Not to hurt anyone's feelings but how awesome would it be if Capcom decided to can Mega Man Legends 3 on the 3DS for a Wii U version?
Really doubt it but it would be awesome :(
The game would be better served on a handheld with a more modest budget, so in the event it doesn't sell well, it can still be profitable.

I thought this was gonna happen soon as they announced NFC. Working at GS this would make things like Pokemon character download events infinitely easier, as well as other free Nintendo DLC. I also thought it would serve as a poke'dex, for whatever Wii U Pokemon title they release, so if you went to a friend's house (or a Tournament - do people still have pokemon tourneys?) you just carry your NFC device and you have total access. being packed in with the system never cross my mind.... but well see.

u think they would try to incorporate the 3DS for that feature especially since both are gonna be on NiN. but i guess they don't want to obligate people to get a 3DS. but to me it would great incentive to GET a 3DS. (of course i want one regardless)

This is why i've waited for some precisions that didn't come, after hearing this rumor. The use of streetpass on Wii U thanks to its connectivity with the 3DS that will transfer the data once back home was obvious, but a pocket device, surely shipped with the system, is different.

I imagined this a while back and thought it would make for the most hilariously awesome thing ever, but I would NEVER put stock into something like this happening. As it stands I feel like there's a stronger possibility for a simultaneous release of a new StarTropics, Jet Set Radio and Zone of The Enders than there is of Capcom deeming the Legends series worth a second chance. :(

Why would you even need a pocket device for Wii U Streetpass features? Just develop a multiplat app that anyone can install on their smartphone.

Pachter just says whatever will give him news headlines lol.

Although I think criticism of Nintendo is good once in a while. It helps keep Nintendo from giving us another E3 2008.

After nintendo didn't go with his wii HD idea, I don't think there's any way possible nintendo could have gotten him to praise the Wii's successor. No way no how.

But now watch, if Wii U makes a huge splash at E3, he'll do a complete 180, saying he was working off of incomplete information when he made is earlier judgement calls. Well no shit sherlock, that's what makes him a complete tool.

This year is the safest in a while to expect a great conference. I also think they've learned their lesson at 2008 and we won't see anything on that ridiculous level of disappointment and atrocity again in the near future.

Kind of sad that Capcom is doing this. I haven't followed Mega Man Legends 3, but did they ever state as to why canceled the title? First thing that came to my mind was they might be moving it to another platform.

I wonder how Ubisoft feels about sharing it's 3rd party space with other developers. They dominated the Wii, and I have to wonder if they are going to try harder on Wii U just to keep their crown. But all the old EA talk makes me wonder what is going on behind the scenes.

This might be the first e3 that is 3rd party heavy for Nintendo.
Who am I kidding, Mario, Pokemon, Weegee!

Well now that they're going to have competition other than Nintendo, they're going to have to push a lot of content on the Wii U. They are taking that initiative with AC3, Killer Freaks, Rayman and whatever else they have planned for the console.

No reason not to do both. While Nintendo putting its games on smartphones is a dumb idea, there's no reason it shouldn't put supplemental stuff like the eShop and this streetpass thing on phones.
Exactly. I'd prefer to use an app on my phone (its almost always on me) and let my kids use the pocket device. Multiple accounts will likely require more than just the one device included in the box anyway right?

That rumor seems kind of unlikely considering the intent behind friend-codes to make it extremely difficult for kids to meet strangers. Now it'll be something you use on the street?

Maybe Nintendo has eased off of that philosophy though, so I'm hopeful it's true. Would be really cool.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.

WiiU coming with handcuffs confirmed.

Apropos, 3ds' StreetPass has jack to do with NFC. And generally, implementing something like SteetPass via something like NFC defeats the entire idea.

Edit: I've heard this rumor before. Not the pocket device, but that the Wii U could feature StreetPass. But i thought it was just a cross-feature thanks to 3DS and waited for some precisions since months. Well, if this rumor is true, i understand more now. I think it's a clever idea.

This device, will it be included in the box? Will it increase the price of the WiiU?

And, because it has a screen, will game journalists make the mistake of assuming its the WiiU controller?

Streetpass? Isn't it basically the same concept?

No. It'll be much much smaller. And it wouldn't increase the price much.

It's the exact same concept.
You tie the device to your system/account, and then it just gathers information from other devices (very little, like games they've played, how many people they have met, username, ect).

Do many phones have NFC capabilities? I know there is an Android phone with it, but I didn't think it was that popular yet.
I don't think its very widespread yet. Maybe one's phone could be synced via Bluetooth like a headset; possibly through a dedicated app (channel?) on the consoles home screen to speed up the sync process.

Sigh it could be just a mobile app.

That really depends. I have an Android phone, but I'm constantly fighting with it to keep my recently used apps (mostly reading this thread in Opera) from closing due to low memory then reloading (often while totally losing the page if I'm out of range of a Wi-fi access point). I don't know if I want Yet Another Background Service running all the time, making this happen more often.

On the other hand, I understand not wanting to have to buy cargo pants to carry all your crap. ;)

In Japan they crazy for it

So we will probably see it in a couple of years then.

I don't really know the range of NFC (I thought it was similar tech to RFID), but if it(Wii U streetpass) works by some sort of wireless then there is no reason not to make an app for it.

What would be better is if this device could link to your 3DS and Wii U.
Then you could just carry it around and gather data for both.
But, I doubt that'll happen.

No he does not.

He's just a tard bitter at Nintendo because none of his predictions about their future turned true, so now he's just spreading FUD hoping something will stick into the collective mind. How people still give him some credibility is completely out of my understanding.

If the protocol for the DRC streaming is just some software (or minor hardware) on top of an already established variant of Wi-fi, then it's not altogether impossible to incorporate that and NFC and cross-platform StreetPass onto the next iteration of the 3DS. If either the 3DS or the Wii U takes off in the US, then Nintendo will be in a pretty strong position to use one to help out the other (much more so than when they tried to do it with GC+GBA connectivity).

Not necessarily... I mean, if there are multiple accounts on the same Wii U
and you're planning to go out, you could always log in on the device and let it do its own thing
then when you're back, let it download all the data it collected and then just log out.

The same applies to all the accounts...

At least that's how I see it lol

Log into Wii U.
Scan device.
Device is now set to that account.

Rinse. Repeat.

The pocket device sounds kinda not necessary, people carry tablets and notebooks all the time, it could be more convenient carry the same Wii U controller, it has NFC capabilities so it´s usefull to buy your game at retailer with it. Interaction with other Wii U controllers, and free marketing exposure for the product.

That would be awesome. I never carry around my 3DS. Something like this,

250px-Pokewalker.png

on the other hand, I'd have on me at all times.

The problem here is that the controller has no capabilities on its own. While a small device would have some.
Is your sarcasm meter broken?

In this thread, it's impossible to tell.

No point in carrying around that Wii-U controller as it serves no other purpose, it is not an independant portable gaming device... carrying it JUST TO GET streetpass NFC is crazy
