In short, getting WiiU launch games to look as good as end of cycle PS360 games is not a problem. Give us a little more time to figure out the new hardware and we can come up with visuals not even possible on the PS360. Thats a step in the right generation.

now you're putting words in their mouth. that's also not helpful.

Not necessarily. Like if the publisher/dev of a game dissolves, the game would likely get pulled (barring some crazy agreement where the store takes the rights in that case). On iOS there's a yearly dev fee, and if that doesn't get paid the apps from that dev will get pulled.

I read that as RETAIL stores. and with "buy online" I mean ebay, amazon and the like... it just didn't seam like a rational thought that because someone can't buy the Wii U at launch, they have to fear that the game is "gone" when they eventually get around to buying one. that's crazy!

But of course, digital distribution is a horrible idea as the only way to get media because of the reason you cited. I HIGHLY doubt any Wii U downloadable game will be in that situation that early. Also, Trine 2 is an indie game so the potential for trouble in that regard is pretty tiny. Only a very small number of niche games or licensed games disappeared from download services this gen. No reason to panic.

It happened to me once a few years ago. I couldn't get a game when it launched, and when I tried to find it later it was gone. For the record, I don't like buying used games so that takes away eBay and the like.

With sound design being such a major component of modern games, I can understand the reluctance to include custom soundtracks. The only games I can really see a use are arcade fighting games, racing, and sports games. And even then I think the devs would rather you listen to the tracks they paid to license or were paid to showcase.

Wow at Eurogamer article HAHA
I've already read IGN interview a couple of days ago, when I reported here the first info about Sonic all star Wii U version: I didn't mention the fact that they said that Wii U is able to do some tricks not allowed by PS360, because I was way more interested in Wii U gamepad integration, honestly...

But, what about direct feed videos of the Wii U version? Why neither IGN nor Eurogamer uploaded them?

Project Cars Wii U imagines? :O.

Well, Nintendo has an excellent opportunity to create much needed hype should they decide to air the next Nintendo Direct broadcast in close connection to GameStop EXPO 2012. The expo begins on the 29th of August, that's a Wednesday in about two weeks.

With marketing material arriving to retail stores, it would be wise of Nintendo (of America) to increase its retail presence beginning with the GameStop event. I assume GameStop is a very important customer to Nintendo, so working together with them with an opportunity like this I don't think Reggie & Co is gonna turn down. Let's say they air the Nintendo Direct broadcast on Monday or Tuesday night, or during the show, announce a lot of juicy details (not necessarily pricing and release date) and get people eager to pre-order. Couple that with hands-on experiences and nine GameStop stores in San Antonio (where the expo takes place), could mean a hefty increase in orders for Nintendo.

Also, look at how close Nintendo's booth is to the GameStop store inside the convention center: http://www.poweruprewards.com/SiteResources/i/gsexpo/pdf/GameStopEXPO2012Floorplan.pdf

The next Nintendo Direct to premiere in that booth?

Now, I know that we shouldn't read too much into booth placements after GDC 2012, but why wouldn't they try to push their message as much as possible at this show? It's the first public North American Wii U experience after all.

Castlevania LoS 2 gets a PC version. Oh, you mean regarding Wii U ? ACHIEVEMENTS !!!

Also Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has Mii as an exclusive character for the Wii U version. That said, Rayman Legends is confirmed exclusive for Wii U (including a few new gorgeous pictures) and as usual, journalists try to spin Wii U news however they like.

I read that one of Castlevania LOS 2 guys said on twitter its not coming to the WiiU since it has Zero install base. LOL I dare a dev say that about the 720 or the PS4, Our game is coming to the WiiU since 720 and PS4 has zero install base, never gonna happen.

Good points Rosit on the Gamestop event, I could see Nintendo having the Nintendo Direct next week, clearing up a lot of things before that event starts, it would be pretty bad for something big like that to happen and Gamestop still has no clue when they can start preorders. Hopefully we have price and release date by that time too, but hey also Nintendo of Japan could care less lol.

It still makes me mad there's no Wii U version in development, the 3DS gets Mirror's of Fate but Nintendo console owners get nothing?, hopefully they bring it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!

This is what I've been trying to say all this time but couldn't find the right words!.
The FACT (because that's what it is; a fact) that launch Wii U games look as good (even better) than current gen is a good sign. Don't you guys remember how PS360 games looked at launch?

It only will get better with time.

yes, it is a good sign that the WiiU (with an different architecture) runs late PS360 games with the same graphics, but a visually more impressive WiiU game than it's current gen counter part has yet to be shown, Batman and ACIII looked identical to me at gamescom.

We don't have WiiU footage of Alien, do we?

I just want to know what BG said if the Wii U will be able to compete with the PS4 and 720's power because I really don't want to have third party support that was like from Wii.

bg compared it to a PS2vsXbox kind of scenario. I think that's being way too kind to the WiiU. Given the rumored specs I'd place it closer to somewhere between M2-Dreamcast vs Xbox/Wii. Or between an M2-DC over the N64(PS3/360).

But that means different things now than it did then. Now it will mean similar architectures, some models without the brute force power. Back then... it was the difference between coding completely in Assembly and relying on a Windows CE kernal. Now there's quite a bit of consistency in hardware and software design.

The power level of the WiiU won't hurt it from supporting at the bare minimum of the engines the next generation. It's power level can hurt it from receiving individual titles. If too much work must be dedicated to the port.

Of course not. I'm too tired right now to rant about this industry and how it really deserves to burn though.

I'm at a point where I'm mostly bitter regarding 3rd parties. All this bullshit talk about expanding the industry, about bringing new consumers in and then they shit on Nintendo. But as mentioned, I've worked too much today to get angry.

Edit:
But really, should EA ever go down I'll get a really expensive bottle of champagne and celebrate.

Edit 2:
But you know what really pisses me off even more ? How the (video game) media treats Wii U and Nintendo.

If they announce a PS4 and Xbox 720 version next year people will shove the statement in their face, I dare a dev to say "The PS4 and Xbox 720 doesn't have any install base so it's not coming".

They better say that, if they don't than I'm done being nice guy to these devs.

Oh, you mean regarding Wii U ? ACHIEVEMENTS !!!

You guys need to think this through. If a game has achievements, this does NOT automatically mean that the Wii U is going to feature system level achievements that can be viewed online by others.

Metroid Prime 3 (+Trilgoy ports), Wii Sports Resort, The Conduit, And Yet it Moves ...they all had achievements.

Does not mean ANYTHING at this point.

Stop assuming this confirms anything.

is that wii u footage?

I haven't been able to confirm that. I remember the team saying that they were able to add some visual enhancements(over consoles?) for the Wii U version, so I expect it to be one of the better looking versions.

so what looks better?

Rayman or Trine?

While Trines 2 looks really good - having seen a recent gamescom Rayman video - I was much more blown away by Rayman Legends. By the way, I don't remember seeing anyone posting any recent images so here's one:

Sadly, it's the way it'll be for a while, at least until devs and consumers have access to all the nextgen consoles and can evaluate what is and isn't worth their time.
The Wii caused a serious change in attitude towards Nintendo consoles that isn't going to disappear instantly.

It'll take some time.

I'd actually prefer Crystal Dynamics to say something like "If we did something for 720, it would have to be something that makes use of the unique capabilities of the console.", you won't hear that as well.

I'd love that hear that, devs should never say that, I don't understand what's wrong with some devs but for all we know Sony and Microsoft could be moneyhatting them not to make games for Nintendo, the industry is so weird that I wouldn't be shocked.

I agree, Nintendo did this to them selves and they are the only ones to change it, I know Nintendo wouldn't get the best third party support day 1 because Nintendo has to regain their relationships with third party's.

There is no reason to assume that any multiplatform game shows Wii U footage. The Trine 2 footage certainly wasn't. They were advertising the additional content (part of the Wii U version) that will be coming to the existing platforms so the reasonable thing to assume is that they're using PC footage which is their main platform.

Sorry for being a downer all the time but some of you get a little overexcited and read too much into some stuff.

Will I be able to easily connect WiiU to my monitor via HDMI?

The Wii U uses HDMI so there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to do that.

That Wii U is on par with PS3/360 word twist to get clicks is pretty pathetic.
It doesn't take much contorting to see it that way though.

I mean honestly. I realize the dev didn't actually say that, but it's true. The Upad will eat away resources. Nothing terribly intensive, but enough that the boost in power can be eaten away quickly. Especially if devs are rendering two disparate 3D scenes in tandem.

Thank God it has likely 3x the usable memory. That will aid in texture resolution and environmental size.

Thats Retro territory.
They might at least show what Retro is working on behind closed doors.

Haha yea Kinect 2.0 should build in to the 720, lets see if we here all of that from these devs

Twisted or not, I think a bigger - though short-term - problem may be the fact that some devs seem to be judging Wii U's power simply by how well it can run code optimized for existing consoles. I'm surprise they even manage to get the Wii U version of these games running dencently at all, especially in the timeframe they were working with. Not surprising that some CPU/physics related comments surfaced recently since the Wii U's CPU is pretty significant departure - than the GPU is - from what current-gen code is optimized for.

Anyway, in addition to the game itself (not Wii U) being on par with other versions, it's also rendering an additional scene to the gamepad, when using it as a rare-view mirror. I guess that's decent, considering that at this early stage devs have yet to really to dig deep into the hardware.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
This is a few days old, but I've only just discovered it.

Chandra Nair (@ChandraONM) , editor of the Official Nintendo Magazine tweeted this:

Keep the faith nintendo fans. You won't see much at gamescom other than ubi updates but the good stuff IS just around the corner

When someone replied the wait for info was frustrating, he replied:

frustrating for me too but there is stuff coming soon

Nice find. Please Nintendo, please show us some really cool shit. I'm happy to have my mind blown and buy another ticket for the hype train.

It's all good. There's nothing to "read into" here. This is a video showing content expected to be in the Wii U version, which last I checked, looked just as good. I never said it was Wii U footage. In fact, before posting, I was personally assuming it was PC footage until stated otherwise.

If I had never seen Wii U footage of this game before, I probably wouldn't have posted it.
It'd be like getting excited over new Project Cars videos when we have absolutely no idea how the Wii U version looks. This case is bit different, wouldn't you agree?

People believing Eurogamer's spin and ZombiU is a non-game tech demo for casuals.

I love this place.

It's a few people in that one thread who are arguing that, and its actually Clovingwestbrook who is doing most of that. He made a poorly articulated point about this being a Wii Sports like tech demo. He's right in some ways, it is a proof of concept for the WiiU but he oversimplified it to a rather big degree.

One or two people does count as "people" but it's hardly a representative sample and a few people trolling in one thread doesn't prove that Eurogamer's spin is or is not working.

Wait, are we implying that Eurogamer is somehow in charge of a Fox News esque anti WiiU campaign?

Not only did I KNOW someone would make a thread about that, even though we debunked it, I knew it would be shinobi. It's always shinobi, and what's worse, I know he knows it was debunked already, so why does he do it?

It means nothing, it could only be Nintendo revealing obvious things like system price, launch date, OS, Miiverse and stuff like that, I doubt that we are going to get "real" news as new game development, MH5 or some other megaton.
