I wonder where he got that screen. I did a quick search and didn't find it.

Yeah... it was in the video. I can remove the img link if that's not considered fair game now that it's youtube'd.

edit: removed it from my post, but it's still in your quote. :p

(btw, it was a screencap of the video)

Can you technically say that screenshot is a scan? Yeah, I found that picture a couple of hours ago and avoided posting it because of that.

what do you all think the chances of this being a title for both 360 and 720? It seems like it would release close to the launch of 720...no need to undercut hype for a new Gears title with the release of a new console and having an upgraded version of the game for 720 owners could be a decent enough launch title. I expect many other games that release next fall to straddle next gen and current gen.

I don't see how a Halo game could be ready for launch...Epic also won't release their new flagship UE4 title right at launch or near another Epic game.

No more d-pad weapon switching?
Good. Not having to either complete stop or sprint to switch weapons is definitely a gameplay improvement.

Grenade on RB?
I usually don't aim grenades, but it was nice having the ability to accurately place a grenade once in a while.

Now that dpad is freed up, I guess we'll see equipments and abilities tied to the d-pad. I think this bodes well for the future of the Gears franchise since it opens room for creativity and expansion of gameplay.

Yeah, this was discussed a few pages back. Seeing as Bungie’s Destiny, according to the court documents, is going to have a dual 360/720 release – it would be likely that this game might also get a dual release.

Then again, seeing this might be a new prequel trilogy, this might be used as a appetizer to get people to finish the trilogy on the new console. Time will tell.

i've never been a huge fan of gears, so take my perspective as you will, but i always HATED having to switch to grenades and use the shitty aim mechanic to throw them. in a game so focused on cover mechanics, grenades should have played a much bigger role in flushing people out of cover, but that never really seemed to be the case because of how clunky it was to actually use them.

of course, i'm sure hardcore gears players overcame this, just saying i couldnt.

you're not forced to use it. I haven't used the aim mechanic for grenades since gears1. so much easier to simply toss them without holding down LT. if you play long enough you'll get to know the distances.

if this is a 360 only title it will give us a good idea when to expect the next xbox. If this gets released in winter 2013 I wouldnt expect the 720 until a year later.one game on both consoles is an awesome idea though.

Epic could really blow us away with an announcement on Monday that this game will hit this winter 2012. What has PCF been doing since Bulletstorm shipped? I assume they've been working on this game ever since BS shipped in February of last year.

So this is basically Gears of War: ODST and not a full fledged Gears game?

What the fuck does that mean!....does gears have Orbital Drop Shock Troopers cuz that would be awesome, id love to see that, some dropping from low orbit is jsut what gears needs.

On Topic
We get to play the chick during campaign....AWESOME!!!!
Her hair looks spectacular dont know if its just coincidence but it looks like the hair is reacting to her armor as it drops.......I wonder if its using Apex or is this dynamic hair now part of Unreal 3.

Eh...glad to hear its pretty different.

I mean last time I checked Gears 3 still works pretty damn perfect and in my mind this game shouldn't even exist...so having it be different enough to be worth my time sounds good.

I agree with this. I think it's cool Epic is willing to make changes like these to their most important franchise.

Most people think that this will have similar packaging and feature as ODST. ODST was a supplement game, with a new MP mode, no competitive online and also included the entire Halo 3 MP, plus DLC. I see Judgment being similar, except it's campaign will be full length

I hope that screenshot is real and you get to play as Sophia. :O

It's real.

from awesome game like bulletstorm to gears :/
what a serious letdown.

You should look at this from a positive standpoint. PCF can add their touch and creativity to Gears and make it better.

Wait BAIRD is the main character??

HAHa fuck that

Gears of War: Judgement - OverRun, Multiplayer Classes, Progression and More
Gears of War 2 introduced Horde Mode, Gears of War 3 introduced Beast Mode, and now Judgement, the latest in the series will introduce a combination of the two, Overrun.

Overrun introduces a concept not yet seen in a Gears of War game. Class based combat, but OverRun will also offer players progression and impose a stronger emphasis on teamwork and strategy. The game mode consists of two timed five versus five rounds, where one side defends a pair of objectives from the opposing side. Obviously the two sides are the Locust and the COG. As the COG, you’ll be protecting two sealed Emergence Holes and a Hammer of Dawn beacon. If you successfully defend the Hammer of Dawn, the round will end, blowing the Locust to smithereens. If the Locust reach the Emergence Holes and uncover them however, the COG are ripped to shreds by a flood of Kryll.

For those of you who are confused by the change in developer, this is still the same Gears of War you know and love, it’s still a third person shooter, same cover mechanics and essentially the same gameplay. I say essentially because the game offers even more action than ever before. If you’re interested in story details, please check Only SP’s article for those.

The classes will be described below in bullet form so you can compare more easily.

  • Baird-Engineer (Weapons: gnasher and blowtorch, Special abilities: sentry turret, blowtorch that repairs damaged fortifications)
  • Cole-Soldier (Lancer and Boomshot, deploy ammo crates, share ammo with engineers)
  • Sofia-Medic (Lancer and Snub pistol, stim gas grenade, revives fallen allies)
  • Garron-Scout (Longshot and snub, beacon grenade, climb perches for better sniping position)
The article describes two of the maps from the hands-on demo the team at Gameinformer got to play OverRun on. One map is set atop city rooftops and the other on a militarized island. From the description of the map from the rooftops, it sounds like it may be similar to the Rooftops map from Gears of War 1, but obviously more complex in nature, offering ventilation shafts for Tickers and more chokepoints. The island map is described as being much more “open”, with a central battlefield in the middle of the map.

As we said earlier, OverRun will offer progression for yourself, but this progression system will also expand to leveling up single characters as well. The article explains that you can level up a Ticker, for example, to become a more powerful one, or level up the medic and so on. They did not go into specifics about this progression system just yet though.

There are plenty more details in the Gameinformer article for you to read when the issue lands on your doorstep/inbox. The full article describes part of a mission from their hands on time with the game, as well as their impressions from multiplayer. One quote we will share with you however, should give you more hope in the game and relax fans that are worried about the game.

With a high-tension campaign that aims to trim the narrative fat while funneling in tons of enemies and a multiplayer mode that combines the best part of past Gears titles, Epic is set to deliver the definitive entry in the Gears of War series. Giving players new innovative challenges means shaking off the thin layer of rust and dried blood that’s formed on the series over the last six years, and some fans may feel threatened by the change. We spent hours familiarizing ourselves with the series’ new overall direction, and Epic’s prequel is shaking up humanity’s fight against the Locust in great ways. – GI Article

I'm pretty happy Baird is front and center on this. He's my favorite character in both the campaign and multiplayer, and his is the least-fleshed out of any of the core Delta COGs. At least as far as the games are concerned, I haven't read any of the books/comics.

As far as PCF go, I'm more than cool with them taking the reins. I do wish it were Bulletstorm 2 we were getting, but this is better than PCF releasing a commercially-underwhelming game and shuttering like so many other worthwhile developers.

E3 2012: More details on Gears of War Judgement
Gears of War: Judgement, which is being made by Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly, will be set 15 years before the events of the first game in the series.

It sees series’ protagonists Baird and his Kilo Squad “stand trial for transgression against the Coalition of Governments”.

The accusations include “desertion, cowardice, trespassing, theft of military tech and treason”.

People Can Fly say that the omission of the series’ iconic hero Marcus Fenix is deliberate, preferring instead to opt for a “fresh” take on the GOW universe that offers more creative flexibility.

It's LB for offhanded nades. Hold for arc.

The title of the thread is misleading, pxg. PCF are COdeveloping it. I assure you plenty of folks in NC are working on this product every single day. These days it is very common for multiple studios to pitch in.

Well yeah. You guys in NC obviously have a significant role in the game's production. But it's safe to say (maybe not?) that PCF is doing a the majority of the work. I mean, don't you want a bit of a break from Gears after working on three games consecutively?

Anyway, I'm actually excited for the new control scheme. A fast Gearsa, is a fun Gears for me. I bet most people will welcome the change. D-pad weapon switching was always spotty. But I blame MS for making a shitty controller, not you guys.

This rumor about the removal of stopping power needs to be confirmed. Just tell us now to avoid any baseless speculation and bullshit speculation for next four months :p

Again, I think you guys need to realize (you did learn this with Gears 3, good on you for that btw) that anything (direct or indirect) that effects players' mobility is usually a bad thing. Sure, you want some level or order within all the chaos. However, slowing people down and not allowing them to counter opponents after the fact (I mean, every action cannot be premeditate, let's be realistic) is pretty lame. Player's should be slapped on the wrist for making poor decisions. On the other hand, players shouldn't be discouraged to the point where certain strategies irrelevant due to odds being grossly against them (ie. Gnasher vs SOS pre-patch)

I'm going to stop before I end up writing a tome. I have more important things to do on a Friday night. I'm positive you do too ;)

With that said, I'm sure you'll apply the lessons you've learned between Gears 2 and 3 and install that knowledge into Judgement.

EDIT
Just to be assholes, you guys should make a teaser image/ short clip of Gears on UE4. Yeah, yeah...Elemental and Samaritan (thanks for FINALLY clearing that up at PAX) aren't ever gonna be real games, but it would be nice to see a small conceptual piece, depicting what Gears may look like on your new tech.
