Halo |OT4| Trust's a Tough Thing to Come by These Days

Domino Theory

Crystal Dynamics
The moment you get the hitscan BR in your hands and get into an epic strafe battle and successfully 5 shot your opponent, you'll feel it inside that all your complaining...was for nothing.

The core Halo gameplay is back and shines better than ever here with [very] passive perks and Armor Abilities simply complementing your play style, not replacing your basic functionality (which is what Reach did).

Only four weapons have bloom: the AR, the DMR, the Storm Rifle, and the Pistol, but bloom in this game is NOTHING more than an indicator of your respective weapon's rate of fire.

Games were fast, fluid, and fun. I couldn't stop using the BR, but you know what, the AR is growing on me as a perfect secondary weapon (which makes Firepower useful).

Infinity Slayer is where the ordinance drops happen after a few kills, but what you need to know is that this ordinance mechanic is ONLY in this gametype and the game doesn't necessarily hand you the drop, it drops it in a certain spot where it's fair game for anyone.

I would type more but I want to soak this all in, I'll give more impressions later.

Oh, before I go, the audio.... THE. FUCKING. AUDIO! JESUS! I could not get over the audio in this game every time I played.

Halo 4 is more of a gun-centric game than the previous Halos, very similar to Halo 2. I only got into two melee battles/two melee kills in 3 hours of game time. No amount of Armor Abilities, perk combinations, and ordinance drops are going to counteract the core gameplay and you and the primary weapon you get attached. Nothing, period.

edit; And before you shout "you fought scrubs", only the first game I played was a dong fest (I got first place on my team with 30 kills, followed by Voltron with 23 or so), the rest of the games I played were against people who knew what they were doing.

I expect each of you to have a 2000 word essay on the intricacies of Halo 4 and how it relates to donging on this thread by tomorrow morning.

It's a shame that Halo 3 is so bad at picking host, after two games where people were firing off single shots with their BRs on my screen we finally got one that made the experience a hundred times better, and all of a sudden I wasn't complete shit at the game anymore. I'd go back more often if the connections were better. Thanks to Ryan and co. for hosting the games.

Seems like the case with the weapon count and abundance of precision weapons (finally!)... But, I won't get too hyped. Hopefully the game is good and this isn't just the excitement of playing a new Halo game showing itself in this post.

Now the only thing left to do is decide where to preorder and wait til November.

It's either gonna be (somehow) the Microsoft Store or Wal-Mart. Which sucks, because I'd much rather do Amazon for their release date delivery.

Thanks for the info. Any quick thoughts on how "overpowered" Promethean Vision is?

Nice Omlet. Love the melee comment. Seems to be going with how my playstyle has been changing recently.

This pleases me.

I still haven't heard, is DMR 5 shot; BR 4?

--

The way they've mentioned 10 maps + "Forge Environments" is getting me really excited. I think it means we'll get multiple 'Forge World' maps, each with their own different aesthetics. Hopefully we get Snow, Dessert, Sand, Forrest, and sky/space. Then the ability to place Forerunner, Covenant, and UNSC materials/object on each of these maps.

Hell yeah.

Well, I don't think we're getting any more information until the MLG games this Friday. I wouldn't be surprised if something is leaked though >.>

I'm in the same boat... I need about 40 more post to hit member. With all this H4 talk... it shouldn't be too long. :)

If this is the case then I'm curious as to whether or not each environment would host individual palettes or a universal but flexible palette. Regardless, the wait for forge info is killing me inside. :(

I'd be happy either way. Of course having all objects avaliable to all forge canvasses would be a plus, but I doubt it would be possible to fit ~3x the amount of Forge World objects into each map, so the compromise would probably be LESS objects. In that case, I would prefer having the palettes isolated.

My thoughts exactly. Individual palettes would also give more reason to diversify map canvas other than just setting. This would remove the "all maps are gray" concept and at least offer a few options for color scheme and hopefully there are ways within each palette to try to create slightly varied coloring (like Think Twice's blue in the midst of a heavy gray palette). Not only that some map layouts and styles could be specific to a palette through unique object shapes so a map that is plausible on one environment may not be plausible in another due to the lack of a key object for your design. A lack of walkway, covers would make the exact feel of Chateau difficult to replicate.

I'm surprised because of no Black Ops.

Maybe that news story was right a year ago, maybe it is the beginning of the end for CoD.

While we may gripe and moan about some of the changes with Halo, it's those changes that keep it from becoming as stale as CoD.

If they showed MP it might have been a different story.

This too. However, since it's a CoD game the MP isn't going to change very much (at all).

So going by Domino's post, personal ordinance drops are only in Infinity Slayer? I know what I won't be be voting for.
I'm hoping they remove the vote and pray BS from all playlists and go the COD route of letting you play what you want to play. Or is this where they draw the line in copying COD? lol

Pretty OP, I'd say. That and Hardlight Shield are probably my only gripes with the game, but I hope that 343 lowers the range of PV to radar range.

The Hardlight Shield is nothing to worry about aside from it being annoying when someone deploys it mid-combat when you're about to get that perfect 5 shot. You can't shoot while using it, though, you're super slow, and you're vulnerable to explosives and melees from all directions.

Nice to see you posting here more. More Forgers are always welcome. Hopefully black kn1ght will be approved before too long.

Also, unrelated, but I just finished the season finale (S2) of GoT.

Greatest tv show of all time?

*WARNING SUPER SPOILERS*
Why yes, yes it is.

Also x2; thanks for the quickie Domino. Sounds soooo good to hear these things from one of us. I can't wait to see more of this beauty.

Domino. Thank your maker that you are anonymous and in the United States - else I'd be on my way to kidnap you and lock you in my basement. I would feed you dog treats and small amounts of water whilst asking intricate details on seemingly pointless Halo 4 chatter, from now until release day. Then I maybe let you leave. MAYBE.

I'm chilling on my brother's roommate's PC since I'm staying with them here and my brother just asked, "Is there Armor Lock in the next Halo?"

Me: "No."

Him: "Then who would play it?"

They exist, people!
