Halo |OT3| Remember Reach?

I don't know if someone noticed it earlier, but I think that Rooster Teeth is is doing some parts of the Spartan Ops story (voiceover maybe).
It's suggested in the SparkCast somwhere around 37:30.

Is that pic from PAX Prime? There was a girl there with that same color armor and a Recon (I think) helmet. It was seriously impressive suit for home made stuff...I thought it was better than the guy who won the contest.
Have you seen the winner in first hand? It was pretty impressive. It looked like a costume from a Live action ad.

I definitely have to try out MLG. I am only playing super slayer.

Don't know if it's been posted but these are the first details of Glasslands sequel, The Thursday War :

Tor Books has just announced the title and release date for the second novel in the Karen Traviss’s “Kilo-Five Trilogy” of Halo books, the follow-up to last October’s Halo: Glasslands. Halo: The Thursday War will release on October 2, 2012.

Halo: The Thursday War picks up immediately where Halo: Glasslands left off, with forces on Earth and among the Covenant threatening a peace that is precarious at best. With a splinter group among the Sangheili pushing for war, some human colonies rebel against earth authority; and as ONI policy continues to shift with the volatile situation in space, the discovery of a trove of Forerunner technology on Onyx provokes leaders on Earth to seek uses for it in the conflict. For the fight is far from over….

“I wanted to focus on what it feels like to operate in a fragile ceasefire that’s turning into a mass of small, unpredictable wars where the enemy is much harder to spot and define,” says author Karen Traviss. “It’s not about big set piece space battles, superheroes, and hardware; this is a messy conflict seen at close quarters by real people with their own problems, whether those people are human, alien, or artificial intelligences.”

“From the very first page, The Thursday War propels you into a universe on the brink of chaos,” says Frank O’Connor, Franchise Development Director, 343 Industries. “It will immerse you immediately and enthrallingly into the events and circumstances that will come to define the state of the Halo universe in Halo 4. I can’t wait for fans and newcomers alike to experience the sequel to Glasslands.”

Methink "artificial intelligences" opens up possibilities.
It seems the bombing at the end of Glasslands is not a big Forerunner attack as it would propel the story into supergalactic battles pretty quickly?! maybe Forerunner AIs are responsible?

I always thought it was the installation reacting to the human (Reclaimer) presence.

that a Sangheili planet full of Forerunner relics reacts to the presence of Reclaimers (as they first set foot around these parts of the Universe) makes sense ; it could possibly unleash laser beaming sentinels.
I sort of like the idea that Forerunner tech and not Forerunners is a threat to humans.
It gives the course to using Forerunner tech a double edged sword quality (Humans need it to control other races, yet it comes at the price of coming into contact with AI that both seek you as Reclaimer yet have their own forerunnery agenda, ala GS343 both helping and attacking you in Halo, whereas Forerunners antagonism could be more sublte.
Curious and eager to discover what will be of the Chief-Didact relationship if it comes to be.

In other news Trials Evolution is out right now!

Non stop spendings on XBLA these days (Alan Wake, Fez, Still Alive and a shit ton of DLCs->CrAckCPOM), yet Trials is required buy.

I have been very skeptical if not rude about Halo 4, but this clip is really good. I like how high players jump, the visual feedback (sparks! brilliant), the almost non-existant aim assist/magnetism/whatever, the strafing speed.
Whenever he kills the player and jumps across the platform, the jump seems pretty smooth. Not too heavy, nor too floaty. I guess it, like everything else, is just something we'll have to play with to get a better feeling. But what I've seen so far regarding the mobility/jump is good. Too bad the overall base is still slow, but whatever.

Conan's video is blocked outside of the US, or at least in Portugal

Does anyone have any other source?

Ya some or their videos are only unlocked after a couple days. Its happened before for me in Canada.

I was gonna watch it later today so hopefully its available then! :)

Edit: Figures it would be on Youtube already!

Please don't have killing spree and headshot pop up in the middle of the screen. Please.

.

Laughed at a lot of that Conan segment. The base gameplay in Halo 4 looks so great; it's one of the reasons I've been lamenting the reintroduction of AA's so hard, it looks like it doesn't need them. Maybe 343 can really show me something on that front and I'll change my mind in due course.

It's funny, everything I've seen and heard direct from the game is excellent. The BR gameplay, the graphics and the music. Perhaps I should 'just trust them'.

Havent caught up on everything yet. Someone drove their minivan into the local transformer and we are on our ninth hour without power. posting via the kindle. ths is actually somewat usuable.

Yeah, i could see the RvB guys in there. Weren't they in Halo 3 also?

Yes. In Crow's Nest, when you're on your way to the hangar bay for the first time, take a right instead of going at the point where the Warthog is destroyed.

So were the spoilers given in the Conan video actual spoilers? I don't see why Frankie would spoil the ending. :/

Frankie said already that there were no spoilers

Notes from u4ix.

-Slow down mechanic if getting shot, can't run up and double melee

Also that Conan vid was amazing, but my gaze was fixed on that stain on Frankie's shirt for most of it........

How anyone can find those two funny is beyond me, seriously. It's like child humour. I wanted Frankie to stand up and head butt Conan for the entire nine minutes, and I'm usually a pretty chilled guy. The thing is, we all know Frank's funnier and wittier than this guy, but he couldn't get a word in edge ways because he kept making silly noises.

Gameplay looked swell though, particularly the movement speed. Understandable about the muting of the BR, thought it sounded a little muffled.

Frank, this is something that hasn't been touched on yet, surprisingly, but is the BR four-shottable?

I have to agree lol, Frankie looked like he just had to sit there and nod while Conan played comedian.

Gameplay in terms of movement looks good, not sure what I think of the gunplay, that clip must have made it look so bad because it was someone poor doing the shooting. I have high hopes it will be amazing when good players get to play though. What do people think the shots to kill are based on that short vid?

Im not sure I like the square scope for the BR but thats just nitpicking. I would watch the video so I can hear and count the shots but Conans screaming is more annoying than the 12 year olds over xbl.

Liked what I saw in that very small clip, except the text notifications "killstreak" and "headshot". I hope there is an option to disable or at least moved to a part of the screen where it isn't obstructing your view.

Plausible 'Assault Carbine'-like weapons, in order of likeliness (imo):
  • SMG
  • Needle Rifle
  • Carbine (Covenant)
  • Plasma Rifle

Also, DMR bloom was confirmed, right?

While the GIF is good... remember, we got all the COD stuff still to come. They showed two dudes BRing each other. Nothing else.

That was like our final meal before the execution.

It's nonexistence was confirmed, yeah. The DMR is rate of fire capped, much slower than spam speed in reach, and no bloom.

Haha I love Conan. I was laughing through a good chunk of the video. Although i can understand if Frankie and Kiki were having trouble reciprocating Conan's enthusiasm. Conan is really obnoxious, and they were probably wanting to discuss a little more about the game instead of joking around.

Anyhow -Maps can support any gametype, but each map is tailored to a certain gametype

probably my favorite part of the sparkcast. Maps should automatically be improved over Reach for that reason alone. But the inclusion of the jetpack is still going to ruin any kind of map flow that a designer can try and implement.

Simply designing the maps FOR competitive, not ripping them out of the Campaign says that the maps will be improved.

Loving the look of Wraparound (has it been renamed, like Warhouse?).

The one thing I don't like about the clip is the central screen notifications. Killing Spree, ok. But headshot? Really?
I can just imagine a game of SWAT, rack up 4 headshots, double kill, triple kill, overkill, extermination, and a killing spree (assuming of course you already had a kill), that makes 9 notifications. At the buffer rate from the gameplay clip, those notifications will be on your screen for about 36 seconds...

edit:
I interpreted "certain gametype" as one game-type that they haven't reveled yet. Did I interpret incorrectly?

What a really great drop! So far I've been getting pretty excited with the stuff I've been hearing. That Conan video was hilarious!

Can't help but really laugh at the people who are facepalming about the weapon drops being able to kill you. Did you not hear how stupid you'd have to be to get caught under one of those? :lol

Yea, we still have yet to learn about what the rocket pistol thing is, if it's a new weapon or a weapon attachment.

But I will say these settings look really good

In Reach's defence, I'm pretty sure Bungie always stated that the multiplayer spaces were designed specifically as multiplayer spaces, then put into campaign. In a BTS Frankie makes a point of saying that the multiplayer spaces in Halo 4 aren't from the campaign, but I'm pretty sure that he did so to stress the increase in map variety rather than anything else.

Either way, the map was designed to accommodate both MP and campaign. I remember when the Noble Map Pack came out and one of Tempest's designers said it felt so great to make an MP map without having to worry about campaign.

That sucks.

I had an unexpected rendez-vous with a plumber around 11PM, it brought my Witcher 2 gaming to a halt and made for an unpleasant water draining night...

What are you talking about? There's no "COD stuff" except the dumb kill notifications. I don't want to be getting 12 kills and 12 headshots and to see that headshot notification 12 times a game. For milestones such as a Killing Spree, Frenzy, Rampage etc. it's fine. For anything more regular, especially melee kills, it'll get obnoxious pretty quickly.

Trials Evolution can keep me busy in the meantime! Any HaloGaffers wanna add me, the GT is; Hydranockz

It's a trap!

Looks like you double melee'd the wrong person too many times in 'that' battle canyon game!

I'm looking forward to the anti-Myyke effect.

Microsoft is feeding Frankie well.

Yeah, I'm also curious how they're going about designing and creating competitive maps. We've seen too many "slayer" maps in these recent Halo MP games, and not many were so good in both slayer based and objectives.

I'm hoping this means a return to glorious Halo 2 style map design and gametype combo's, and not the other end of the spectrum aka invasion. *shudders*.

Gabo is reading this.

That podcast really did clear up almost all the issues for me, combined with the gameplay clip of course.
I am really excited to learn the rest of the new stuff at E3.
November 6 release date though? I so needed a september one!
The game better be hella polished!

I'd bet that the text pop ups are only until a certain level or a certain amount of times of getting that medal.

I'm not meaning to compare this game to COD anymore..
But I couldn't help but to think of "Challenges" when they were talking about their rewards for trying other experiences in the game.
Which honestly to me is exciting, if you're going to add progression/grinding, and least challenges add some challenge to it.
And if not adding challenge, at least they offer some accomplishment during long grind sessions.

Like right now in Reach I'm having trouble getting past Noble since I almost have all the armor.
Nothing to reward me so I just play to have fun.
Which makes me play a lot less since, well, it's reach.
