Halo |OT8| A Salt on the Control Room

I don't really agree with the idea that having a radar makes the game slower or more campy. Whenever I play SWAT or MLG or some other no-radar mode I always find myself being far more cautious and less willing to push forward. It's kinda like Counter Strike for me in that regard.

From a camping perspective, the only thing that changes is when you can see the other player coming. Other than that campers gonna camp. When I think of no-radar modes, I think of how easy it is to camp a normal and still run up behind them and assassinate or something.

Depends on the kinda player I guess.

Agreed with this, don't get me wrong, with the right players no radar is better than radar, but I totally disagree with the idea that radar=campers, like hydra said, for many players radar is the tool that allows them to be aggressive.

Tool or crutch depending on who you ask, but I think for matchmaking at least radar works well.

Edit: late to the convo, but I suppose im simply talking radar in general matchmaking, I agree with the idea it shouldn't be in higher level play, I also think cqc weapons shouldn't be in higher level play.

Wasn't it used for Reach too? Speaking of Reach, does anyone know what happened to Jun?

Motion tracker only serves to really cripple my sense of movement. I love constantly staying on the move, but it makes it really hard to get into an encounter without someone else initiating it, especially with the upgrades to the tracker. It just serves to completely out me while someone can stay still/crouched the moment I'm on it and get the jump on me.

If there was a tracker, I'd prefer it to be triggered by sight and gunfire instead. Your teammate sees an enemy, it's blipped on the tracker, someone shoots, it's blipped the tracker.

To anyone that played at PAX.

How is not getting knocked out of scope when being shot? I still find this very strange. It's been one of the most consistent things throughout the Halo series multiplayer.

It's actually explained in The Thursday War.

A better question is why do The Storm have Grunts and Jackals.

Well, in Cole Protocol Jackals were explored a bit more. Their very savage, scavengers, sort of space pirates right now. So as long as they get some goods some scraps, they'll work for anyone.

Grunts are just everyones bitch.

More interested about the Hunters. Especially how intelligent they are or if they're more like trained animals.

It will require more playtime before I really offer any grand opinion, but I kinda liked it. It also helped avoid the "scoping in when you don't want to/un-scoping when you want to scope" scenarios.

Also, it was great to meet some of you at PAX! It sucks having to head back home. :(

Ok, I've essentially trained myself since Halo CE to scope right back in as soon as I get shot in long distance battles. If it does remain in the final game, it's going to take a long time to get used to.

I just don't see how the bolded is true. Take the lifts. Why is it less likely that someone will camp lifts? They can hear you coming up. Radar has really nothing to do with it there.

Someone camping with a shotty or sword is going to camp regardless of having a radar because the awareness is always benefitting the camper. Without radar, the camper can only hear footsteps, panting or gunshots that are not their own and so they will always have far more awareness than someone who is wandering.

Radar certainly makes camping easier
but I just don't think that not having a radar reduces it in any significant manner.
Let's say you're playing Construct. I use Construct because it had the most pronounced difference in gameplay from default to no radar. When you get top control, you can still see where the other team is on the bottom using your radar. If you see them go towards one lift, your whole team can go towards that lift and ambush them once they get to the top. If you don't have radar you can't tell which lift they're going to take until they take it, giving you less time to set up for that lift. If you put your whole team on one lift there are two more the other team can use. If you spread out your team between the lifts the other team can swarm up one lift and overwhelm the person there.

Stuff like that isn't possible when you have radar and can anticipate where the other team will go with basically perfect accuracy

Didn't use that perk because I got pro real fast at strafing and dodging bullets.
I went from scrub baby to MLG amateur in like 5 minutes, sorry I couldn't help you answer your question.

Must be nice to know you project a dangerous persona when on camera. People fear you Frankles...

Frankie! Since you're finally awake, is Recruit the default armor? Us LE purchasers are curious about what we are actually getting. Is Recruit exclusive to LE?!

I just thought of something, can you sprint with the flag? If not you essentially are moving slower like in past Halo games, now that sprint is a standard feature, only change is carrying the magnum (which is neat BTW).

Loving the BR and the Shotgun in this. And the DMR of course. I'm getting seriously hyped to play the MP portion of this game, the gunplay looks ace and if the AAs are not as dominating as before this could be seriously great.

Awesome, great job noticing!

The naysayers really have their work cut out for them now, even if they are out of radar range (25m?) you could still see the ripple from quite a ways away
Not being looked at through walls is still better than knowing you're being looked at through walls.

As I understand it, flag carrier doesn't have sprint but does have an increased base speed.

So is there any reason not to use the DMR? It seems so absurdly powerful in Halo 4, I don't see why anyone would ever choose a different starting weapon. It's powerful, really accurate, and has a decent-sized clip. Even at mid-range, it seems as though it performs better than the BR.

I really hope it doesn't become the go-to weapon after release. I'd love to see some variety.

Well, unfortunately, your gunna be looked at through walls regardless.

So might aswell balance it appropriately.

Prom Vision wont be as horrible as some people think it will,
it doesnt even make my top 3 AA's so far

I have a feeling (most) wont even care about Prom Vision after Night 1

I'm just going to constantly use the BR, no matter how good or bad it is.

Light Rifle seems like it might be a beast.

I've been thinking the same thing. Would have liked to see Halo 4 just omit the DMR since I've used it so much through Reach. Hopefully the Carbine and Light Rifle are good enough that the DMR isn't "necessary".

My quick solutions for the flag debate that will keep the speed of the game close to what it is now assuming we have to keep the no drop setting and the waypoint:

1) Remove auto pick up (you have to manually pick up the flag). This way if you have power weapons, etc... You can make a conscious decision to pick up and commit to carrying/capping the flag so you don't lose weapons you're carrying unless you decide to.

2) Make the "kill" waypoint for the flag carrier only appear once he takes damage and then fade as he escapes danger. This keeps the focus on finding the flag carrier and provides a waypoint for the team if you do spot him, but it also allows him to try and go for sneaky steals/caps. Waypoint remains over carriers head through duration of taking damage and will fade out as he takes cover. If he never takes damage, waypoint never appears. Still have the "flag stolen" notification present entire time enemy has your flag. This would really promote teamwork still because you could essentially get one shot on the flag guy as you're dying and notify your team of his brief location. Or you could say "guys, found the flag... About to tag him... Now" and pop him to show your team where he is even if you know you're outnumbered and likely won't survive the battle.

Never played it either way but I'd be happy with these compromises.

CARRRRBINNNEEE. All day everyday.

idkkkkkkk man, keep a distance, can't get knocked out of scope, zoom in 4 shot with Light Rifle, Profit.

chaaa chingggg

-ideas droppin like bomb-ombs!-

Hopefully 343 changes that waypoint to something like what you said if they MUST have a waypoint at all.. I say have the waypoint appear once you get shot, then blink once you're regenerating shields and disappear once you're full health.

UMM, I must have missed the call? WHAT!

343 pls: nillapuddin626, at your service, will work for nothing in return whatsoever

SD: Is it strictly an objective map or is it also a slayer map?

... There's another map we haven't revealed yet that is in some ways bigger and more wide open ...

... than that that we all assumed, for various historical reasons, that there's no way that would be suitable for smaller teams ...

... but we were playing with four people the other day on that huge map, and it just works.

BLOOD GULCH COAG!!

:( probably BG

SD: Earlier you mentioned Theatre and Forge, is Spartan Ops something you can use Theatre in, and are we going to get any more information before launch about Theatre or Forge?

You will get more information before launch about Theatre and Forge, and that's all i'm going to say about that at this point ...

... but we are working with Community Cartographers to have some Forge content ready and File Shares for launch ...

... so you'll get, hopefully, some classic remakes and some interesting looks at how the new lighting engine ...

where is this from?

and yes they should contact you, your remakes were really good if I remember correctly.

I've got a couple questions for the PAX-goers: What game is the arc of the grenades most like? And can you launch plasma grenades off other plasma grenades again?

Elites have very specific motivational ideas about staff job security.

I imagine 'Telcam's followers could provide some stuff for Jackals and beat the Grunts into helping. I guess he wouldn't mind having nonbelievers help since he let
ONI give him weapons
. Would it be reasonable to assume we will get the details as to why Kig-Yar, Unggoy and Lekgolo are helping in either Thursday War or Halo 4?

Speaking of Reach, does anyone know what happened to Jun?
According to Bungie he is still alive, however I would take that as dubious canon as it wasn't shown in game or said in any other material and 343 could just as well say he was dead without actually retconing anything.

People killed by the Boltshot don't disintegrate. Interesting..

where'd you see someone get killed by it? i didn't see it.

from what i could tell it looks extremely difficult to hit someone with the charged blast.

EDIT: oh nevermind, he killed someone without charging it.
