Velocity (PS3/PSP/Vita) - This game is awesome, I'll tell you why

Downloaded it thanks to the PS+ freebies but I haven't really tried it yet. Doesn't look like the kind of game I'd enjoy on PS3 though, and I sold my PSP :(

Velocity is truly a high quality game. The concept is original and refreshing, offering up an excellent blend of traditional shoot-up-up gameplay with puzzle elements. The graphics and music feel somewhat like an Amiga game (and I mean that as a compliment). The game is great fun, and you'll be encouraged to replay previously beaten levels to improve your score and/or time.

The Minis program has had a lot of great releases in recent months. Velocity stands out as one of the finest Minis yet, and is definitely worth checking out!

Ooo, this reminds to finish this game. Had no idea it was 50 main missions. I was actually pretty close to beating it.

The progression in the game is terrific. Introduces and expands on mechanics first before introducing another one.

Another vote for this game. Quality game, stellar soundtrack. Got it for free on PS+, but would have gladly paid $5 - $7 for it.

It plays and sounds awesome on the PS3.

On the topic of other good PS Minis, my wife and 5yo son both enjoyed Farm Frenzy 2, which was also a PS+ freebie.

Updated the OP. I'm not gonna give up that easily, more people need to play this. It's hard to find a better game to spend 5 bucks on. That's like, 5 Snickers right? Too much sugar and chocolate isn't good for your health.

Keep fighting the good fight. Game totally surprised me when I tried it a while back. Definitely deserves more love.

Exactly! I'd much rather have Velocity than have my teeth fall out! ;)

Futurlab's amazing Coconut Dodge was pretty much the reason I got so into the PS minis range to begin with. Will definitely grab Velocity in the near future~

They said this has passed 80,000 downloads which sounds pretty good but I'm wondering how many of those were actual sales.

Yeah, I downloaded it 4 times alone.

Yeah it was free on PS+ so i imagine a lot of those were free downloads. I like to think a lot of them were paid though

I don't know how it works but I would hope that they got paid something for the PS+ copies that were downloaded. Just because Sony give the game away doesn't mean the developer has to as well.

Yes, people should play this. Even if you aren't typically into the genre, it is very awesome. It's fitting that it's one of the last PS minis we got from PS+ before they did the E3 change since it's without a doubt the best (imo) mini they've given on the service.

Couldn't have agreed more. I booted it up not knowing that it's a retro shooter and before i knew it, i was already past level 20. Amazingly addictive gameplay.

It was free on PS+ but I just assumed it was crap like almost every other mini they give out for free. Guess I'll give it an actual try.

Of course they get paid for it. I imagine it's a flat fee. What I was getting at was this seems to be cream of the crop when it comes to Minis but it's hard to gauge how well it has done without knowing the breakdown between the PS+ giveaway and actual sales. They don't seem too forthcoming about it either.

Sure a lot of those free Minis PS+ gives away are crap but many of the best ones that have been listed here were also among the freebies. You never know what you're going to get when they put one of those up for download.

Good thread, I was only just recommending this game in the Vita general advice thread a couple of days ago but nobody seemed interested :-(, it's a shame that a lot of people dismiss some of these games purely on the basis that they are minis.

Thanks, I'm still thinking of ways to spread the word further. Maybe I could harass Sony or something. :/

Sony's official PlayStation Twitter account retweeted a comment about this thread yesterday. :)

Oh no, it would be a mistake to assume most of the Minis are crap. Several of the Minis that they've given away through PS+ in the last few months were really good.

Yeah, it's funny how indie games are all the rage these days, except apparently if they happen to be Minis...

Played the first few acts. It's actually very fun and perfect for a portable. One of the best minis that grabbed me right from the get go. No regrets and I'm glad I actually paid for this and didn't get it while it was free since I did that the opportunity to do that.

That's because a lot of the Minis are crap and there are no trials, one of the things the Velocity dev was complaining about. Sony should be a bit more discerning on what they put on there instead of allowing any old shovelware, then maybe the selection would gain a reputation for quality bite size games.

Oh, sweet! i was waiting for this to be downloadable on vita (was too lazy to transfer)
it's so unique. and so genious. dat teleporting mechanic.

You can definetly feel the coconut dodge influence. scrolling side to side to collect the gems.

I hope futurlabs make a HD version like some other minis devs have done (cubixx HD, and there were a few others, which took minis, but made PS3 versions with HD graphics, trophies and whanot)

a PS3/PSV crossplay version would be awesome. the ability to use the back/front touch to select where to warp would be amazing.

I picked up Velocity for my Vita, assuming it would be throwaway and I'd play it for 15 min and that would be that...

Yadda yadda yadda, 3 hours later and I'm in love.

Sweet my OCD about tagging literally everything that goes up on PS+ for free the second it goes up on Tuesday (or Wednesday sometimes -_-) finally pays off!

Honestly never would have thought about playing this game if it wasnt for this thread, will definitely try this out now on my Vita (honestly surprised it works on it too!).

Maybe I should check out all the minis I have tagged for free now. I feel like Sony does such a terrible job advertising these things.

And yeah I'm one of those terrible people who would totally check out more games like this if it had trophies. I feel bad about it but its true.

This game is fantastic on Vita, and there are so many levels to get perfect on. This even gave me a bit of blister-thumb, which I haven't had in years.

SCEA are really being assholes with all the games requiring a PS3 to purchase.

Wow, there are some amazingly positive impressions in here :). Give it a try people. You won't regret it.

Small games like this where it is all just about the gameplay are what i love about gaming. Will definitely give this a look and hope it gets more attention.

Vita doesn't work with Media Go? It's possible to transfer games from that to a hooked up PSP, strange that it wouldn't work with a Vita.
