Epic's Fortnite: first game to use Unreal Engine 4 (PC) [Up3: Panel Video (down)]

StudioTan

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
Like many here I am pretty disappointed with the graphics here, especially if you compare it to current gen graphics. I would expect a "next gen" game to have at least 50% more graphics than what we have seen previously. Instead this looks like it's only 10% more graphics, if that.

I think if Epic want to impress us they really need to be showing us a lot more graphics than they are showing with this game. Will not buy.

Kidding, looks awesome. Love the lighting.

I think it looks fantastic visually. No clue how well it plays, but it will look amazing on my 1440p screen.

Gameplay looks good. Visually, might not look "next gen" but having dynamic lighting in what looks to be massive worlds means it's pushing some tech barriers.

But I don't like that the night doesn't feel like night. Night should be black, not grey. Give me total rich blackness that's only lit up by flickering streetlights and fireflies. Make me use a flashlight to see the monsters coming at me.

So my main complaint is the artistic direction, not the tech. It did look amazing in parts but overall looks a bit drab.

But gameplay sounds amazing and that's what matters

Are they making a UE3 version of this too??

I have no idea when I'm going to be able to have the PC that will run UE4 yet..

Lost all credibility.
If this is a more structured version of Minecraft (like with missions, maybe some sort of character advancement) and fun for singleplayer I could see myself getting into it.

The editing system is so good!
unreal engine 4 as well, the lighting/shadow effects look pretty amazing.

And the castle/house they showed at the end boggles my mind!

id like there to be some sort of threat during the day gathering without being engaged by enemies like in terraria would get dull but other wise the game looks great from those videos

Is there any way to download it? My internet is shitty right now and buffering takes forever ;\
I cant login on my old GT account and dont even see an option for downloading ... Hate new site.

Looks like the video is down now, I'm getting 404 error. If they eventually post it again, try their youtube channel if you don't want to hassle with their site, they post all videos there with some delay.

Wasn't too impressed by the screenshots, but the blueprint building in the video looks great. Looks like it allows for creative building. Reminded me a bit of Theme Hospital how you're able to place windows where you want. Along with scavenging and defending I can see this being a very fun co-op game.

And yeah video link isn't working anymore.

It's targeted for 2013. Whether it's early or late 2013 is a good question.

I'd expect first half 2013 for PC and around launch for the next-gen consoles which they kind of hinted at.

That's not too bad. Hopefully they feed up trailers and gameplay till then.

I get that it's on UE4 but do you guys think that the minimum requirements will actually end up being pretty low? From the look of the game it seems like something that would scale pretty well.

Grr. I didn't even realize there was a video till I saw the updated title stating it was taken down.

I can only imagine how amazing that looks in 3D. Although I'd hate to see what kind of rig you'd need to pull it off.

I think the main reason it's using UE4 is due to the vastly improved production pipeline.

I thought the video looked really nice. Quite clear Minecraft inspiration but still very unique and quirky. Particularly enjoyed how seamless the transitions were from picking something to build to it being constructed. Visually very impressive as well.

And this game looks like something that you couldn't do on the current systems. In the pics I see big environments, GI, AO and the diffuse textures look like they are 2048 in size.
