Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

Its interesting that they reiterated comments about big 3rd party support as well as high quality software coming at E3. Considering how well they followed through with their DD promises, I have high hopes about the other promises they have made over the last 2 investor meetings.

2 weeks apparently.

I have to wait until the end of July to go to the Symphony :/

Damn. I bought tickets in January, so the wait has seemed like forever. One way to look at it though is that you will have something to look froward to in July that will pass away time until the Wii-U release. July is slow month for me besides college classes....

Ah. Well that's good then.
He'll be playing the games without 'owning' them (and profiteering from the license to play them) so it's a dodgy thing to do and it's still piracy, but I wouldn't have thought his actions would be permaban worthy in the way that downloading a new game is. He still contributed to the sales of those games at launch, when the sales matter most to the publisher. By this stage most Wii games are only being traded on the used game market.

No that was Battle Mii. Chase Mii was the other one with 4 people running after the one with the tablet controller.

That's right. They should combine them, polish it, pre-install it on the system, and there you have a decent pack-in game.

To be precise, they said Wii Sports equivalent - ie. a game packed in with the system that showcases what it can do. That does not necessitate that it be sports based at all.

You are forgetting that this meeting took place in Japan where Wii Sports wasn't packed in. We will have to wait for the official transcript to see if he was talking about the western market, but right now it seems to be a bit of stretch to say he was mainly referring to a pack-in game.

I think it was more along the lines of compelling software that shows the systems capabilities off well and becomes a huge system seller/Evergreen title.

It wouldn't make sense for it to be sports based. A tablet controller does not lend itself to sports games at all.
Last E3 they showcased exactly two sports minigames for the tablet, and both were simple expansions to original Wii Sports games.
From the way Iwata worded his statement, I would think that their answer isn't simply 'standard minigame collection', nor is it something we've seen yet. I suppose 'Chase Mii' and 'Battle Mii' will be a part of a separate 'Wii Play U' collection.

I still believe we will get a new Wii Sports. I mean it would be crazy not too, and two examples shown were very compelling worthwhile updates to the sports.

Probably one of my most look-froward to Wii-U titles honestly.

So, no news again I take i...................... wait, we GOT NEWS?! HOLY SHIT!!! AND IT'S AWESOME NEWS TOO!

I think the redeem code cards from retailers is an interesting model, because it gives retailers a lot of options. They can discount them, for one, and more importantly, Nintendo would probably charge them nothing to RETURN THEM, since there's barely any manufacturing investment to consider.
That opens the possibility that more retailers will be willing to sell niche titles again (albeit in download code form) because they take up less retail space and are less of a risk. It's PERFECT, get niche games back on retail shelves like they were when I was younger!!!

There are a bunch of ideas they could use. For example, skydiving where the TV screen gives you a third person view and the DRC shows a view of the ground so you can move yourself over to the landing position. The thing is that most of the games will be expansions on what you can do with the Wii Remote.
I don't doubt that they'll release a Wii Sports game for the system, but the pack-in (or launch mini-game collection if they don't go with that strategy) has to sell the unique functionality of the controller like Wii Sports did for the Wii Remote.

Speaking of direct downloads, what was the last news we heard regarding storage?
Last E3. USB 2.0 hard drives and SD cards supported. The 8GB flash thing goes back even further.

Oh my. I'm working on homework for IdeaMan and GameplayWhore - a proposal for a game that makes unique use of the uPad - and skydiving would be a fantastic element. Wow.

Maybe I could have one aspect of the game where the protagonist has to skydive off of a zepplin? YES!

Here's an idea: a fast paced 3rd person deathmatch game where all combatants are on rollerskates. Lots of melee weapons and some ranged ones with limited ammo scattered around the arenas. Think very big, very vertical stages with lots of hills and jumps scattered around. Getting air is encouraged so that you can grab powerups, reach higher levels, etc. Whenever you are soaring through the air, you can look down on the uPad and see a view of the ground directly below you, with a target right in the middle of it. If you get the timing just right you can activate a ground pound/dive bomb type attack and land right on top of one of your hapless opponents. If you miss, you take big damage from the fall.

Of course, you need to divide your attention and focus on what's happening on the main screen as well. You could spend too much time doing this and miss out on somebody coming from before you and striking you in mid air.

my guess for the launch lineup:

wii sports-like thing (not wii sports, but more like a u paint or advanced flipnote studio)
pikmin 3
lego city stories
ghost reconline
new super mario bros. mii
assassin's creed 3
rayman origins 2
riven: the sequel to myst
batman: arkham city gotye
darksiders ii
the legend of zelda: skyward sword: good controls edition
go
call of duty: modern warfare 3
pandora's tower
pokemon red and blue 2
hyperdimension neptunia mk2

What the fuck? Did I miss this announcement or are you just talking out of your ass? :p

Hopefully this means an option to use an internal hard drive. I'm not thrilled on using an external one, especially if it's USB 2.0.

If games can be upwards of 25 GB I can see wanting a HDD for sure though and I'd strongly prefer to not have to deal with the extra clutter.

*continues to pray for GTAV*

If Nintendo knows what's right for the Wii U they will have spoken to 2K and R* about bringing the franchise over. There's no reason that it shouldn't be on the Wii U. Personally I'm not a big of GTA after IV, but I would love to see this title on the Wii U.

That sounds sick. It could one hell of a deathmatch/racing game, something that I friggin' love.

Thanks! Honestly, I would love it if Nintendo made something like that their answer to the popularity of the online deathmatch game. Something that isn't just another shooter, but has really quirky mechanics and presentation. While I appreciate that Nintendo's answer to this has so far been to place a big focus on local multiplayer modes that are being ignored on other platforms as a result, striking a balance on Wii U would be nice.

I really don't think people should be expecting this at launch.

007 Legends
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
I really hope Treyarch and Eurocom port over their customisable Wii remote + nunchuk control schemes from Black Ops and Goldeneye to the sequels on Wii U. Adding a Wii control scheme option should be really simple for them, and it will be a bad sign if they ignore it.

Any PS Move supporting games that are getting a Wii U version (like Star Trek) really should support a Wii remote and nunchuk set-up as well.

Could Wii U's launch be the first Nintendo launch in ages to have a healthy dose of awesome titles like the Dreamcast launch had?

There is so much misinformation bouncing around the heads of the average gaffer. So many people are unaware that nintendo has already talked about account systems, the support for harddrives, etc. Of course it's outlandish to expect everyone to keep up on every bit of nintendo news. Nintendo has a big job ahead of them though getting the word out.

That's what E3 is for, but I doubt that will answer all questions.

I said this in regards to something else, but it's applicable for a lot of situations.

Right now I'm most interested about Nintendo's next "WiiSports". Knowing them it could be absolutely anything.

It'll be a compilation including Chase Mii and Battle Mii. That's been my guess for a while now. Should be called U Play, but probably won't be.

I can see games using the Wii U tablet on the living room coffee table to create board game like experiences becoming a pretty big deal. Imagine pictionary.

I've thought some more on this proposal, and love it even more. The "big air" aspect reminds me of ExciteTruck, while the road/racing combat element reminds me of SpyHunter and RoadBlasters. Nail the online and local multiplayer aspects, polish the production values, get really creative with the power-ups and items in the game, and provide a good variety of tracks and landscapes, and this kind of game could rival F-Zero for my chosen racing game of the generation.

Heck, it's not that often that we get to see a game set on rollerskates, hehe..

I'll even start off on the first power-up item: the Flying Squirrel Suit. Since getting big air for an attack vantage is so important, being able to stay aloft even longer is very important. This suit would increase the player's airtime by a certain percentage, dependant-upon how fast the player is going when he/she takes flight.

10flying.xlarge1.jpg

There would be a few disadvantages to the suit, however! Firstly, your character would sustain more damage from attacks while wearing this, since the suit isn't very good at defense. And secondly, it takes several seconds to put the suit on, which means that you can't use items or maintain flight during this "outfit changing" time period. Indeed, while one is more vulnerable while donning or wearing the suit, one's attacks may be more effective or numerous.. so this would be a great suit for offensive-minded players. Or for when the track landscape makes airtime a large advantage.

Yes.. we could have some real fun creating this game, hehe!
