Considering that the september conference is about "how the Wii U will change the future of gaming", one could assume that they may show a few teasers for their 2013 games.

I wonder what kind of connectivity between the 3DS and WiiU will be there, i think there is a lot of potential for interesting concepts, and i believe the Wii-DS connectivity was not satisfying.

In general i'm more interested in the OS capabilities of the new console, since the intergration of the gamepad could bring some fresh ideas to the table. I just hope it is not half assed like the 3DS, the console is definitely capable, and the rumors about the amount of memory allocated for the OS make me more hyped about this.

The WiiU can become an amazing media center if Nintendo allows it, if only they allow video playback from the external hard disk (unlike the 3DS and the stupid 10 minute limit). I would like to play my own files since Netflix and other streaming services are not available in my country.

Being able to play a console game in bed, surf the internet and watch an episode-movie as well? Yes please.

Also i think it would be awesome if Nintendo embraced more the intergration of apps on their console, even free ones, for multimedia and other functions, but i guess we'll have to wait for homebrew (if possible) to get interesting apps.
Until then, i'm sure they will charge 2 dollars for a crappy calculator app, just like on the 3DS.

Another service for which we know nothing about, is the Virtual Console. I'd like to have cross platform buy for the 3DS-WiiU, and also get GameCube and DreamCast games on WiiU.
Nintendo is probably smart enough to make off-tv play a standard for VC games, and by itself it is a great feature.

Let's just hope that the September WiiU conference will answer all these questions, and it would be great if they showed us more upcoming games, especially if they demonstrate more graphical capabilities than the already known ones.

Exactly this. Glorious hd projector (or plasma if you want second best experience), good receiver, hdmi, good surround speakers, BAM!!

How good are projectors these days? I was playing with the idea to buy one for a while now, but my experiences with those mainly came from work (university projectors) and they were all pretty shit when it came to colours, contrast, sharpness and noise.

Man I'm finally experiencing a Wii U thread at full speed in the Gaming section! I was a lurker further first 5 and approved when the sixth one was thrown into community. I'm loving it.

Dude, it's confirmed. This quote is from January.

This one is from Reggie at E3 2011.

What your going to get, is HD collections to make bank like Sony did. Get ready for the Super Mario Galaxy HD collection featuring Galaxy 1 and 2 upscaled to 720p and added AA. And of course, the Zelda HD collection with Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and (hopefully) Wind Waker.

No you misunderstand. What everyone was asking refers to rendering games at a higher resolution like the Dolphin emulator.

When we say it "might" still offer upscaling, we mean what the PS3 does with PS2 and PSOne games. Not rendering them at higher resolutions so it looks super smooth (that's what those HD remasters do).

Basically this: http://www.ign.com/articles/2007/06/02/playstation-3-upscaling-comparison

This is what we can still hope for. What we know it won't do is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQU0oFVh0DU

Does anyone know if Scribblenauts Unlimited for Wii U is the same game as the 3DS version? I was planning on buying it but I'm curious if they're literally the same game. If so I'll just buy the 3DS version.

It's the exact same game. But it lacks the object editor, which is kinda the best thing about it.

I am hoping the tablet can emulate a ccpro or wiimote. Would be nice to have one controller for most of my Wii games rather than switching between 2-3 devices. Any word on that yet?

CCPro - yes (probably), Wii remote - definitely not.

I'mn gonna need a black WUmotionplus with WU-chucks :3

Aren't there still Skyward Sword bundles out there? (if you don't have that yet)

There's also the Flingsmash bundle.

Father forgive me for where this came from

I love you so much right now. I would've done it if you hadn't :D

WiiU Tang Killa Wiis!

From today's conversations with a Nintendo rep, Pikmin 3 is not a launch game. Their focus is on Nintendoland, New SMB U, Ninja Gaiden 3, and hopefully Lego City (could slip). All will be revealed on Sept 13 but if I had to guess, Pikmin 3 may be a spring title. This gels with current marketing showing up in stores - no sign of Pikmin 3.

sad but still okay. there's still too much cool stuff at launch time for my wallet.

Borderlands 2 on WiiU. Make it happen Gearbox.

all we can hope for is a late port.

Upscaled gamecube game

you need to look at more gamecube agmes.

I thought Pikmin 3 was always stated to be released in "launch window".

correct.

lol @ no DVD playback

this is a silly thing to lol at. everyone should've known from the get go it wouldn't be in there. it never will, neither will blu ray or any other format that is not video games made.

Choo choo! Can't wait for this September conference. The fact we're seeing no Wii U news at ND makes it even more exciting, because it shows they're saving everything for this NY conference.

All aboard!
*Reminds Übermatik about E3 2012 hype cycle*

It will enable progressive scan on Wii games with no enhancements and it will look better. Up scaling will probably be included.

YEah, but surely its not expensive to include dvd capabilities at this point. And with the little screen theres a good, new reason to do so. So I can def see legitimacy in people being annoyed or lulzing at that.

If you have the budget, space and proper lighting conditions go for it man.

You won't regret it.

I own an Optoma HD65 and after 3 years, I'm still blown away in -PC- games/movies.

They only problem atm is trying to save lamp-life so that it's available at WiiU launch :p

I don't and haven't used DVDs in a long time. I digitally download all my movies and shows now, and see no need for the inclusion of a DVD drive. Bluray, perhaps, is an opportunity missed, but for the benefit of cost to the consumer, I'm glad they haven't included it. I'd rather hook up a HD and watch my stuff from there if I wanted to.

I'm still annoyed they didn't include it in the Wii. Nintendo seems to focus on the size of the objects people have to hook up under the tv. I wish they'd care more about the amount of objects people have to hook up under the tv.

I've asked this once or twice before in past threads, but I still wonder what effect having HD as the standard output will have on VC games that don't support a higher output than 480i?

The same as playing ps1 games on the ps3? I am not sure what you mean.

Hard question to answer. All depend on the quality of the upscaler that will use the wiiu. Hoping in "real" upscale, that render the games at 1080 (dreamer mode on), but (dreamer mode off) probably will have an upscaler that will scale the output video of the "Wii emulate".

Leaked the release date? 18 november?...... maybe

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/31435

But....

"To All,

Performance Designed Products ("PDP") is aware of recent rumors posted alleging that PDP inadvertently "leaked" the official release date of the upcoming Nintendo Wii U gaming system during a trade presentation earlier today. To be clear, PDP has no knowledge whatsoever of the official Wii U release date, and thus it is not possible for PDP to have "leaked" this information.
"

to D-e-f - Sorry if i'm late, but for the scaler or the "maybe leaked" info?

At the very, very least it should/will have better colour and sound representation because HDMI is a pure digital signal.

I think people misunderstand what I mean. I'm not talking about upscaling Wii games, I'm talking about the Virtual Console games like Sonic The Hedgehog that won't play if you use a component cable. This may be, as I suspect, a European-only issue, but it exists and I'm wondering what will happen to those games if HDMI becomes the standard on the Wii U.

Quick question in reference to Wii U outputting sound through HDMI.

gs_locatinginputsandoutputs.gif

#6 DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL)
Connects to the optical audio input of a digital audio equipment that is PCM optical compatible.

If I connect the Wii U to my tv shown above, will the TV be able to take the Wii U audio single and output it through the optical output (#6 Digital Audio Out)?

My guess is that your TV will send 2 channel Digital audio to the receiver that will convert it to Dolby Pro Logic 2, that is what MY LCD-TV does, but your TV might be different and can just pass the audio signal straight through, check the TV's manual for information.

Wait, Nintendo will be at PAX Prime ? Okay, given how there's been not a single Wii U event in Europe (and that they ignored Gamescom) I'll join the pessimists and say Wii U won't be out in Europe this year. Or maybe they just don't give a fuck about us and know they'll get away with treating us bad anyway. It's not as if we pay more for our games and systems anyway*...

*Excluding Australians. They get treated even worse.

The wii U could be at eurogamer *crosses fingers*

Has there even been any talk that WiiU games will support 5.1? I know I haven't heard any! But Netflix does, right? They deffo need 5.1 sound output options or major fail.

I see, no idea but I think the AV cables from the Wii will work on the WiiU, including scart. So don't get rid of'em.

Heresy. The PS3 audio output is insanely high quality and deserves HDMI.

Not if you want it to output DTS :D

Edit: sorry, hit post before I finished, was going to say...

Not if you want output DTS-MA/Dolby True HD :D But if your receiver can decode True HD/DTS-MA then HDMI will be best, but if not then you'll want an optical cable to achieve best results.

Edit 2: Ignore all of this, didn't realise this only applied to older ps3 models. Apparently sorted now so it will decode all HQ formats before passing through either HDMI, or Optical.

It will definitely be out this year. They have said over and over again that they're gonna focus on these experience tours again in Europe and Wii U is at some other conventions across Europe.

But I'll want to run my Wii U through HDMI to get the best video quality, but it won't be much fun transferring over my VC purchases if they can't be played, especially on the same signal everyone else is likely to be using by this point.

I hope Iwata announces his own WiiU conference in his Direct tomorrow, that's going to reveal the Japanese support. It's not like the New York thing is going to have any game announcements, apart from maybe CoD which certainly is anything but exciting and won't make up for E3 at all.
If Iwata has more partnerships like P-100 ready, maybe the next Tales of from Namco, I might just overlook the ridiculously shitty 1st party lineup that's supposed to kick their brandnew console into life.

Hm, I dunno. RETRO making a racing game? At first I thought the same as you - it seemed to fit, what with their experience in futuristic 3d environments. But if you looks at RETRO's hirings and comments form others, it doesn't piece together so well.

Top this off with Iwata saying they hadn't really considered an F-ZERO for Wii U, and I don't think it's too likely any more.

....but that ruins my theory :(

Good points though. Maybe its the biggest bait n switch ever?!
It's not, is it.

Heh, I knew a Nintendo Direct was coming. No way was Nintendo going to abandon their bimonthly schedule. 3DS only (Wii too lol) as expected, but I would like to throw my hat in the 'Iwata announces Japan WiiU conference at ND' bowl.

hey guys I mentioned Nintendo Direct yesterday, so I must have inside information even though it was bound to happen! :p

Maybe the WiiU firmware will handle/emulate it, who knows. If you have a free scart, AV composite then leave it plugged in and just swap the HMDI lead out at the back of the U when you want to play VC. Best way if worst comes to the worst?

Has there been no Japanese developer announcements yet?

Right now we know of FOUR Japanese developed third party games:

DQX (announced in 2011 when the Wii version was detailed- absolutely nothing further)

NG3 (announced at E3 2011)

Tekken (announced at E3 2011)

and Tanks (announced at E3 2012).

So basically in the last year we have seen the announcement of 1 game- Tanks, a low profile arcade port.

That is why I am expecting a lot of new game announcements in the next few weeks coming out of Japan. There simply has to be a lot more coming.
