How can you say that's not a real hammer? Plus the other guy obviously got a real shield...

As you can see in the gif, the hammer made some serious damage on his shoulder, causing him to not be able to properly grab it afterward (that's the bouncing effect you see)

Don't you guys know that Chris Hemsworth is world renowned for his method acting? He would never act with anything but a solid stone hammer.

A passionate embrace, a beautiful memory lingers.
I've seen plenty of props in my time, and that is no fucking prop dude

it looks just like the hammer in the movie

C'mon guy's. You can't believe it's real. It's not hard to carve a styrofoam block and cover it with a metallic casing or foil. It looks real but no way is it real.

With a budget of $220 MILLION you'd expect them to make a pretty good replica. No way is that a real hammer. Ffs.

Are you guys serious? It's an hollywood movie, you think they can't make a fake hammer look real?

This. Not even sarcasm can save you folks.

Tin foil and airbrushed paint.

If it was real, how come it can bounce like a lego.

Come on man, Just look at it.

You have no evidence to support your claim, the hammer is real.

EDIT: And the guy below is correct, it also has real hammer physics. I know because I've used quite a few hammers in my time.

Why would they bother when this guy can obviously handle the real thing as seen in the .gif?

EDIT: Yeah, the slow motion is probably confusing you, it's understandable.

Chances are that they had several different props of the hammer for different scenes. This is probably a lighter version compared to the ones used in other scenes, close ups, etc. not to mention all the times that the hammer is CGI.

Seriously guys. The hammer is obviously real. Look at the grimaces on Thor's face as it painfully (and realistically) hits him several times in the same place. It is so painful that I'm sure he cried afterwards.

Holy shit you guys, metal don't bounce like that and they wouldn't fucking throw a 50+ lbs hammer near this guy's face.

Of course they would. Chris Hemsworth is a goddamn pro!

Look at those pecs. Are you telling me that solid steel thrown at incredibly high speeds wouldn't bounce off that?

Its funny that even a fucking junior can see this. I'd cry too if something that heavy hit me.

And the 4th and 5th bounces?? You see how that shit just magically deflects of his arm and his fingers?

I know this is the real Thor and all, but

I can't even tell if we're joking anymore. I do know this is the funniest this thread has been in awhile.

You guys are probably trolling me, but now I'm genuinely curious. When you say that the Hammer is real what exactly do you mean, that it is made out of metal but hollow with something else in the middle, or that it is actually a massive piece of metal?

We mean it isn't a fake hammer. It's a real one. Duh.

It's the actual Mjolnir. Marvel Studios spared no expense for this film and actually hired an archaeological team to retrieve the original.

This hammer-discussion is more entertaining than any pictures posted so far.

The hammer is obviously real. I tried to do this at home, ofcourse with a smaller metal hammer (I am not as buffed as Thor) and it was easy for me to bounce it about four times.

Oh, that makes sense. I still don't know if it is made out of metal though, some of you are mentioning stone. Is it magic stone?

I was in my way to finding what was density and strength in an average person's bones to find whether or not a cube of 18Kg(Aluminum, just to start with a light metal) would break a hand. A human hand that is, that was my obvious mistake so I stopped right away.
