PlayStation All-Stars joined by Heihachi and Toro

Many of us were asking for a Tekken character, you can go back to that "PS All Star discussion thread" and see that series brought up quite often. We were just unsure who it'd be since Tekken has so many character. Some thought it'd be Paul since he appeared in that 'Michael' commercial. But Tekken definitely deserved a spot. It was one of the top most popular series on the PSone, and i'd argue that the PSone era should end up dominating in terms of characters. There were more iconic franchises/characters created that generation than any other as far as PS goes.

You'll find demand, no matter how small, for practically every single character or IP that's appeared on the Playstation to appear in Battle Royale. It's just that anyone plucked from the Tekken cast is going to pale in comparison to certain iconic figures that the masses are really screaming out for, hence the mixed reaction towards Heihachi's reveal here, N4G, GameFAQS... everywhere. The longer Superbot hold off from officially announcing someone of Crash, Cloud or Snake's calibre, the worse it's going to get.

It ultimately boils down to how many third-party slots are available in total. If it's very few (and it should be - Sony ought to be focusing on their first-party here) then that doesn't bode well at all.

Edit - Awww hells naw, y'all talking about Bloody Roar? It'd never happen, but the likes of Long the Tiger or Yugo the Wolf in Battle Royale would make me cream my pants. I know it'd be a waste of a third-party slot in the big picture because Bloody Roar is too dang obscure, but still.

I don't own a Vita or a PS3 and I am getting this game just for the Parappa fanservice. (And I fucking mean that. This isn't mere DAY 1 hyperbole.)

Thank you, based god Superbot.

So what're you gonna do, stare longingly at the case, sniff the inside of the manual and ponder at the possibility of what might be?

4 Parappas at once? Contain yourself, soultron :p

I must play 4P by myself.

2 hands.
2 feet.

Totally doable. I will become ambidextrous above and below the belt.

But my brain might explode. Who wins? Should I also delve into exploring forcing MPD onto myself?

I could also think about getting all of my limbs amputated and then getting donors. Think of it as Liquid's consciousness being a part of Revolver Ocelot post-Grey Hound arm choppage. I'd do that. But with both arms and both legs.

I just need to track down willing (and ferociously competitive) members of the FGC now.

Oh, well Clockw0rk said it was Metal Gear.

Yeah, I was watching that with my roommate, and I just looked at him and was like "Did Clockw0rk just call that a metal gear?"

He made a mistake. That's the big mech you fight near the end of Killzone 3.

Sony should've just grabbed some characters from Toshinden or Bloody Roar since y'all complain so much about Heihachi.

Actually, thinking about it lifting someone from Bloody Roar would've been awesome!!

Actually that's my sole spot of disappointment with the roster too: A significant lack of Japanese characters. Nobody from Wild Arms, Legaia, Alundra, Legend of Dragoon, Genji, etc.? That's kind of strange seeing as how the inclusion of Toro means they want international appeal

Well I for one like Toro. His weekly Toro station show on the Japanese PSN was an interesting and fun way for me to improve my reading comprehension back in the day. His inclusion won't mean as much to most Westerners but I like it.

Yeah this one is ridiculous.

Remembering everyone's score because the game refuses to display it is not a good "skill" to emphasize in a fighting game. It's horrible for both spectators and players.

It's not a game of hidden information. The information is there - you just have to remember it.

Not displaying the score in a competitive score-based game is just beyond weird. (I assume there will be a way to make the score visible, and everyone will do that...)

The messaging here is also very strange. The game has "real" fighting game players working on it and is supposed to be more competitive than Smash, yet includes stuff like this which exists...I guess so that newbs can have fun mashing and not feel bad because they are losing? I struggle to understand the reasoning behind it at all.

They excplained it, they said they tought it were more fun when the score weren't displayed all the time.
Because when a person got a solid lead, it were less likely he were to run away from the battle to safeguard his victory - especially if they had super's qued up, if the score weren't displayed until after the fight.
The current way, people would fight all out until the the timer went out, and to build up supers and execute them to get the scores and maybe risk getting killed and drop the lead - because it were much harder to keep track on if one of the other 3 players were right at your heels in score.
They felt the dynamic of the fight were more fun without the score.

Fat Princess and Redec are just wrong and don't fit here since all the other are loved and popular characters.

I guess they wanted a princes wearing pink but what's the excuse for Redec.

The excuse for Radec? Uh, he's awesome?

You may not be a fan of the Killzone series, but there are a quite a few people that are, and Radec is a badass villain who does something super awesome and shocking for KZ fans towards the end of Killzone 2.

As for Fat Princess, her inclusion is awesome, because Fat Princess is awesome. It's seriously one of the best games on the PSN, especially when you're playing with a bunch of friends/people that know what they're doing.

Not everything in this game is about trying to ape Smash Bros. Yes, the princess is wearing pink. Why is this a sticking point? She plays nothing like Peach. And she's fat! There are also people that love Fat Princess, and fans recognize her. Keyword being fans. PBR is for fans of PlayStation, in the same way SSB is for fans of Nintendo. You don't have to be 100% knowledgable about PlayStation or Nintendo to enjoy PBR or Smash, but it's a nice bonus if you are. The fun gameplay is what really ropes you in, once you get your hands on it.

The backhanded and overt negativity about this game is almost at comical levels right now.

It looks like they cobble a build together for all these events while withholding how the game's menu and stuff will look later.

I actually think this is probably likely. This game has had, what, three different demos already now. Considering the majority of games get a couple of demos at most, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a "basic" build that they're using for these events.

The presentation of the menus does look way too bland to be final. I know the gameplay is most important, but things like this obviously do matter.

Im glad to see they are useing young Heihachi from Tekken 1, it means there's a good chance they'll be useing the classic Crash design if gets included .

It's actually his most recent appearance from Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which wouldn't bode well for Crash using that logic.

I wasnt aware of that. His design looks much like Heihachi from either Tekken 1 or 2.

Hopefully they'll still stand by the Classic Crash design if it happens.

Yeah, i like the idea.
It'd be nice to have a choice though, SSB was so good even because it had so much costumization possible.

Actually, everything I've read suggests this game is a lot more competitive than you give it credit for.
I havent seen how it is more competitive since we probably need more time to see hiw it balance out, but I do see the game is much more technical than your typical party games.I think playing and mastering a character could be very satisfying.

Anyone else find Jin Kazama to be more synonymous with Tekken than Heihachi?

He didn't appear until Tekken 3, and even then, the main character seems to shift between him and Kazuya throughout the series. They're both considered to be of equal importance. At least with Heihachi, he has the distinction of being a bad guy who's appeared in every game, and he's made a ton of crossover cameos in games like Soulcalibur II, two tennis games, Tales of the Abyss, Pac-Man Fever, and Namco X Capcom. He also seems to have a lot more personality than Jin and Kazuya, so he's probably a better fit for something goofy like this.

Didn't Crash barely change? Well other than having a much more detailed model, unlike Spyro.

Jin looks so awesome though :(

Thanks :p

This game seriously needs more female characters. I'm surprised Kat hasn't been announced given the marketing synergy Gravity Rush would get with her being in this game.

I just CTRL+F'd the entire thread for 'Kat' and I was a bit disappointed with how often she didn't come up.

She's the best new (Sony) character of 2012, I hope they include her!

game looks like shit, but I guess that's what you get when your inspiration is a Nintendo game

still interested and would love to see:

I don't know if stock matches will make things much better with the way many of the Level 3 supers are looking.

"Oh no, I'm down to one life, and everyone else has two. Ok, I better play it cool and smart, gotta pick my spots very carefu-... oh, nevermind. A guy is using his Level 3 so I may as well just put the controller down and watch the 'kill everything cinematic'."

I'm really worried about this too. Seems unfair that you can't exactly stop this from happening, though they did say ALL supers are avoidable, with some pick ups shielding u from getting KO'd. It was OK seeing just Parappa have it, but now there's like 3 characters that all have it. They better be balanced right, I suppose it makes throws a viable strategy to keep these characters from reaching level 3.

She could have a really interesting playstyle and her supers are no-brainers. I hope she is seriously considered for DLC or a sequel if she doesn't make the cut this time.

A Gravity Rush stage would probably be crazy as well.

May buy this party game just for Toro. But knowing how Sony Japan treats Toro worldwide, expect Toro to not make it in. :(

You mean they will cut him again even after showing him including his 3 stances in exhibition games?

LOL I can not believe people are complaining about Heiachi

He makes the MOST sense as a pick from Tekken

Why? Because he was one of the very few characters that have been in EVERY FRIGGIN TEKKEN GAME! Other options would have been the likes of King and ...panda? Not sure who else. Given the nature of this game Heiachi fits it perfectly!

I swear man, some of you will complain no matter what they do. So far Superbot had brought out 10 or so characters from 10 'different' franchises and all characters have distinct play styles that reflect their games perfectly. I do not want to see clone characters just for the sake of increasing the numbers.

I was really hoping that Ryu would of been revealed at EVO and not Heihachi. Hopefully he can still make it in the game, though Heihachi kinda fills his role. He might be a paid for DLC character. I'm expecting the more expensive characters to license will have to be DLC. I'm sure most of them are free to license as its free marketing for that respective franchise, but some characters like Ryu dont need marketing.

What are you talking about? Hes already confirmed to be in the game.

edit: who is that who transformed into a bear/is a bear in the Heihachi reveal video?

Is it just me that don't mind that it isn't Uncharted level of graphical fidelity? Btw, is it confirmed that the game runs at 1080p or do they just refer to the output? (Most likely the latter but the new trailers are in 1080p).
PlayStation All-stars Battle Royale is a crossover brawler style fighting game featuring over 20 first, and third party characters famous from a range of game franchises. Additional features include, tournaments, rivalries, an award system designed to encourage competition, full 1080p HD output, a range of different PlayStation themed play environments, and full PlayStation trophy support.
