Resistance Burning Skies |OT| Extinguishing the Flames of Vitality

No excuse. 3.1 GB is too big for a demo. I have never seem a Xbox 360 or PS3 demo over 2 GB. For a portable, it's unacceptable.

I prefer it this way myself honestly.

Download the demo, you like it you can just simply buy the unlock key and you're good to go. Prefer it over downloading a 500 MB file then having to download the entire thing all over again.

And you're shit outta luck if you want to try it and then buy retail. 3.1 GB demos are a bad idea. And I have the bandwidth and the card space to do it.

They're not a bad idea, they're a terrible idea. Especially on a device where you know the vast majority of users are short on memory.

Unfortunately, everything about this release is hinting that the western branches of Sony still don't get it about portable games and gamers. Hope E3 proves me wrong.

Demo is a pretty decent chunk of the first (I assume) level. Seemed pretty good, didn't notice anything that was really bad. Seems like a totally solid FPS, and when taken in the context of previous portable FPS's it is pretty damn impressive.

Alright, just finished the demo.

In no way shape or form is this anything under a 5/10, based on the demo alone that is crystal clear, the game play was tight and better than ANY other handheld game of its ilk to date. Anyone rating this game below a 5 is doing it for hits or just trying to see the Vita go up in smoke.

That said, it isn't a 10 either...

The game controls tight and the weapons are easy to use, as are the touch controls for grenades and secondary fire modes.

The AI is a bit simplistic, but still provides a decent threat even on normal.

My largest complaint is the graphics, which do not scream showcase Vita game. I KNOW the Vita can do much better. The graphics are not bad at all, but they fail to really impress, they are just serviceable/adequate. (then again, Resistance 1 was the same for me on PS3).

All in all I may actually pick this up, if nothing else to support software on this damn device so we can get more.

If the full game is the same quality as the demo I see it being a 7.5-8.5 kind of game. (SP only)

Ridiculous to make a demo over 3 gigs, especially since I am a retail buyer. Decided to download the gravity rush demo first even though I am more interested in this game.

I can't get the rear touch sprint working correctly to save my ass. It works less than 10% of the time, you have to hit it JUST right for it to trigger. Much easier and less frustrating to just use down on the D-pad. I know it's not the touch pad, I checked it with other games. Seems like it was a neat idea implemented in a half-assed way.

For those who have the game. Does it have a flip cover?

Yup

Shame MP is still not working (I know there working on it but still).

And yes it's nowhere near a 2/10 or 5.5 but you have to set your expectations accordingly, If you come in thinking too highly of it, it will probably let you down. This isn't a big budget PS3 game and it shows.

Everyone pretty much covered everything else. Graphics are OK but some spots look really nice (bosses and bigger environments). Gun sounds are terrible but the guns themselves are very fun to use. Level design is pretty OK too from what ive played so far. Game has lots of stuff to shoot and some hidden stuff here and there. Story is whatever, and from what I noticed the AI is OK but can go bonkers at times.

Yes there is a alternate cover BTW. Its badass.

Fifa got it right, no excuse to fuck this up

Anyone know if the full game is just the unlock code and you HAVE to download the Demo?? Im downloading the demo but chances are im gona end up buying it...

Glad to see some positive impressions. The Gametrailers review was also pretty favorable. All in all I'm looking forward to getting it.

Game could look a lot better but it's really fun. The controls are tight. I didn't think i'd like sprinting with the diagonal button but it works. I'd buy it if it was at a cheaper price.

EDIT: wait, you can sprint with the rear touch pad too? Guess I should've looked at the controls

As I started to play the demo, I wasn't enjoying it too much. The graphics are a weird mish-mash of great and horrible, and the story feels like a Resistance also-ran.

And then I got the shotgun/crossbow. Holy crap.

This is a legendary video game shotgun, up there with some of the best. Totally turned me around on the game.

Blah, Resistance demo was terrible. The game is now a "maybe" at $15.

Going to play Gravity Rush and get that awful taste out of my mouth. (title screen music is wonderful)

Played the Demo and I honestly thought this game was pretty good. Not a AAA game at all but I was having a lot of fun with the Secondary mechanic. For the $20 I'm spending I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun with it.

Based on the demo I'd say it's a solid 7.

Yeah apparently the discount was only for the first batch of games :p Same in UK/Europe.

Sony already confirmed that Gravity Daze will be discounted on PSN

Not really, the recognizable gaming press is panning it, while a bunch of fan sites worried about getting their next review copy/Playstation focused mags are giving it the classic "this isn't very good, 7/10!" treatment. Par for the course with bad games.

GameTrailers isn't a fan site

So odd how polarized the reviews are. At least we're also seeing that Jim Sterling's final score is definitely trolling.

Gave the demo a try.

Like many people have said, certainly not a 2/10 game.

That shotgun/crossbow is awesome.

Holding down on the d-pad to run while using the left stick feels kinda comfortable. I wouldn't mind having that the run button on future FPS's.

It felt awesome to play a FPS on the Vita. This game, while not amazing, shows what the future may hold and I'm pretty happy about that.

If multiplayer works great, I could see myself purchasing this, but not at $40. I could see this going down to $30 in the coming weeks.

Said, "Fuck it" and went ahead and bought it off of PSN, really enjoying it so far. Hopefully the MP stuff is sorted by the time I finish SP. The crossbow/shotgun is freaking awesome.

You don't have to hold down, just press.
I thought it worked well.

And yeah, even if I didn't like it (demo), I'm happy about future FPS games.

Played the demo and while it's not mind blowing or anything it's also not a terrible way to pass time. Reminds of me of Gameloft games.

Will buy.

I like this game in a lot of ways. Pretty good graphics, nice lighting, decent story, tight gunplay. It's just that there's a lot of things that aren't good. Audio quality, video compression (dreadful), multiplayer is completely barebones (not to mention it doesn't work right now!), and it just doesn't feel like a lot of love was put into it.

I don't know what I would rate it, honestly. It's definitely not a 2/10, though. That's just stupid.

Played a good 30 minutes of the game and came away reasonably impressed.

It's certainly not a top shelf game by any means but I'm finding it quite playable and superior to the Insomniac games in some areas. For instance, the first person animation, aiming down sights, and camera movement are all far superior to what Insomniac delivered in the first two games. R1 and 2 were VERY stiff games and never quite felt solid to me. The gun modeling is much nicer than the first Resistance games as is their animation. This game manages to do a pretty damn good job with the "feel" aspect and that is pretty important in and of itself for a shooter.

I also appreciate how the quick "cinematic" sequences follow the Crysis model of staying in first person.

Despite awful preview footage, the framerate actually holds up really well thus far. While nowhere near as detailed as R3, it does actually run smoother than it did.

It's visually uneven but it is doing some things that R1 and 2 did not even attempt (such as environment shadows that actually cast on players and objects). Character models are a bit flat but look reasonable on a 5" screen.

I suspect it will never offer the types of quality scenarios that the best shooters tend to deliver but it definitely feels satisfying to play. We'll see how it continues.

Reminds of me of Gameloft games.
The main difference there is simply that this controls well. Gameloft games almost never do. I recently tried Nova 3, for instance, and found it to be almost unplayable in comparison despite some impressive visuals.

Tried the demo and ended up buying the game. I agree with a lot of the other opinions here that Resistance is in no way a 2/10 game and would probably give it a 7. I bought it full well knowing that it will be deleted once a better FPS hits the Vita, but as the only FPS in town, it's solid and a hell of a lot better than playing an iOS FPS with crappy touch-only controls.
