It’s a third gold for Sega as ‘London 2012: The Official Video Game’ (-9%) holds on to No1 in the All Formats Chart for a third consecutive week.

In another quiet week for new releases with most people on holiday or watching the Olympics on TV, the top four all remain the same. In fact the Top 3 has now remained unchanged for three weeks with ‘Lego Batman 2’ (-20%) at No2 and ‘Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games’ (-9%) at No3. ‘Batman Arkham City’ (-20%) stays at No4 ahead of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ (+13%) which climbs 2 places to No5 (PC version new this week) guaranteeing a super hero/Olympics clean sweep of the Top 5.

Quote myself from another thread. An interesting - still to be confirmed - sales data for the 3DS XL in France.
Interesting. In France some Nintendo websites (Nintendo Master) are saying they received the first 3DS XL results with 36K consoles sold in 10 days which is ok/good knowing NSMB 2 isn't out yet.

It seems the 3DS XL effect is long lasting. After many months being around 20th and then, both MK7 and Super Mario 3D Land are basically in top 10 consistently ( third week for them being there). We could have three 3DS games in top 10 next week ( NSMB2, MK7 and Super Mario 3D Land; four if Mario & Sonic obtains to last a bit after Olympics. Probably it won't). Maybe, and I say MAYBE, things are changing in UK too.

Yep. In Europe for me it seems the 3DS is doing well in the 4 biggest markets (GER/FR/IT and now UK in a small way, knowing the retail situation there...). In france it's the 4th consecutive weeks we have 2 or 3 3DS titles in the top 5. I'm expecting big numbers for NSMB2.

I think saying it's doing slightly less worse than everything else is more accurate.
Spin time! ^^
Frankly, I'm not sure as your wording doesn't highlight the "up" of the situation compared to a few weeks ago. But I get your idea which is more about the retail UK market as a whole than the 3DS alone.

It's doing well, looking at charts, in Germany, France ( there it seems it's loved with great passion O_O ), Italy, Netherlands ( 5 consecutive weeks with a 3DS title at top spot and with at least 2 titles in top 3), Spain too. Now, if the trend just started in UK continues, we could say it's doing well in Europe overall.

I don't see how 3DS is doing much better in the UK. Everything still dropped which means the numbers are horrible, and the 3DS was never doing terrible in places like Germany, France, and Italy.

- Because nobody says it's doing much better in the UK. You're arguing with yourself here.
- ............ nobody says 3DS was doing terribble in GER/FR/IT. 3DS was doing ok in these countries. Now it seems to be even better.

Which tell us that overall 3DS is doing better in Europe right now.

I don't see how 3DS is doing much better in the UK. Everything still dropped which means the numbers are horrible, and the 3DS was never doing terrible in places like Germany, France, and Italy.

Let's put it in this way.

Germany / France / Italy were the places where 3DS wasn't doing terrible, not even bad as you said, but now we're seeing again games in top 5 / 10 ( and not just Mario games, with Kingdom Hearts), so it's doing even better.
In Netherlands, we had several weeks without 3DS games in top 10, or in the low positions. Now, we had 5 consecutive weeks with:
1)A 3DS title first
2)At least 2 3DS titles in top 3 (the KH week had 3 3DS titles in top 3)
Another improvement

And now, UK. The worst territory for 3DS BY FAR, with Mario titles in top 20 when there were some Holiday like Easter or just after the end of school. Now, we're seeing those titles in top 10 or just outside it, even with an improvement compared to XL's debut week. Sure, numbers are low in UK, but it would have been certainly worst if those titles weren't in top 10, but top 20 or even top 30 like it was happening earlier, no? The fact 3DS titles obtained to be pretty high for three consecutive weeks mean that something is changing, maybe. And the situation is certainly improved.

So, overall, 3DS has passed from doing ok / well in many territories and bad in UK to doing well / more than just well and good/well in UK. The improvement is present, and it's lasting, which is by far the most important thing.

Ah, ah!
...And M&S 3DS in top 10 in Italy? Wut?

EDIT: Seeing Gamona charts, KH3D should be just out of the top 10

http://www.gamona.de/pc-charts

http://www.gamona.de/konsolen-charts

The problem is that all the numbers of the top 40 are horrible since they all keep dropping. So for 3DS to have titles in the top 10 doesn't mean it's not doing terribly anymore. It's still doing terribly along with the rest of everything else. And France has certainly had a 3DS heavy top 5 before. We need to wait at least a month to see if there is a sustained effect.

Wait, so KH3D didn't bomba?!

Well everything is a bomba in the UK these days, but in comparison with the rest of the series it didn't do that bad.

We're already three weeks in with XL, and the effect is not disappearing. And then, next week NSMB2 is released, so of course 3DS XL's effects in the long run will be "enhanced" for some weeks, with a very sensible alteration of trends.

Without sale number. Kind of pointless to work out the 3DS has improve, steady or worse on this week.
For example the individual chart show the game's position has risen but the sale dropped from last week. The sale % change from last week always use all formats, sometime it's hard to compare on individual chart.

Yeah which is why I think getting excited about 3DS games moving up in position a little early with everything selling so horribly.

Then, I'm guessing TW numbers are different?

Thanks for posting the updates. The saddest thing about the collapse of the UK market is MCV not having a free edition anymore.

Yep, I fixed the post. Thanks, Road!

Yeah, I decided to just bite the bullet and subscribe. I figure it's part of what I do now.

Urgh about the worst week ever for sales in UK :( I'm wondering when thing could improve ( talking about no Holiday weeks), it just seems there's no way out. Seriously, it's time to take some action since, IIRC, it's the whole retail market in Uk decreasing due to high prices, no?

However, if 3DS games were still at 20th positions, it'd been so worst for the platform. Since those games are very high instead, this means 3DS is certainly doing better than before, better than it would have done without the XL. Otherwise, those games wouldn't be in top 10 now, they would've stayed under the 20th - 30th positions, meaning the hardware hadn't improve at all.

It means the 3DS XL did nothing for the market at all. A brand new revision launch like this should not be the worst 2 weeks on record. 3DS is doing "better", but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean crap since spot 25 and 10 are probably separated by like 2-3k.

10 (07) [WII] Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games (Sega)

Remember: Netherlands Charts go from the Friday of the precedent week to the Thursday of the current week. Only a few games obtain to appear in top 10 before their actual release, and usually that's a pretty good sign for things to come. For example, Call of Duty games appear before their release, always in the first positions. And now, NSMB2. But I'm VERY surprised to see Sleeping Dogs too: it's a sign the titile will do pretty well.

And this is the 6th consecutive week with a 3DS title topping the charts, and the second time the top 3 is all 3DS.

Ah that's explaining of the rising position but sale drop that confused me lot. Actually everything in the chart so fucking bad.

UK has quite bad recession, but I think it is more likely game culture has changed. Lot of UK people nowadays use smartphone/tablet and move away from console/handheld. (I hope I will be wrong when all three next gen consoles out)

Now that I think about it, we can try understand the importance of UK in the overall European performance right now...maybe

The week before 3DS XL: 5k in UK, 38k in Europe -- 13,15% of the overall sales came from UK
The 3DS XL week: around 15k in UK, 92k in Europe -- 16,3% of the overall sales came from UK

What about the past, even recent.

3DS launch week: around 100k in UK, 303k in Europe -- 33%
Wii launch week: 105k in UK, 325k in Europe -- 32,3%
PS3 launch week: 160k in UK, 600k in Europe -- 26,66%
