Does this mean it could take Billboard #1's spot? If she gets 7 number ones from the Teenage Dream era that's just amazing.

It could happen. The battle for next week's #1 is between Katy and Flo Rida. Katy has the radio crown and Flo Rida has the digital crown.

At this point I really can't say who will take it tbh...

Ellie Goulding's Anything Could Happen is sooooooo darn good!

Even though I like Wide awake I want Lights to hit número UNO.
I agree. Lights is a very good song, and deserves to be #1.

Dark Side will smash do well enough in autumn like Already Gone, tbh
Hopefully. Radio not feeling the love for Dark Side makes me sad. Get with it radio! Also, since you mentioned it, Already Gone should have smashed and spent weeks at #1. It was, and still is, flawless.

Mariah Carey's Comeback Has Been Less Than 'Triumphant'

It’s ironic that Mariah Carey‘s comeback single is called "Triumphant,” as the pop diva's new track doesn't quite live up to its name, bombing on the radio and dropping to No. 50 in iTunes. In fact, Mariah's big comeback is looking rocky.

“I think it’s really hard to get on Top 40 radio when you are over 40,” one top radio host tells me. “She’s trying to get street cred by having rappers on the song but it isn’t working. What’s really concerning her team is that most superstars' singles get in the top 10 on iTunes within the first days, just out of curiosity. It’s not like people are listening to the song and deciding they don’t like it; [with Mariah] they are not even listening.”

I think it was a mistake releasing the song before she got on 'Idol',” says Carolina Bermudez, who just left radio station Z100 to join CBS' "The Couch." “If radio isn’t playing it, then that’s a problem.”

I found this article to be interesting and thought I should share it

I don't think AI would've made a big difference for the single.
Agreed.

It seems that chart success nowadays is only achieved by unleashing a legitimately great song (ex. Lights) or a song so ungodly bad that it somehow becomes irresistible (ex. everything else in the Top 10). Utter mediocrity such as Triumphant is not good music, but not bad enough to become a guilty pleasure earworm.

It's coming out in US in October too. Same label as Gaga too. Collab?

How much has Lights sold in America?

Yeah, I was just poking fun at the fact that it took a while for "Lights" (the single) to have the popularity it has now in the US.

According to Wikipedia the album has sold 1.3 million worldwide and most of the sales come from the UK (850,000).

I think there were a lot of problems. The lack of build-up / hype, the fact that it just was a poorly produced song, the fact that the song's lyrics were cringe-inducing-insipid and not entertainingly-insipid, the fact that the rappers took up far too much of the song (even though not as much as suspected), the fact that the song was so urban and they failed to have pop ready remixes available, the fact that she's over 40 and hasn't been a radio it girl since 2007, etc.

She needed something great, and she came out with something subpar... with some pretty great remixes.

It's a week choice for a comeback single. Especially the main version.

Though who knows if Idol will even help. It didn't help JLo that much. Sure she had a hit single but everything was a flop.

Actually, Idol revitalized J. Lo's career, and media relevance.

I don't think Mariah will ever again achieve the level of chart success she deserves. Dupri's creative well is totally dry and she doesn't recognize that, and I think it'd take another Afanasieff-level falling out for her to seek a new direction musically.

But of all my faves, Mariah's chart success least concerns me. No matter what, she'll always be able to make new music, work with whomever she wants, and achieve her artistic goals without compromise or constraint. The same can't be said for most.

I think promotion for Halcyon in the US will be much stronger. The label probably wants to capitalize on the Lights single success too. We'll see. I hope the album is good though. Lights was a decent debut. Lights and Starry Eyed were truly great songs, but there were some weaker tracks. I can't say I'm excited about the people she's working with and those previews weren't great, but I'm hopeful.

J. Lo also had another reality show, a movie, actual promotion for the song, promotions for other products, etc. Mariah just expected to walk back into the spotlight on name alone.

...So, they forgo the strategy that worked for Emancipation, in favor of the stragey that DIDN'T work for Charmbracelet and Glitter? Ok.

Her team is missing the mark entirely.

WHO is running the show at Camp Mariah right now, because I refuse to believe it's JD when he was the one who was instrumental in Emancipation.

People don't want Mariah singles that are basically her singing the hook for two no-name rappers. It's a terrible song no matter when they would have released it.

Mariah's comeback single should have been big, classic, catchy and HER. How they missed that BASIC rubric is beyond me, honestly.

Yeah Mariah is doing next to nothing right now. I imagine she'll pick up her shit once her album has a release date? Either way with the way Memoirs and even the second Christmas album performed you'd think she'd be a little more concerned.

Is he on Mariah's level? Is he on an international level? Is he on a Billboard Hot 100 level? No, no and no.

No shade to Rick, but he ain't in that lane yet. If Mariah WAS gonna feature some rappers, they needed to be on some Jay-Z/Drake/Lil Wayne/Nas type shit. Not no DAMN Rick Ross.

Oh I agree. Just saying that he's at least somewhat well known. Meek Mill I didn't even know until I heard the song lol.
