Sony close Studio Liverpool

Yeah sadly the futuristic racing genre in particular is pretty much dead. What's left? F-Zero? May as well be dead. Extreme G is dead. Fatal Inertia was awful.
Oh Fatal Inertia. I had no hand in that, so don't shoot me.

Someone will carry the torch and be inspired. We're lucky enough to have experienced the original. When we're playing FireTrakk in 2027 we can smile and think back to the amazing series that inspired it while our sons and daughters are simply "WHOA FUCKING SICK!!" and we'll be all "Of course you can curse, little one. We live in the future."

Don't give up hope. WipEout taught you better than that.

WipEout taught us all better than that.
Yup. This.

As niche as Futuristic Racers are, someone, sometime down the road, will make one worthy of the legacy.

If the team were to start a kickstarter project for a futuristic combat racer, I would happily fund $500, I can't even begin to estimate how many hours I sank into WipEout and continue to enjoy it, I bought a PSP and VITA almost exclusively for it...

How many studios has Sony closed before?

Also how many of the ex liverpool people will go to Evolution now?

Zipper was the mot recent shutdown. English studios have been restructered before.

No way to tell, it depends on Sony, but also on everyone's plans after this.
Thanks, didn't know about Zipper

Also, I think some may have seen it coming seeing the announcement of the merges some time back. Hope a lot of them land on their feet there, maybe some to Guerilla? Those mofos seems to be growing like crazy each year

I also always loved the Wipeout games for their super slick graphic design. The UI, the infamous weapon pickup icons, the iconography for the teams and vehicles, it's all so good.

Let's hope most of the staff go to Evolution and make a PS4 Wipeout.

I loved all the Wipeouts since the 1st one (well excluding Fusion), and carried a PSP/Vita almost always with me at least a Wipeout since Pure was released.

If they buy someone now let's hope it's QD or at least ThatGameCompany or Quasy games. But please don't buy Nihilistic, Imsomniac, United Front or one of the mediocre or casual focused studios. Please don't do it unless at least the Wipeout IP is alive and in good hands.

Thanks Psygnosis for these hundreds of hours of fun since the Amiga age, and to teach me to appreciate the good electronic music.

R.I.P. once again...

you made me fall in love with my Amiga 500..
+1. RIP. :(

Have you guys got the soundtracks? I bought them for 1 and 2. I think 3 came on a disc on a magazine, minus a Chemical Brothers track, "Under the Influence".

i have never bought the soundtracks, but instead bought music from some artists i discovered in wipeout. for some bizarre reason, i didn't know of noisia until wipeout hd.

Not sure how accurate this is but here's a list of Psygnosis games over the years. Please note, they only published some of these. So for instance, they didn't develop Alundra. But I used to love the Destruction Derby titles as well as Formula 1 back in the PS1 days.

Oh, and if I wanted the soundtracks, I just popped the games into my CD player.

There's so much UK racing talent waiting to be exploited. I'm a little baffled that Yoshida decided to work with UFG to make Little Big Planet Racers.

Sony Liverpool, Sumo Digital, and a sprinkling of Evolution would all blend into a pretty fuck-awesome Kart racer. However, am I not making sense?

Jeez, I didn't like WipeOut (except the awesome design, the game itself I thought was awful) but the way this affects WipeOut fans almost makes me cry and feel bad about myself not liking the game. Please stop it :(

Wasn't Psygnosis mainly a publisher and had studios like Reflections doing development?
Also, I always wanted a return to Shadow of the Beast. The looks of the game, the soundtrack, the atmosphere. It really is my favourite series on Amiga.

Never played the other Wipout games but had blast with the second one that came out on the PS, it was a tad slow for my taste (preferred F-Zero for its speed)

you should really watch some zone videos on youtube ha. i watched a video of a guy playing wipeout zones at like zone 150 and he literally would lap a level in 4 seconds.

More importantly, can anyone from Liverpool comment on whether you guys are doing ok? Are most of you homeless or have you found new homes within Sony or other companies? Let us know how you are doing.
