Obviously some people have astronomically ridiculous expectations. But. But there is no secret Nintendo announces and releases almost double the games in Japan than it does world wide. Therefore, the Japanese Nintendo direct will absolutely have some new games. Of those new games, either we get lucky and see them at a later point, or never at all.

The main issue at this point is when? You figure JP gets it first (almost everything Nintendo does comes out there before anywhere else.) If they don't announce anything until August 21st, when does the system come out in JP (and by extension everywhere else?)

What, mid-late November in JP and US after that? I certainly hope not, would be much better if we had early October for JP and late October/early November for US. God help us if we get another *%*&%^&*^###@ last week of November launch in the US. I absolutely HATE those.

The main issue I have with the thinness of what we know is coming out in Japan is that launch is coming up this Fall. I'd much, much prefer it be sooner than later so I don't have to deal with artificial holiday price inflation and scores of jackasses just to buy a video game system. Plus I prefer to spend my holiday dollars on my family, not me.

I think I'll do either Rayman Legends or ZombiU next.

I'm very possibly being too optimistic, but logic tells me Japanese 3rd party support will be better than from the West.

Nintendo has a lot better relationships with Japanese companies (duh) and the market is very different.

I assume Japanese 3rd parties generally had dev kits longer than Western 3rd parties, maybe with the exception of Ubisoft.

Japanese support has to be better and make up the bulk of the third party support or Nintendo is screwed. That should be clear and was most likely always going to be the case. A repeat of the Wii isn't going to happen for a number of reasons so Nintendo has to make sure both of their markets are satisfied or Nintendo will lose that core side to the PS4/720 the same way a lot picked up PS3s and 360s and only stuck with the Wii for Mario and Zelda at the end. This is going to actually suck for non-Japanese audiences in the end I think and will be a repeat of the 3DS where there is going to be a significant delay between the Japanese and non-Japanese releases. It's going to be really felt do to the weak western support, especially during that first year.

Which is why it's looking more and more that if one is interested in a lot of core games specifically (Nintendo or from other Japanese developers) then buying the system at launch might not be worthwhile at all. Might be better to wait until the holiday of 2013 or the spring/summer of 2013 at the earliest. Then pick up the launch games on the cheap they might be interested in. It's looking more and more like that might be the direction I go in as I do not feel confident that there will be enough games outside of one or two launch games that will keep me satisfied with the system until the end of next year. Even the thought playing old Wii games does nothing for me since they won't look any better.

I certainly don't expect any games to be announced for the western market (from Japanese or western developers) from any Nintendo Direct going forward. I do expect Japanese games for the Japanese market with no hint of them coming west to be announced.

I don't like this but lately I've been wondering if I should just focus on the 360 or wait for the next Xbox so I don't have to worry about support. A western console as a US customer. I've never looked at it that way before and just focused on games I just enjoyed but support is increasing becoming a significant factor and wonder if I should start looking at things from the perspective.

What about Rayman and Pikmin gifs? I'm really hoping the next Rayman has some sort of leaderboard support, Origins needed it bad.

What we need right now, for pure hype, and it feeds into the online info cravings is a new Smash teaser. Show us a little of what Bamco's been cooking!

What is the latest scuttlebut on the CPU?
Last i heard, rumors were of a developement of PPC476FP with 3-4 cores and only 1 thread per core at 1.6GHz.
Has that been discredited yet?

What rumors? From what source?

The only rumor I ever heard was the CPU being a tri-core running at 3.0Ghz.

Hello! :D

get out of here while you still can, otherwise you'll get sucked in just like the rest of us :p

He's already hooked. I'm surprised he's been away this long.

Ok thanks, but i guess rumors and speculations are all we going to have.
I was just wondering if later dev rumours had killed that speculation.

So what do you all think about that new rumor about AC3 and B:AC being (Or will be) 1080p native at a framerate above 30fps according to that Gfaqs user who went to a WiiU event (Said he was told by the main rep)?

In that topic another user confirmed that the initial one did go to the event and he/she was there as well (He/she also took photos).

I think the rep who told him typically didn't know the actual resolution the game was displaying in. For a lot of people "displaying in high definition" is easily confused as "displaying on 1080p", as 1080p is generally the resolution marketed as HD. Plus the Wii U technically outputs at 1080p, and it may have technically been playing on a 1080p screen (thus upscaled).

Until the developers specify that the game natively renders in 1080p, I will by default assume all games are running in 720p, with the exception of the most simple (eg: Scribblenauts).

I think people expecting megaton announcements at these Nintendo Directs need to get their expectations in check, you are in my humble opinion just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Nintendo have said many times this year that they are all about 'Launch day / window software', until the system launches all we will see are the same games we have already seen.

The next Nintendo Direct will focus on the other half of the OS, the online infrastructure and the Eshop i think, if there is one more after the console launches we may see some announcements of cross platform games or partnerships but people expecting to see even Starfox or F Zero nevermind EAD Mario, Metroid, Zelda or Retro's game revealed are living in cloud cuckoo land imo.

.

The next Nintendo Direct will obviously talk about the release of Wii U (when it's coming and how much will it cost). This "event" will be worldwide. Each regions will have their Nintendo Direct. Megaton could come on Nintendo Direct. I really don't think E3 is so big anymore. Of course, the big games will be reveal there. But after that? Nintendo doesn't go on TGS and Gamecom. You need something to reveal more things. That's what Nintendo Direct come. So no, I don't expect much on these things but possibility to have some scoop is here.

Where and how the information will be presented is still unknown, but what has been said about announcing titles aimed at the Japanese audience during this time leads me to believe that the conference will be held in Japan (probably in Tokyo, as with the Nintendo World events). However, there's also a chance of this being something similar to the Wii preview event held on the 14th of September, 2006, in New York City. There the MSRP as well as the launch SKU were revealed, and I think the launch lineup was revealed also. Some games including The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess were playable, but I don't think any new games were revealed.

Apart from Aliens: Colonial Marines and Rayman Legends, all upcoming Wii U games are marked for launch window or holiday (which in my opinion ought to be the same). I wonder if Nintendo will show all of these titles plus more at the upcoming conference, or if there will only be a select few of already announced titles with more focus on entirely new experiences. To fit in 32+ titles together with information about price, launch, online connectivity and much much more I think would require a bit more than just an hour. So the format of this is very interesting. Will it perhaps be a collection of different distribution ways, Nintendo Direct + regular conference etc.? It will also be cool to see if Nintendo will be able to communicate to the public what Wii U actually is, to convince casuals that it's more than just an add-on to Wii.

Keep in mind when the Wii was revealed at E3, they showed off games beyond launch lineup unlike WiiU. So this Sept. they well show off games beyond launch lineup since they didnt do it at E3.

P-100 looks more like the type of game I thought Platinum would be making more of when they formed. Of course I love Bayonetta so I'm not complaining but it's nice to see stuff like P-100.

I have been saying this a lot but Nintendo is gonna make a huge mistake if they release WiiU on Nov 18th, its just gonna kill software sales for a lot of 3rd party games, and who are gonna get blamed US.

1. If they try to put out too many games at launch a lot of games are just gonna go over looked and only the bigger games will get good sales.

2. If they try to spread it, then you just missed Black Friday for over half you games and lost out on a lot of 3rd party game sales.

3. Games like AC3, COD BO2 and others will just be coming out way late after the other consoles and many people will not wait, more sales lost.

Best thing for Nintendo to do is release WiiU in NOA at least Sunday Oct 21st, now you have it out right before the big Holiday rush with plenty of time to spread games out and get games like AC3 day and date on Oct. 30th. Also you can launch with NSMBU, then for Nov 18th Pikmin 3.

WiiU will get great sales launch day and after a lot of word of mouth the black Friday crowd will jump in and buy.

I just hope the WiiU covers (boxes) aren't as bland as the Wii ones, or straight copies like DS to 3DS. Especially getting sick of all the white.

I'm hoping for no boxes at all, I want all the games to be available day 1 as download. And hopefully Nintendo's got a good bittorrent service built-into the Wii-U store so things can download megaquick like Blizzard games/patches do.

As much as I want an early release, I've accepted that it will most likely drop in November. I think the date only affects multiplatform titles that will release before, and I definitely agree that it will only hurt Nintendo if Wii U releases after those games release on other platforms. After the 3DS launch, however, I don't think Nintendo will hold back any titles to give third parties some attention.

Ah.

It's a beautiful monkey, I must say

There's actually a reason for that monkey being the basis of ThunderMonkey.

I was a young teen at the zoo, going through the Brazilian rainforest section wearing a bright orange shirt. A Golden Lion Tamarin rushes the cage and me, stops, reaches through and starts squeaking at me while grabbing my shirt.

As if saying: "Goddamn you're huge! How the fuck did out get out of here? DUDE GET ME OUT!"

Haha, wow, that's an interesting story :p

I've never had anything interesting happen to me at zoos. :/

I think the Wii U will launch in the third week of October as you say (almost exactly 3 months away !).

A lot of people saw a large number of big name games being delayed until first quarter 2013 and automatically thought they were running from Blops 2, MoH 2 and Halo 4, i think the main reason they were pushed back until 2013 was the launch of the Wii U.

When you think how many people are going to drop $400 + on the consoles and at least two launch games, most people won't have money for many more games at the end of the year.

If the Wii U is getting Blops 2 then i think they have to be to market before the games launch (November 13th) or they risk people just picking it up on PS3 or Xbox 360 while they wait on the console launching.

I also don't think they want to launch only a week or two before Black Friday as they want enough stock to meet demand on that day, if they launch in the third week of October then they can sell out and resupply just in time for it.

13 to 29....

How much growth happened in that period or how big was that shirt?

I was a really really fat kid. I'm actually only a few pounds heavier now than I was at 13. My heaviest was approaching 300lbs at 19. I'm currently 215lbs.

Well, that's a shame. Any specific reason why?

None in particular. Just decided I didn't need that shirt anymore. I'll always have the memories tied to it.

I would like to hear more about this 1080p 30fps rumor on AC3 & Batman, but I too am afraid that it's just a Nintendo rep at the event that referred to HD being 1080p and not the actual games on Wii U. Reggie did the same thing.....

Nintendo wouldnt have to hold back anything if it came out earlier, NSMBU and Nintendoland will be there at launch, and then Pikmin 3 and Wii Fit U can be there for the big Holiday games, then Dec. you have Game and Wario as the in house 1st party WiiU games.

I know some of you aren't the biggest IGN fans

From what's left, Peer Schneider is good. He's still there, right? Head of the gaming side or something like that?

This would be a cool box cover...

I'd buy it for Wind Waker, but I've played TP twice now (GC and Wii) and don't want to play it again. Still trying to trudge through Skyward Sword. Some of the worst designed puzzles without good hints that I've seen in a Zelda game. Series needs a reboot ASAP.

That would be a little nice to have. I only have 720 so would prefer more sexiness, but if th machine can do 1080 then why not, for the sake of a few lines of code.
