGE, and you will survive long enough to transform back... Hopefully!

In other news, my head is exploding trying to decide my favorite chapter and boss -- it's ALL awesome! What I love is the game has a definite three-act structure: Act I is the first
nine
chapters and deals with
Medusa's ressurection
; Act II is the next
eight
chapters and deals with
the conflict between gods and them banding together to stop the alien threat
; and Act III is the final
eight
chapters, dealing with
the aftermath three years later of the Chaos Kin's escape, and finally stopping Hades, the god instigating every conflict
. The campaign is like three full games in one, a trilogy of stories onto itself.

It's like Sakurai went ALL-OUT making this as though it were the last Kid Icarus title ever. Hopefully it's not, but damn, compared to classics like Star Fox 64 that survived through the ages on a mere fraction of the content, this game could single-handedly preserve the franchise for generations if need be.

Again, though, I hope we get a sequel. A WiiU title with a Raid-style co-op mode would be delish. Now that the core gameplay is in place, someone else could make the game, with Sakurai supervising as creative consultant and quality control. The game needs to sell well first, though. I wonder how it's doing?

As a lefty, the controls are pretty good, although my left hand started cramping from firing and moving at the same time. My biggest pet peeve is using the stylus to move the camera around in the ground sections. I found that increasing the sensitivity of the reticule in the options helps a lot, but it's still sluggish. Still, Kid Icarus is very enjoyable game thus far.

Im thinking the same.
This game is awesome, and Sakurai and his team created one scale epic for portable, I hope we see a Star Fox, with 64 style, but with this much content, now we know it can be done.

I wish there was a way to map four of your powers to the different directions on the d-pad for quick access at any moment instead of having to cycle through them. I barely every use them because I'm too busy shooting things and trying not to die to think about them.

Yeah. Being able to have more than four powers with the tetris-esque menu is nice and all but I can't help thinking that just mapping four to the d-pad would make them infinitely more useful. I can't look at the bottom screen to see which one I have while I'm getting ganked by enemies.

This is now my most favorite IP for NINTENDO so hope there are plenty more Sakurai can do with so many bosses it does not have to end here I think we got more out of the Kid Icarus universe than we could have hoped for the characters and story are deeper than expected and love that its not taking itself seriously... this is the kind of game I always wanted :) So hopefully Nintendo give him full support to continue

I think they know what they have with this ore we would not have see so many ads

On WiiU the controls should not be a major issue

To be honest, Smash Bros. is wonderful and all, but after seeing what Sakurai did with Uprising, it seems a waste to not have him working on epic story-driven action-adventure games... Maybe there's a way to clone him?!

Just wait until she's a Smash Bros. character and people are pausing to peek up her skirt. ;)

So how exactly do you socre points in multiplayer? Obviously by killing people, but there must be another way to get smaller amount of points.

I don't even know what daybreaks are.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Wow, this is surprisingly fun! It's basically Sin and Punishment with a Kid Icarus theme and that's an awesome thing! Really enjoying it thus far.

I wish this game was more like Sin and Punishment actually. Mostly I find the camera an absolute bear to deal with on land. Circle strafing effectively as well. I just can't seem to keep a target on screen doing so. Constantly swiping to keep the camera framed also leads to your target reticle fucking off target with attempted circle strafes. Drives me crazy against bosses, which the only challenge so far is keeping them framed in action.

Chapter 7 so far, and I barely feel I have -fought- any of them. Just endless panning to keep them on screen while a few charged shots kill them long before I understand or acknowledge any attack they are doing. I am so surprised how uneventful the bosses have been beyond looking big and crazy.

By Chapter 9 or so pretty much all of my issues with the ground camera have vanished, so it seems like I've internalized the controls pretty well.

Just finished chapter 5, wow!

Also I finally adjusted the controls to my liking and raised the intensity. I initially hated using the stand, but after adjusting the controls to my liking, the stand makes things easier and the game is super fun.

Can't wait to get into it more - Also, Nintendo sent out a spotpass weapon (I got a notification), finally seems like the promises of Wii Connect 24 are being realized with the 3DS.

I pre-ordered the game with Amazon UK but did not get any extra AR cards for pre-ordering :(.

Would someone be kind enough to explain what the deal was with these please before I go into nerd rage with Amazon and make a fool of myself because this was limited to certain retailers, or something?

[Apologies if this has been previously discussed but I try to avoid OT's nowadays until I have sampled 99% of the game myself to avoid as many SPOILARZ!!! as possible.]

Thanks :).

Daybreaks are basically Super Smash Bros. Brawl's dragoon parts. Collect 3, get giant laser.

I will pay a hobjillion dollars for a soundtrack release on disc, Nintendo.

Has anyone else watched the Kid Icarus Anime on Nintendo Video? It's so random but I can't help but laugh.

Yeah, it's pretty great.

The Medusa one is great too. But (post chapter 9 spoilers)
Now I want a Hades anime short. Guy is awesome.

Don't think we got that promotion at any stores in the UK (nothing with my The Hut order). We do get the usual 6 pack of cards with the game though, and the priviledge of registering KI for the 250 star points in the UK Club Nintendo and "purchasing" the special 12 pack of AR cards reward though.

Lol. Wait until you play the bosses on a higher difficulty.

Shit. Don't make me dream. I'd love to see a reboot of StarFox by Sakurai.(Or just ignore the story of StarFox Adventures, Star Fox Assault or Star Fox Commando)

Finished
the Alien threat. I never expected that at the beginning.

Multiplayer is epic.

I love watching four people duke it out until they have almost no health and then firing a mega lazer, scoring four defeats in the process.

Also, Claws >>>> Everything.

I don't quite understand right-handed people's complaints about the controls. They're incredibly simple to get the hang of.
