Dan Henderson, Alexander Gustaffason, Phil Davis then the rematches with those guys I think.....I think Dana wants Jones at light HW.

Gus and Davis are too green, especially Davis, who isn't even close to a title shot. Neither have proven they're any better than the guys Jones has already beat, that's the problem.

I would like to see him get JDS for the HW title by the end of the year if he beats Hendo.

Finally someone with a fight IQ higher than 20. What we witnessed was the mma equivalent of a chess match while Jones vs. Shogun/Rampage/Machida were all closer to checkers. Not only were these two fighters extremely talented and intelligent but they trained together. They both have an intimate knowledge of each others strengths and weaknesses.

This was the most strategic fight of the night, and Jones still made it look easy. Only a really trained eye for mma could see how technical and entertaining that fight really was. They both had the tools, talent and fight IQ to brutally punish one another from the smallest of mistakes.

Brendan Schaub's fight should be a testament to how easily one can lose a fight, when one throws caution to the wind and tries to finish, but your opponent is still extremely dangerous. That could have happened at any time to Jones or Evans. They both fought very smart.

Jones will lose at HW. If you guys would actual watch him fight and take your nose out of his ass you would notice how he hides behind his reach and that stupid fancy BS that is going to get him knocked out against a HW. JDS isn't going to be afraid of him. Reem would also crush him.

JBJ got Jackson'd. Hard to spend so much time at that camp w/out his ways safe creeping into your system. He also ruined former killers named Georges and Carlos.

I didn't say he would win at HW, I said he would move there, so kindly shut the fuck up with that 'nose in ass' shit.

Hendo is the only hope to stop Jones.

disagree. Rashad, Machida or Silva are the guys with the best chance. The best matchup would be a high level kickboxer that could pressure Jones and catch him when he makes a mistake. Hari with good grappling is the type of fighter that could take Jones.

anyone who can avoid take-downs is a good match-up for Bones. his striking is effective because of his range, but it's not the best part of his game.

You like me, you really really like me!
I feel bad for Hendo. He's going to get the biggest beatdown of his life.

Jones is going to pick him apart on the feet then ragdoll him to the mat and hellbow him into Bolivian.

Bones by TKO round 3.

Hail to the KING baby
Jones beating ass again, GAF still crying and grasping at straws. Can't wait to see the unwarranted hype Hendo gets. Please GAF as I always beg of you post your Jones-to-lose bets. I don't care how decent Hendo has been on Chaelroids this is still a guy who got tooled by fucking Jake Shields.

no astrolad-ing in mma-gaf. I'd say 99% of us picked JJ.

Jake Shields will move up to light heavyweight and destroy Jon Elbownes Jones after he's done with Hendo.

Jones is tall, has a reach advantage and good power. So because of the things I listed guys are reluctant to put constant pressure on him. Guys just stay in Jones' pocket which is the outside for them. You have to get in on Jones, maintain head movement and go after his body.

I enjoyed all of the fights except for the last. I guess I'm just not MMA hardcore enough.

First of all, I don't think it was a good idea for the UFC to up-sell the fight as some kind of epic grudge match. They built up this fight up into something monumental and it didn't deliver. When you have Rashad stating that he's dreaming of punching Jones in the head but then never really punches him at all, you have an over-sold fight.

Rashad never truly committed. He was going to have to try and get inside in order to score points and he never committed to do so. There was a lot of handholding going on between the two of them. Yes they're both very skilled but it looked like an exhibition. They were committing to big moves and takedowns when there were only a few seconds on the clock, which looked like a cynical way to add some excitement and maybe a cheap single point because those moves would never amount to anything.

Every so often you see UFC fights like this: main events built up sky high, usually with an older fighter involved. Always looks like social security to me. Rashad talked a big fight but he went at it like he was shoring up his retirement savings.

That's how I call it anyway. Every other match was great and the fighters gave it their all. It made the Evans-Jones fight all the more suspect by comparison.

5 rounds fights are usually slower paced than normal rounds. Fighters conserve their energy in addition to fighting more defensively.

Believe Jones has stated he likes to try big moves at the end of rounds because you don't get punished when it doesn't work out. It also gives the other fighter something to worry about for the rest of the fight.

I agree however that Rashad never fully committed. He was clearly losing the fight yet wouldn't push the fight in the later rounds. It appeared Jones didn't want to KO Evans yet was still being active enough for everyone to to know he was easily controlling the fight.

He does. He still hasn't improved the way his hand drops after a jab. Look back I have been complaining about it since before he got anywhere close to being somebody. It bothers me. Jackson doesn't seem to care either and just uses game plans set up around his size. It's the reason Rashad was able to tag him a few times too. He still has the same nasty habits I have been calling out since I started posting on Gaf. Those habits are going to get him in a lot of trouble if he moves up to HW.

and for the guy saying this fight was technical. Shogun/Machida was a technical striking match. This was two dudes that still give a shit about each other fighting. The head kick Rashad hit in the first left Bones rocked (Jones admitted it) and Rashad held back. Jones rocked Shad and just stopped pursuing. Fuck grudge matches. They always suck.

I don't wanna see Jones at HW until he fights Silva. I love the fights where he has such a big size advantage because it will make his first lose 10X more epic. But yeah, Davis and Gus have nothing for Jones. If he gets past Hendo than we need for Anderson to step up. Jones would gets smashed by HW's easy.

I'd love to see a Sonnen JBJ fight just because Sonnen is hilarious and a boss.
If any 185er could move up to 205 and even fathom hanging with JBJ in the standup dept it'd be Andy, but I still see JBJ's reach advantage giving Silva lots of problems.

If any 185er could move up to 205 and have even a slim chance of putting JBJ on his back with a power double it'd be Sonnen. But Sonnen would get choked the fuck out before he even had the opportunity IMO.

Everyone is so cautious in front of JBJ. Maybe it's worth sacrificing a few limbs but going all medieval on his body. CQC style. Absolutely no point in staying far. They should stick to his body like a leech.

That's why Sonnen JBJ would be funny. U so cray Sonnen!

Everyone that's saying JBJ won't have a reach advantage when he moves up to HW is crazy. He has a longer reach than every fighter in the HW division.

However, Rashad has shown that JBJ CAN be hit with an overhand right (I believe that's what he grazed him with). If JDS or Alistair land flush, it's lights out for JBJ.

That's because his clinch is scary. Stay far and get picked apart with kicks and "sneaky elbows." Close the distance and get ragdolled, ground and pounded and cut up with elbows. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Why do people hate Bones? I've been a fan since I saw his first fight, and everyone else was a fan too.

Also, what makes people think he should be fighting at HW? He barely even looks like he should be fighting at 205 and that's something a lot of people said pre-title. Reach isn't the only thing that makes him win and if you think it does, I can't help but think you're just a casual MMA fan that doesn't actually understand the sport.

Funny though how everyone comments about his reach being an unfair advantage and how it's his key to success and yet when his opponents talk about what gave them trouble, it's usually everything BUT reach.

IIRC Rashad said his biggest problem was he kept underestimating Jones. In the 2nd or 3rd round when they kept holding each others hands, he said he knew Jones was looking for the elbow but tried to time it to counter with a takedown.

Stephan Bonnar has an 80 inch reach. It helps but it isn't the be all, end all. Jones has plenty of skills to go along with his reach.

Every fucking fighter he has fought has said his reach was the reason they couldn't get inside. Rashad said it at the presser.

Also, I'm not going to even touch that casual BS.

Because Shogun and Machida were two fan favorites and Bones destroyed them.

I do not think that is it at all.
He is Dana's golden boy right now and there is not even a hit of subtlety about it.
He is a great talent but he comes off as phoney and insincere in interviews but hey when you can beat ass more power to you.
But that is why people do not like him.
I think more people like him than Shad though. lol

Yeah his elbows are deadly but I'd still rather take on these elbows and try surviving them and landings hits than staying far and doing absolutely nothing.

Though Rashad did good I think. He's one of those that did the best against JBJ

It's reach + athleticism. C'mon people. Bonnar is a can, that's a shitty example. If Rashad was 6'4" with an 84" reach, you don't think the fight would've gone differently? I want some of the stuff you're smoking.

edit: plus, Bonnar has no wrestling.

Every great MMA fighters (or athlete in general) has some sort of natural advantage. If Rashad had Hendo's natural punching power, maybe the fight would have gone differently too. People seem to use it as a knock on Bones.
