Sony introduces "Smart As...." for PSVita

There are countless Brain Training knock-offs on iOS etc. I don't know what they want to achieve with this, looks simple standard fare.

Just another example of a Junior member's "contribution".
Wow someone is salty :lol.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Let's see the product before we vaporize it, GAF.

A lot of people here feel that their favorite publishers "owe them," and whenever a game is announced that targets a different audience, it's consistently met with disappointment and hostility.

It's an extreme lack of foresight, and people would rather cry foul than understand that broadly-appealing software is designed to bring in steady cash flow to help fund bigger budget projects, and increase the usage of new functions of hardware (i.e. Augmented Reality, or rear-based touchscreens).

A lot of people don't understand what it means to 'create a market' and support that market, either. Brain Age wasn't just a game - it created an entire segment of users who consume that type of content. Seeing another publisher create this content is not a 'me too' strategy as much as it is a recognition of an established segment and creating product to fill that demand. The audience creates these products as much as the developers. There's really no reason to get angry; some of these ideas sound interesting, and if anything, will get secondary users (parents, siblings) to pick up the Vita in the house and check out new features exclusive to the handheld.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Yep. I can't complain.
I bought a DS originally because of Brain Age.
But of course, Smart Phones didn't exist then.

So, are we going to have the doom and gloom people and the Nintendo addicts invading the Sony PS Vita announcements every single time?

From the comments it doesn't seem to be free.

Meh.

Sony got a plan right? Right?

Also, you're getting really annoying and obvious.

Probably better to compare them with facebook apps that already do something similar. Nintendo is still apparently allergic to online, though, so Brain Age comments are always funny.

Whatever would we do if Nintendo hadn't singlehandedly invented puzzle games eh?

Sony, a main competitor to Nintendo, announces a "brain-training" (term used in the press release) puzzle game for their handheld device.

Years ago, Nintendo released "Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training" for the DS, which is what helped the device explode into popularity

I think there's a difference between Sony attempting a hilariously pathetic attempt to try and capture that success in a VERY different market years later, then anyone claiming Nintendo invented puzzle games.

Yay! Brain Age for hardcore gamers! That was the only thing missing in the world!

PS: The block mini-game looked like the one in Spirit Tracks.

"SONY MAKE SOME GAMES FOR VITA DAMN IT"

"Hey guys, we're releasing a new game"

"LOL SONY ARE DOOMED"

This is getting a tad bit out of hand. Desperate Sony seems to be worse/copycat Sony.

This has been in development since the Vita was announced, and still called NGP. Seriously.

Everything in this world is already invented. It doesn't remove the fact that there are those who start trends and those who only follow them.

Considering Sony has probably funded the most new franchises this generation, they certainly must not be the latter. Infamous, Uncharted, Last Guardian, Journey, Motorstorm, and Resistance are all new franchises.

Smart As? Really? Can't believe they named it that.

I am a much bigger nintendo than sony fan, which is exactly why I'm glad that sony has been ripping off nintendo stuff as of late. Nintendo does SO much better under pressure. Even if sony can get a little bit of steam with their copycat franchises, it could put more pressure on nintendo to outdo themselves.

A little bit of healthy competition never hurt anybody. I don't think anybody is worried about sony demolishing nintendo and causing them to exit the industry, so I don't think any sony or nintendo fans should be upset about this.

Hey, the game might even be good!

Just like Sony started the trend of motion gaming with Eye Toy. Hop off the wave Nintendo!

Edit: On Topic, I'm not really interested in these types of games, but they seem to be popular on handhelds.

so because something's been done, no one should try to do it either/improve upon it?

Agreed. Just don't know why they had to name it like that...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Nintendo is still allowed to incorporate online and HD. They're also allowed to copy anything else.

The rule only applies to everyone that is not Nintendo.

I would just like to think that Sony should also try to develop/announce new experiences for their new handheld. Not just copy things competitors did years ago.

Like Gravity Daze and Sound Shapes for instance?

Umm, no, actually. What does it mean?

Catalogue titles are used to fill out a line-up. You have your key, marquee titles, and then you have lesser stuff that rounds out your catalogue filling the gaps in the market they don't cover.

Not sure but I don't think such vague/general things like online and HD are comparable to game and controller concepts.

There's been millions of these type of games across every platform known to man. Why are Nintendo fanboys getting sandy vaginas over this one?
