Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Dishonored Dev talks about the Wii U. Be warned, it's depressing, predictable news.

GI: Dishonored is not being announced for Wii U, but as a designer of hardcore games what do you think of Nintendo's new console?

Harvey Smith: It's always felt a little outside my expertise to say. When the Wii came out, it was interesting and I'm glad they did that. A lot of people had fun with the tennis and darts or whatever, but my thinking has always been the more I can forget the interface, the more I can get in the game. That interface reminds me that I'm struggling. Maybe they'll have a better fix this time around, but I don't have an informed opinion really because it feels like something outside of what I want to do.

We have strong advocates inside the team for PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC. We want to do those right and we know where our audience is. That's not to say in the future that we won't explore or experiment with some of these new devices. When a new device comes out, that's a very fertile ground for exploring new ideas. Nintendo deserves accolades for that. I just don't know how far the new console goes. I didn't perceive what people's excitement of the device was. I don't know why, but it didn't show up on my filter somehow.

My personal opinion is people respond to games and specifically about something within the game. This is nerdy, but if they hear the way the AI listens or sees, that its perception is not scripted, gamers respond to that. If you can do something that hasn't been done before, like possess a rat or fish or control traffic lights in a city, they respond to that. That's what trends. I personally don't have the focus on hardware or UI devices as much.

The reason why he feels that way isn't because motion controls didn't work. Its because they didn't work 100% of the time. Those who played SS know very well what I'm talking about. Whenever you have a pretty lengthy session where the controls work for you, the entire idea behind the Wiimote comes to light and it shows exactly why the Wiimote could and should be a superior control method to pretty much any genre (other than fighting games, that is). But as soon as the controller misreads a gesture, its over. In the back of your mind you will always wonder if the controls will work for you when you really need them, you just can't trust the controls.

For me, it took a lot of practice to understand how the game behaves for me to finally understand and enjoy it to the fullest, but there are those that won't give it the same chance I did, and that, IMO, is the Wiimote's biggest problem.

That said, since the problem has already been identified. A new, improved Wiimote could have elevated all this nonsense and finally showed the true potential of Motion controls.. but eh...

The trouble is, as others have said, the other formats version of Darksiders II is coming out soon. A lot of people won't want to double dip. If there's something major about the Wii U version they're not allowed to tell us, they'd do well to mention it now.

Reggie: Well-well look. I already told you: I deal with the god damn customers so the engineers don't have to. I have people skills; I am good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?

LOL I like this summary of events. Certainly feels like this.

Looks like September is going to be Wii U month since Nintendo isn't going to release the 3DS XL in August, and at the same time, blow the Wii U information out of the cannon. So that leaves 2 months of Wii U focus before launch......I think it might actually be a good plan since Nintendo will be showing off a ton of Wii U games and then they will be released shortly after that.

A win win?

I think since they are all launch titles with a limited user base, 500k for ZombiU, BLOPS2 & AC3 would be acceptable for Ubisoft and Activision. I could see BLOPS2 getting close to a million but I think it's asking a bit much.

After Ubisoft revealed that their budget is going to be pretty low on Wii U ports, they could be making some really good money at launch.

I'm convinced that ZombiU is going to shift over 1m units not to far after launch. Think Red Steel sales and then some. It's going to get an absolute shitload of marketing from Ubisoft and I'd put good money on ZombiU being one of the select few titles that Nintendo are going to match marketing money for.

Assassins Creed 3, Arkham City, BlOps 2 and Darksiders 2 should do okay but the other hardcore title I can see selling like hotcakes is Aliens Colonial Marines.

The U is going to have 4 system sellers imo - NSMB U, Lego City Undercover, ZombiU and Aliens Colonial Marines. 3 at launch and 1 in the launch window.

You're going to have more than a few executives from publishers kicking themselves when they realise how much money Ubisoft are making after showing strong support to a Nintendo console launching with a 2D Mario game. The console is going to sell gangbusters. Supporting any reasonably priced console at launch isn't much of a gamble tbh, if you release even a half decent game with decent marketing you'll make money on it due to there not being a great deal of competition.

To be fair that "I feel like a purple Pikmin" line at E3 was incredible :lol

This whole thing is pretty funny, but also unfair.

Just first party:

- NSMBU
- Pikmin 3
- NintendoLand
- Wii Fit U
- Game & Wario
- Lego City Undercover (published by Nintendo)
- Project P-100 (published by Nintendo)

- Miiverse
- Updated gamepad

I would cry glorious tears of joy if all of those were announced. Hell just for a new Earthbound alone I would pay 599 for the console day one.

I try not to fantasize about things like this. It makes reality a bitter pill to swallow. E3 2010 was pretty great, though, Skyward Sword hiccups aside. Everyone just seemed suave, comfortable, and charming. E3 2012 felt forced and awkward with the lines.

For this lineup I would let them take my house lol

wth is RE6 doing in a dream list? Game will be an even bigger insult than RE5.

But the only things that really were new from these are Project P-100 and arguably one of the worst looking Wario games ever made. (Though just like Nintendoland, the Wario game really just is a compilation of tech demos that were also already shown a year ago)

Ha, I created this a while ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1r7SvNT6VSk

If they could just say something. To frequently get weird answers from developers telling they are unauthorized to talk about their games is just crazy. It's like Nintendo is afraid of something, I don't remember a radio silence this great between E3 2006 and Wii's release the same year.

I suppose people just expected something on the scale of E3 2006, especially after Nintendo's year-long silence. Reggie sounded much better at E3 2006. The message and the potential of Wii was so great. It was an easy sell, and Nintendo pulled it off brilliantly.

Conversely, Wii U is a bit harder to showcase. Judging by that Luigi's Ghost Mansion demonstration, that was pretty apparent. However, Nintendo could have sold the audience on Wii U much better than they did. I understand they focused on launch games, but I don't agree with that decision.

I think Wii U's launch line-up is stronger than Wii's, but the actual conference was pretty weak.

If everyone else can openly talk about your system, what do you have left to surprise people with?

That was E3's real problem. Nintendo made some great game announcements, but we already knew they were coming. If it was all kept on the downlow, people would have blown a gasket at Pikmin 3. Instead it was "Yeah, we knew Pikmin 3 was coming - what else is there?"
