Persona 4: Arena Region-Locked on PS3 - Confirmed [PR statement in OP]

DLC is a whole different beast. Some are indeed region-locked and it also has something to do with what region your PSN account is.

I can buy and play things from say the US store. However the DLC needs to match the version of your game. As such it is more 'game region locked' then straight 'region locked' I suppose.

Yep that's true but it is also account based. From the Uncharted 3 steelbook edition for example, there were free multiplayer perks for download. The game was region 3 and so were the codes. My main PSN account however is the US one. The perks will only work for the Asian account.

Good thing online passes work for all accounts on the console, regardless of region.

True. Still that is more 'region inconvenient' then 'region locked'. Hopefully that doesn't change.

Because there is no such ruling. It is 100% legal to sell region locked things in Australia. You also do not have to provide a method to unlock them. However if people find a way, then you can't do anything about it.

Yeah, I just discovered that myself (emphasis mine):

This is all on Atlus. Sony gives a choice to publishers. First region locked ps3 game! How lame.

yeah, for 6 years no publisher (bad, evil and good ones) locked their games on PS3,even the ones who lock them on 360,Atlus deserve some boycotting and zero sale for P4 Area because of this bullshit.

You know Atlus, when considering that the main reason you have survived so long is because of a loyal fanbase, I really, really hope you reconsider pissing off what may be a significant portion of said fanbase through region-locking.

That was Bethesda, this is Atlus. The former makes games that sell millions, the latter aspires to thousands. AGAIN: Atlus has no influence.

Yeah right it has no influence ..... Sorry but to burn a forest , someone has to burn the first branch and the wind will take care of the rest ..

Atlus Usa , like it or not is a publisher , Atlus Japan is a devellopper /publisher too .. If they decide to lock and nobody complains, other will think ..let's lock too !

You only one to start the bad cycle..

The horse armor started the same way ... (it's minor , it's not important , it's only bethesda , etc etc ) and look where we are today ..If the horse armor didn't have a free pass because it wasn't important as all of them were saying , things would have been different.

Here it's the same ..Things on PS3 are stable .. region free for all games, with dlc tied to their original region and whatever the dev want to do for online ..
It all worked for 6+ years ... Are you telling me that Atlus won't open the way for everyone else ? Who are you kidding ?
Everyone follow the path that worked before for someone.

Looks to me like it's all on the European publisher, they don't even know how to pack the games they ship from their online store, so I'm not suprised at all by this.

Considering we haven't had any region locked PS3 games to my knowledge for it's entire lifespan.

There is no good reason for this.

I love region free. So many games I wouldn't be able to play because I would have to purchase another system just to play them if region free wasn't available.

I am looking forward to Persona 4: Arena but if this truly happens then I'm likely going to pass this up.

I'll live.

Man, what is Zen United even thinking? Looks like Atlus hands are tied on this. Real shame too.

Yeah, Zen (the publisher) must be breaking Atlus' balls over this, right? Perhaps they published some Atlus titles in PAL regions before (I have no idea, I've been importing everything) and were unhappy with the way those obscure Atlus titles are imported all the time by a devoted fanbase but then don't fly off store shelves to your average customer.

Honestly I have no beef with them if announce a date in a timely manner and the wait isn't ridiculous. But they won't and it will be.

They didn't, the only reason why Zen is publishing this in Europe is because is an ASW game, I bet they will not touch P4G, the publisher will be Ghostlight probably.

Zen United have published Arcsys games, not Atlus. The only relation they have is that Atlus publishes Arcsys games in the US

Ghostlight does the RPGs usually

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad
Gone are the days where you could buy a game from another region and not worry about it playing on your PS3. GONE!

I hope this is a lie, between you, me, and Dupree.

Fuck you Zen United? **Insult postponed, awaiting official confirmation from Zen United**

Also will boycott, eat it.

It starts with one game, then the rest follow. We should snip it at the pathological source.

They published the other ARCs games like blazblue in PAL? Were they much later than US releases?

Look at it this way. Blazblue ended up being released in Australia, about a week before Blazblue Continuum shift was released.

Was a bit of a disaster. This is where it would probably be coming from.

As long as I can still play with players in all regions, I'm good.(Region locked online play is something I wish would go away moreso than this.)

Sucks for people that wanted to import, but I mean at the end of the day a good game is still being made available for everyone to play so I personally can't get too negative over this.

Definitely don't feel strong enough about it to boycott or whatever.

I'm so not supporting this kind of trend. I like PS3 as region-free consoles. I don't mind that the DLCs are region-related but I don't see why I should wait to enjoy a game that I want to play just because my local distributor is incompetent or non-existent.

Haha! Thats bad! At least when P4A comes out in stores around October 2013 or whenever, I can just skip it and go straight to P4: Champion edition with Junpei, Koromaru and Dojima.

I don't understand why people would be so upset over this to not buy a game they were eagerly anticipating otherwise. What's the big deal? You have to wait an extra month to play it?

Different prices. Australian's could import the US version normally, get it much earlier and at a much cheaper price.

A digital example, but relevant here is Catherine $50 on the US PSN at release, $100 US for us!

I wouldn't support any game that was the first to region lock on the PS3. x: As someone who imports some of their games I don't want this to be the start of something that would effect me badly.

Muuuuuch longer than a month from what we can tell by history. Still, since I really want the game, that doesn't change just because I'm getting screwed over in this way. I think most people aren't serious about boycotting so much as they are saying that to express their shock and displeasure.

If the system it's releasing on would be region locked by default, I would be with you (e.g. 3DS, still no Devil Survivor: Overclocked for EU...). But this is completely unnecessary. Why Atlus, why?

Ghostlight have been all but dead for a few years now. Koei published P3/FES and Square Enix published P4 and Odin Sphere.

The game itself, it seems.

To people who seem to think Region-locking on PS3 doesn't happen/isn't possible, I just looked at all the PS3 games I currently own (about two dozen). They all have a 1 on the box (they work in ONE REGION. America) except Uncharted 3 which is labeled "ALL".

Region-locking happens. A LOT.

Weird how my copy of Gundam EXVS has a 3 on the box, yet works on my ps3 purchased here in north america, from a run-down toys r us. I must have a magic ps3.

Edit: oh. everyone else beat me to it. That'll teach me to reply to a single linked post without first reading the thread :/

Can you prove that or is it just based on what you've seen online? Seriously, not to be an asshole, but I doubt all these publishers are just lying on all these boxes.
I don't think you get how it works.
The region number on the box tells you what region the version of the game you're buying is for.

For eg: region 1: usa ntsc
Region 3: ntsc hk/singapore/etc
Region 2: uk/uae/india pal

Region 1 games obviously have single language support (eng) while the eu region 2 games have language selection at the beginning.

But all these games can be played on the same ps3, no matter what the region. I own region 1 valkyria chronicles, lbp1, blazbblue ct, I own region 3 dead space, but I own region 2 of all my 50 other games

Also, if you have a region 3 copy of a game, region 1 dlc (us psn) usually works on it

This. So much. I import my games from US and Japan from time to time. So this is a direct attack on my interest to continue to do so.

Exactly. A few people seem confused but its quite simple. Labels say what region a game is from. That doesn't mean they are locked. They are only locked when you put them in a ps3 from another region and they don't work.

Portal 2
Batman: Arkham City
Uncharted 3
Marvel vs. Capcom 3

I'm living in Asia right now with a Asian PS3 playing NA games.

I can confirm that these games are not region locked for sure.

Cancelled my pre-order, would have been nice to get it early but I guess I'll have to wait for the EU release.
