And I'm ok with seeing more digital games if that's what it takes. I am also someone who prefers to see actual physical copies, but if having it digital is the only way it comes out, then I can deal with that.

But if it came out only on Steam, it would really bug me. Because I want to play these games on my handheld. Using a d-pad/analog stick, using buttons and being capable to take the game with me. Not use my keyboard and sit in front of my computer monitor.

If they does start releasing the upcoming LoH games on Steam, please still release them (at least) for download on a handheld, also.

We already know they are getting released over here on iOS & android. That's portable!

20 bucks is about what I'd expect for most retail games turned into dd games.

I'm not paying 30 unless the game is fantastic and 40 is of course right out.

But hey, they want to start off at 18 or 15 or 10? By all means.

Well, you can play them with a controller still. On the go may be a bit harder...

I'm ready for it. Everything except Gust games on Steam. That would probably kill me.

Just gonna point out here that Gust started life, many many moons ago now, as a PC developer.

Let me chime in with a generic response: I don't mind download releases but the prices really need to come down

Sumioni for $20? Come on! I still bought it though, got to show my Vita ENTHUSIASM

It's a full-featured game that sold for full price in Japan, though. Why shouldn't it cost $20?

Confirmation of Atelier PC folks.

But the app stored taught me that they're supposed to be $0.99?!

I think a few people were complaining about Sumioni and content even at the $20 price tag though. Don't know personally, haven't had the time to play it :|

wtf, the voices don't sound like Arc Rise Fantasia's at all. C'mon. They probably sound odd because they're out-of-context. One of the voices did seem to give off the "yesterday is history today; today is tomorrow's history" thing though. :lol

The way people are carrying on in here, I figured it'd be like this stuff.

Might purchase for PSP since it's playable on Vita. Or 3DS. Depends on how big it is since I have spare memory for Vita and PSP, though I'd have to run out and buy a card for 3DS.

Japanese release was 540MB, IIRC.
Ah. Might get it on Vita, then, out of convenience.

What are you talking about?
It has Troy Baker.
Ahahahaha.

am I the only one not bothered by the voice acting? I mean, its not that good but also not that terrible. Its not even on Chaos Wars level and far from it actually.

As for the title being digital only, I dont know if I'll get it on 3DS or PSP, Im bothered by it yes, since I prefer retail releases but the way the industry is right now, guess we just have to suck it up. As long as most titles I want still get a physical retail release I don't mind if a couple is DD only.

Anyway, Is this also the first time the 3DS will get a full retail game on eShop? Can't remember any previous games.

Not too interested in this game. :x But when I do get a Vita I'll probably get it, it honestly doesn't look (or sound) that bad, I just don't play many dungeon crawlers.

I'm not bothered by it in the slightest. I've heard far worse and the premise of the game sounds interesting enough to me that even if I did have a problem I could ignore it in favor of actually playing the game.

The VA delivery feels ... awkward? Hoping it's just because they're out of context. It's not horrible, just ... flat, I guess?

Whatever, I bet I'll spend half the time grinding listening to something else.

People in here made it sound like Chaos Wars when it really wasn't. Chaos Wars VA was abysmal. It isn't even ARF bad either. It seems out-of-context and a smidge flat.

With regards to digital distribution, since the issue's being brought up in here now... I used to have feelings against it, but after a few years, I'm okay with it. If it's the only way I can play a game (which is the most important thing in the end), then I'm fine with DD in that case. I'll have to buy a memory card or an SD card to put games on when I run out of space.

But DD on Steam-only, though... that's something I have a bit of issues with since I only have access to a laptop intended for school/work, so I can't really put Steam on here. But if Trails ends up being put on Steam because the localization company has no choice? I might make an exception. :lol

That voice acting was... voice acting.

Not judging the game by it but maybe they should have just not had it?

The trailer is poorly put together. The voicework most likely sounds totally fine in the game.
Every single one of XSEED's trailers has been terrible, especially their trailers for Falcom's games. They seem to put more people off than they sell.

Yeah, those trailers have been pretty awful.

People think these voices are bad? Get real. Of course clips that are completely out of place will sound weird.

Plus Troy Baker can't be "bad".

Usually not a fan of Wizardry and whatnot, but I like some of the characters and whatnot in this, so I'll see what happens.

Sure he can. If he voices Fang, then his voice acting is not bad, it's worse than bad.

Some of the hyperbole being posted here is kind of incredible. This is nowhere even close to as bad as ARF or Chaos Wars. Not even close.

Game is pretty fun actually. Never beat it, but I had a good time with what I did play.

Huh, didn't know gust used to make PC games.

Well, keep in mind this was about a billion years ago (read: 1993 or so), when they were still a doujin circle. (Yes, Gust worked their way up from almost literally nothing, it's one of the reasons I like them so much.)

Also a bit disappointed to hear there'll be no demo. At the very least I hope systems are well-explained and whatnot. I'm kind of a fan of Wizardry-esque titles (I love the shit out of Etrian for example and this + Etrian + other stuff is likely to tip me over the edge on buying a 3DS) but I'll want to be well-educated before making a purchase on this one.

The voice acting isn't atrocious, but it's definitely not acceptable either. I haven't played Arc Rise Fantasia, but from what I've seen in videos, this doesn't seem to be much better than that.

It's a LOT better than that. You think that's worse than this? Really?

The green haired girl in the trailer is barely above that.

The girl in ARF is horrendous, but the guy is almost on the same level as some of the characters in the trailer for Unchained Blades.

This plus Etrian Odyssey IV, yeauh!

Since owning a 3DS I have have LONG desired a first-person dungeon crawl. I may have over fantasized about how it would look in 3D, but I'm still excited because I'm just a fan of the genre.

Also, big ups to XSEED for trailblazing the digital world again and I'm glad Nintendo is allowing this. I can't imagine that this game would have ever been feasible to release at retail at this point. My money is going directly to support more releases like this. Just think, if the DS had this option, could we have gotten Retro Game Challenge 2? Oh, a girl can dream.

The game isn't going to blow anybody's mind, but it's definitely a fun dungeon crawl. It's a good entry point for people who also want a little bit of story with their gameplay too. Some relatively strong names behind this.

Any idea which version is "definitive"? I'm guessing the 3DS version (I'd imagine the visuals are much cleaner due in part to higher color definition), but I'm curious as to what the differences are.

I saw a Siliconera story that seemed to indicate it was basically just where the map was located (always on the bottom screen for 3DS, optional overlay on the top screen on PSP). The 3D in something like this might make the 3DS win out too, but if they can get it Vita compatible ASAP (and those missing games DO pop back up) I'd be more inclined to get it there.

Nice. Iwata said the 3DS was setup to received download versions of retail games but they hadn't finalize on how they were going to handle it. Glad to see they've seemingly dealt with that. I wonder how big it's going to be. I do wish Nintendo would display how many megs something is instead of just how many blocks it takes up.

But they do. 1 block = 1 Meg. 1 Megabit, that is. Esentially, just divide by 8 to get your Megabytes.

Eusis pretty much nailed it. The 3DS version has the map constantly available on the bottom screen, which is definitely a plus for a game like this.

Whoa wait, is it coming digitally too for the 3DS? The title leads to believe it's DD for PSP. Might get it on the 3DS if true.

What is it with things like this where they have a main character that's supposed to be some kind of creature that you wouldn't expect to be the main character of something, yet they come up with some excuse for him to appear as some generic anime dude?

Here's the already-mentioned Siliconera story with screenshots showing the difference. I'd probably go for the 3DS version, since I like the always-on map that doesn't interfere with the visuals.

There's some crazy exaggeration in this thread. It's not the best voice acting in the world, but it seems fine. Pretty standard stuff.

The bigger issue is how crappy the trailer is. I'd be nice to see some actual gameplay or something!

Hmmm, didn't notice that it seems to either take up the right screen or a large part of the center. Yeah, that WOULD push towards 3DS again. Hope Nintendo has some sort of overhaul in accounts and transfers or something.

It was 21 days, 14 hours, 45 minutes and 24 seconds since I last thought of Retro Game Challenge 2. You broke that. I hope you're happy with yourself :(

Well, it says on the PR itself, bolded even!

Sorry, with Nintendo we need to double take to make sure. Great news indeed and I'll most likely buy this unlikely a retail release.

I have a fool's hope that what they're doing with Wii U accounts will be applied to a future 3DS firmware update.

Me too. Until then, I'll keep copies of my 3DS S/N and proof of purchase documents handy, because if anything happens with my 3DS I will pester Nintendo's support line to get my stuff transferred to a new unit with all my might.

The only reason I have any hope is because they announced the account things with that whole Nintendo Network thing, which they have no problem slapping the logo of on 3DS games. Seems to imply they want to move in a unified direction there.
