True.

I feel Terry's Wonderland will have the highest 3DS opening yet.

This will bode well for DQ's future on the platform.

But isn't this a remake instead of a new title?

Well yeah but it's been a long time since the original came out and it was the best selling DQ Monster title ever. Last year, DQMJ 2: Professional (enhanced release of DQMJ2, released only one year later) sold over 600k so I'm sure this one will do fine.

It had a 58% sellthrough at the end of the year, not 48% :) But yeah, not very good, but the sales expectations for this game were probably quite low. The PS3/Xbox 360 version was also released just about 1 month earlier, so that probably affected the sales a bit of the Vita version.

OMG! Thanks for the correction! I really don't know how I did this error. O_O
But wouldn't the quantity shipped be an indication of how much they thought it would sell?
Yeah I know Nintendo often overship their casual/sport titles, but it's not a casual game, and in the end it barely sold more than half the initial shipping. The exercise could be make with the other PSV games too. I would be curious to see the result... To late to do it now, I must sleep, but I'll try to look at it tomorrow.

Predictions

[3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D (5 weeks) - 500.000
[PSV] Gundam Seed: Battle Destiny (4 weeks) - 95.000
[PSV] Persona 4: Golden (3 weeks) - 150.000
[PS3] Lollipop Chainsaw (3 weeks) - 25.000
[NDS] Pokemon Black 2 / White 2 (2 weeks) - 2.000.000
[PS3] Atelier Ayesha (1 week) - 100.000
[3DS] Culdcept (1 week) - 25.000

PSV

Jesus, I remember the PSP having a weaker start than that software-wise. That really does rather drive home how grim the situation for the Vita is right now (and sales are so low you can see something like Ciel no Surge cause a noticeable bump). Still, June may bring a little relief, but I don't think Persona 4, MGS HD and a Gundam Seed game will be able to take it above a million, especially not with two of those being remakes.

Also, might as well throw my hat into the ring:

[3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D (5 weeks) - 500k
-DQ is a strong franchise, but this is a remake, even if it's on the Hot Shit Platform de rigeur. I don't think it'll be strong enough to do seven figures.
[PSV] Gundam Seed: Battle Destiny (4 weeks) - 120k
[PSV] Persona 4: Golden (3 weeks) - 75k
- It's a strong game, but it's a remake on the weakest handheld in recent memory. If anything I fear this prediction is optimistic.
[PS3] Lollipop Chainsaw (3 weeks) - 50k
[NDS] Pokemon Black 2 / White 2 (2 weeks) - 2 mil
[PS3] Atelier Ayesha (1 week) - 95k
The PS3 Ateliers have been mad strong and only get stronger, and this one's got a pretty good hype train behind it. That said, they usually only break six-figures after a few weeks, so with only a few days of sales I don't think it'll go into six-figs. It'll be close, though! And it'll probably do a bit better in its first week than previous titles!
[3DS] Culdcept (1 week) - 30k

Pokemon Black/White 2 is probably going to take over the charts entirely. I actually anticipate the biggest opening for any game in Japan ever for Black/White 2.

Why ? Isn't it charting at COMG below orginal Black/White ?

I think it will sell less than first B/W due to being in the middle of transmition phase from NDS to 3DS.
3DS owners would prefer it to be game made for 3DS and NDS has been mostly dead for months.

Hahaha people predicting DQM will only do 500k in a month.

Edit: But seriously, why do you think it will suddenly do much worse than the last 3 DQM games?

I think it will do more but, to be fair this is a remake and iirc Caravan Heart for GBA did ~600k. So a million isn't necessarily guaranteed for DQM.

While I'm not sure about being heavily overshipped or not, what I meant was, in terms of sales, for the type of product it was, it didn't bomb.
But the closest comparison for that type of product, its direct predecessors, sold several times as well.

I don't see it doing higher numbers than the original Black and White games, unless the franchise becomes exponentially more front-loaded.

TBF that was an awful example, might as well compare early MH games as reason for the next MH to not sell over a million. The context of the sales is missing....

How so? After the explosion of MHP, the MH games have significantly increased in sales and continue to do well. DQM: CH represented a steep decline for that spinoff series coming off the hugely successful DQM1/2 games on GBC... Now it's true that DQM:J 1/2 restored the series to its former greatness (sales wise), but you also have to realise that this game is a remake and not a brand new entry. We have no precedence for how those tend to perform (except for DQM 1+2 on PS1, but that's on a console), thus there are legitimate question marks to how well DQM1r could do compared to the Joker games.

DQM 3D isn't assured 1M after 5 weeks but using KH as a barometer for DQM's sales is...nonsensical. Especially after how the two series performed on the original DS.

You're talking about a single entry from nearly a decade ago, in a subseries that's otherwise performed much better, on a platform that had pretty different expectations attached to it. It's not unreasonable to take the franchise's entire history into account when making predictions, but drawing a straight line from CH's performance to "Terry's Wonderland Remake might not hit a million" makes little sense on its own.

Like, there are legit reasons one might bring up as to why DQM:TW might not perform very well, but none of them have anything to do with Caravan Heart.

WHAT THE FUCK

You're talking about a single entry from nearly a decade ago, in a subseries that's otherwise performed much better, on a platform that had pretty different expectations attached to it. It's not unreasonable to take the franchise's entire history into account when making predictions, but drawing a straight line from CH's performance to "Terry's Wonderland Remake might not hit a million" makes little sense on its own.

Like, there are legit reasons one might bring up as to why DQM:TW might not perform very well, but none of them have anything to do with Caravan Heart.
Well I wasn't suggesting that that was the determining factor. Just that it is one thing to consider alongside the fact that the new DQM game is also a remake. Anyway, I was mostly playing Devil's Advocate...given the recent momentum the series carries, my feeling is that this game will perform very well; a million is realistic enough.

Your predictions for DQM and Pokemon are way too low, they will both do better than that in their first week alone.
