Ah, the early '90s. Tim Burton had not yet descended to self-parody, the idea of "cool" was never ironic, and anime was some amazing, secret promised land of animation whispered about in hushed conversations.

The Light of El Cantare
Glass Fleet: Legend of the Wind of the Universe 02:

- Elizabethan ruffs used as LEGWEAR
- meido PAWNCH
- genki hooker pirate girls
- the wind weeps
- space catholic hindu scarecrow pizza-hat pope
- Ralph is weapons-grade boy moe
- stagecoach pederasty
- DRAMATIC HARMONICA CATCHING.

The gifs are just the tip of the iceberg. This is a mishmash of every conceit ever employed in the space opera genre taken to their logical extremes and completely debased of all dignity at the crossroads of Gonzo's lack of restraint, lack of talent, and penchant for the inhumanly fucking garish. Amazing.

The show doesn't even get stupid until the halfway point.

You're in for quite a ride.

Well no, that's not true. The show is a parade of stupid from the very beginning. It's just that the interconnected imbicility that encompasses the greater plot does not become clear until much later.

yesssssssssssssssss

The costume design(and everything design, really) in Glass Fleet stands out in a way that is truly unique for anime.

I look at it all, and I refuse to believe that it all could have come about simply as a result of incompetence or the mere failure to successfully "futurize" the Renaissance aesthetic. This surely must be someone's brilliant, mad, and completely deliberate masterpiece. There's a consistent vision running through everything.

it wasn't that bad. it dropped at the beginning, and stayed consistent here.

And i've watched Working, it isn't THAT different.

But yeah, i do wonder if producer-san is drinking when he's off camera. His job isn't much different than being a special ed teacher eh?

Don't worry, Producer-san gets to the good idorus like Haruka, Miki, Hibiki, and Iori later. Right now he's spending pity time with the bad idorus!

Yeah, although when they first started, Jackson would do his fake Egyptian thing over and over again. "Chuppai... we call it the "Stargate"". lol
Of course, SG-1 basically got put in a difficult position after they got bigger and started doing stories about trying to tell other worlds how to handle their affairs. In Star Trek land, I suppose it makes sense for humans to tell people what to do, but given that the SGC represented America and no other country, it was silly.

Yeah, that bothered me too. I only saw the first few episodes of Atlantis but it seemed like they tried to rectify that point a little with having the team made up of people from different countries.

SG1 was ten seasons long and starting at about the seventh season I think it was, there was talks of the show being cancelled so they tried to wrap up the story but then it went for another season. That caused the story to come across as pretty awkward in those lost few seasons too.

Well, it's just that there's no other real reason she's going on a diet. Unless she really does have a secret boyfriend anyway. lol

I'll say that Otona Joshi is nothing particularly special. It's about a woman deciding to divorce her husband and doesn't get more complicated than that, but again, you barely have adult characters in anime... let alone realistic ones.

Well, I couldn't come up with any other reasons.

I think that was also why I liked Fate/Zero so much in that most of the cast was more adult. I know the Japanese like their coming of age stories and that's fine but they could have more characters in university or something. There's still lot's you can learn and grow from at that age and point of time. If K-On! can do it others can too!

Sword Art Online 04
With the way she reacted I was starting to think she hooked her cat up to into the damn game or some shit.

I CAN'T STOP WALKING INTO ALL THESE CONVENIENT TENTACLE TRAPS

Sword Art Online 05
Wat

The look on her face (a few frames after this, couldn't get a good shot) right before they mentioned
it was someone from the guild made me think SHEDIDITSHEDIDITSHEDIDIT

Actually, SG-1 was on the verge of cancellation starting with season 5. The only time they "went for it" with a cliffhanger ending was season 10... which was when they got canned. Go figure.

I do find it funny that on Atlantis, the most important guy was a Canadian. lol

I guess for me, they're adults in a fantasy world though. Like, Jormungand has nearly an all adult cast as well, but very few people are dealing with the massacre of their military unit or ex-mafia guys or whatever the backstory is for the other characters.

The only anime that I can think of about adults in the real world are all noitaminA shows. (Yes, I count Ristorante Paradiso in that group, duckroll :p)

Oh, and I suppose those BL shows centered around the Sekai-ichii Hatsukoi franchise. But they're not real human beings either. lol

It's weird. I don't really like Modern Family any more, but if there was an anime that tried to do the exact same thing, it'd probably be my favourite thing ever. lol
Like, what if an older Japanese divorcee married a Filipino woman and had to remember how to be a father again because she was a single mother? What would his kids think about the marriage? What if one of his kids were gay? I'd be happy if an anime even gestured at doing something a bit more socially aware even off handedly.

(Of course, the answer is that I should watch more jdrama because that's where all the adult stuff goes. But I really don't want to do that. :p)

Since there are no dudes, it's the only way.
Heh, I watched a couple episodes of Sengoku Otome just to compare it to Oda Nobuna. When the girl asks how a world with all women could produce children, the answer was literally storks. They've got the all yuri world planned and ready to go. :p

Yuru Yuri 3:

All together now!

yuri yurararara yuruyuri
yuri yurararara yuruyuri
yuri yurararara yuruyuri

Set yuri level to maximum! Maximum yuri! Yes! More yuri! MORE! MORE!!

Apparently in the saki world they can use genetic engineering for lesbian couples.

A fun SAO 3 thing (is an episode spoiler)

This song + anime clips need to make a comeback. It'll be like the 90's DBZ videos all over again.

Between this and that one scene in Accel world about MMOs ending I think the author might actually have some sort of bizarre emotional connection with NPC'.
The suspense of disbelief for this show is incredible.

People screaming while fighting despite the fact that it was confirmed in episode 1 that players don't feel pain. I'm not even sure if eating or sleeping serve a purpose outside of replenishing health or something.

Maturity, bitches.
JAL did, if that's what you are asking.

Well there goes that business proposition.

Hype trains don't run on fuel, they run on HOPE AND DREAMS! ;_;
You clearly need to look at the engines of Nintendo Hype Trains. Pretty sure they require blood sacrifices.

....

*throws away goggles*

*checks heart rate*
You still require goggles? I am disappointed.

ANIME CULTURE
Well there goes my other business proposition of opening a Maid Cafe in London.

Zelda Hype Trains require the blood of a thousand maidens. Just look at what happened with 8.8-gate.

Well there goes my other business proposition of opening a Maid Cafe in London.

It seems the one in LA has closed after being open 5 years. If you can't keep a maid cafe open in LA, you're probably hosed anywhere else in the US. Oh well.

The end of this Olympic journey i've been on:

Earth Maiden Arjuna - 01

So Juna dies, gets ressurected by Chris, who was apparently the last avatar of time, and then gives her his superpowers to save the Earth from getting tentacle-raped by having her join SEED who I have no idea what they are. Something sacrifice, but he's not cool, but crippled, telepathy.

Then they go to pretend blow up by actually blowing up a nuclear reactor, and she becomes Frieza to save the planet.

Well, I already accidentally skimmed the spoilers for these, might as well get them out of the way.
When I last left off on this series, Takahiro Sakurai had to race against a dog in a maze. Let's see if things have recovered from that low point.

Phi Brain S2 16
Nope, not yet. Complete garbage, like all the other Ana-centric episodes. Let us never speak of this again.

Phi Brain S2 17
Now that's better. A good puzzle, Sugita in fine form throughout, and some plot progression.

Phi Brain S2 18
A great return to form. Excellent puzzle vs. Sephiroth and a good cliffhanger ending. I liked
the fakeout with him seemingly being reformed but then setting off the self destruct, only to reveal that he had reformed but the ring was too powerful to resist
.

Phi Brain S2 19
And here's where most of the spoilers came from, but anyway. The 2/3 mark through the season. Lots of delicious Hiroshi Kamiya voice.
Freecell is a complete loose cannon now; a quick spot of training for Kaito and we're off to the final challenges.

Hopefully there's some good puzzles ahead in the home stretch.

Unrelated, but I think Im being made fun of on niconico for telling a Japanese man to eat a hamburger on stream.

I had to tell someone.

Arjuna really does seem like a relatively "normal" anime during the first episode.
