They have been doing it this entire gen.

Not really to any great extent, most of Bayonettas sales were in Japan were they not? Being X-360 exclusive would kill the sales potential of the game.

Other than Blue Dragon, which flopped compared to what it could have done, and made no headwind for the 360 in Japan, and infinite undiscovery have they done?

If anything these failures make it less likely for MSFT to pursue that in the future, the MS brand is hopeless in Japan, I think they've realized they are better off dominating America.

Nintendo is king in Japan, MSFT is better off letting them spend their money in the home country instead of trying to poach Western stuff away from them.

I wouldn't say the entire gen, They made a valiant effort with Lost Oddessy & Blue Dragon and grabbing FF13, but the damn thing wasn't gonna sell in Japan anyway....

They don't want western hardware.... Especially with the fact that it had crazy failure rates and majority of the software is shootbang FPS (A genre that's rarely played in Japan anyway)

MS knew it wasn't going to work and changed their aim

Sony simply can't afford to do things like this, with it's financial problems, failing handheld business, and likely high R and D for the PS4. If Sony could afford to do stuff like this anymore than they wouldn't have allowed Nintendo to steal Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter as basically Nintendo exclusive franchises when they used to be Sony's.

They changed their aim to the one niche they managed to capture:

Query: Who here, for whatever reasons, missed out on or was disinterested in Bayonetta, and given this announcement and surrounding nonsense is is now interested in Bayonetta 2?

I'd be one of these people. I'm indifferent when it comes to this style of game to be honest. I played Devil May Cry back in the day. I thought Lollipop Chainsaw looked interesting but had no desire to buy it. When Bayonetta originally came out I wasn't that interested in picking up non-Wii games I think. So I really didn't bother really looking into it.

Since going forward the Wii U will be the only console I'm going to have when it comes to the next generation of hardware (regardless of what Sony and Microsoft do and what games come out on those systems) I'm willing to give this game a lot more attention then I normally would. That some people have lost their damn minds over it being published by Nintendo just makes it even easier to pay attention to the game. It also doesn't hurt that it's coming very early in the Wii U's life cycle as well.

And yet, the only Japanese-published games that they've bothered to do anything with in recent memory all come from Capcom, the most western-friendly Japanese publisher of the whole lot.

MS finally saw the writing on the wall. It took them a lot of money and a lot of time, but they know it's a lost cause now.

Vanquish 2 would be incredible, but I don't think Mikami would even be supervising it. Which would give me concern. The biggest reason why its so great is that perfect touch with the mechanics.

Would I be ecstatic for it? Yes. But unlike this where at least Kayima is still with the company. He is no longer.

I think Platinum could definitely build off the base Mikami gave them. If we were lucky enough to get a Vanquish 2, I'd bet it would be a spiritual successor since the first didnt sell gangbusters (unfortunately). If Nintendo got this game, they would probably have the most to benefit from it as they dont have a shooter(s) like Microsoft and Sony do with their brands.

On topic, whoop whoop Bayonetta 2!

Kind of OT but i am dying to know why the 360 never took off in japan. I mean, it had all the games and the dev support. It never made sense to me. If nintendo is able to secure/moneyhat the niche japanese franchises to come to the wii u and essentially have a japanese library similar to the 360's, i don't think i would be able to complain. I hope it sells much better over there though

It had two knock offs to major brands, and everything else of importance was on PS3 as well if not exclusive to it.

There was nothing on 360 and only 360 that really drove people to the platform. That and Japan seemed happy sticking with Playstation and Wii.

I think the foundation is there for a decent sequel. The downside of Mikami leaving is that the sequel will "only" be a good game, not genre defining or anything.

Sony is literally holding their own self up, They kinda exists in-between the 2 markets with GOW & Uncharted /West compared to things like Folklore & Team ICO (even that new Vita IP) / East

I've been enjoying Sonys work lately and I hope for the best but it does seem in light of these new recent moves that the future of Sony in the videogame business may be ending in the upcoming future

Probably the worst examples you could have given.

Yeah, Sony spent most of the gen chasing after the west with Microsoft, so... yeah, it puts Sony in an odd position that really won't work out for them.

It would be a surreal world if the Wii U was home to exclusive sequels to games I originally bought a PlayStation 3 specifically for.

I hope this happens. Should be quite a fun gen if Nintendo manage to get a few more gems from all those talented mid-tier dev studios who have to put up with to piss poor business management this gen.

Platinum Games. I loved. LOVED. Mikami's Vanquish. "The student can never be greater than the teacher". I am very much looking forward to Mikami and his new studio's next project.

Bayonetta. I'm not sure how much i liked the game. In retrospect I can't say I have it sitting high on my list of favorite 360 games and I'm not uber excited about this sequel. It was a nice cool surprising moment when it was announced. But nothing more.

Madworld. Nah. Didn't like that much.

On the downside of Nintendo contract funding Platinum Games is that it will undoubtedly lead to weekly Nintendo fandom worship threads fantasizing about when Nintendo will buy Platinum Games, or the always fun "Platinum Games should develop X Nintendo game".

Platinum Games should develop every game.

But the Star Fox one came from Kamiya himself and he's been repeating it for a long time.

Just bumping Alistair Roo's Bayo 2 box mockup to the new page, because Bayonetta with the blue color scheme (as per the trailer) and the new logo are sexy:

Just noticed the glove on her hand holding the gun is still red. Anyone have 'shop skills to make it blue while still being shadowed?

One more for the tally. I wasn't aware of this game existence but from what I've seen it's right up my alley (fast paced, stylish).

On the other hand I was planning on finally buying a current-gen hd console next year, and the ps3 was going to be it because of some of its exclusives. But hearing the ps3 version of bayonetta is significantly worse is making me doubt... Oh well, I'll stick to my decision. And from what I heard the ps3 patch mitigates loading times. Hopefully the framerate is tolerable (don't really mind subpar graphics)

Funnily enough, the devil may cry recent controversy also brought another series to my attention, it seems there's no such thing as bad publicity

You can add me to the group that missed Bayonetta the first time around but is interested in the sequel. I even ordered the first one through the mail when they announced it.

how bout now?

edit: mine fuck it this looks dark
I meant more like the colors on the skin are washed out compared to the original, where they are warm and lifelike. The colors on the gun seem washed out now, too. It must just be an effect of being edited. You can see the difference in tone if you go back and forth between the original and the new one in an image viewer. :)

I have the PS3 version of Bayonetta that I only played for a couple of hours and I wasn't too impressed. If they decided to release the original on Wii U I would like to give it another shot.

I am very interested.

I remember when it was announced and that it was my kind of game, one of the few games that made consider getting into the HD twins, however later the hyper sexualization turned me off from the game. Thanks to this thread I have renewed interest, things like this:

I love her design as well. And to the people who say yadda yadda Kamiya is a pervert yadda yadda: She was created by a woman. She's the typical dominant woman you see in girls love stuff.

Also help, because they have cleared up some misconceptions I had about the game and the character.

Yeah, Vanquish and Bayonetta are completely different games. I don't see one diminishing the other.

P* still own the Vanquish license, so they could make a sequel. It's just a question of whether they could pull it off using Mikami's groundwork, without Mikami himself.

I agree Kamiya has an outstanding track record. Definitely one of the best in the industry.

Atsushi Inaba produced Vanquish and he is still with Platinum Games. A sequel is still possible, although I'm not sure if it could live up to the standards set by the original without Mikami's direction.

Also add me to the group of those who didn't play they original Bayo but am extremely interested in the sequel based on the praise I see in this thread. Hopefully the original can be a digital download.

ahh, it's because of imgur. I should have uploaded to min.us or abload or something.

just bought bayonetta ps3 used in "very good" condition on amazon for 10 (gohasting is the seller).

First time playing Bayonetta, I hope it lives up to the hype (even though I'm playing on the worst version)

I can see why the crazy, over-the-top cutscenes and weird static image cutscenes are polarizing (I personally love them,) but the combat is fucking peerless. No peers.

I ended up sticking with the sword on my hands and electric claws on my feet. So rad. Love the huuuuge number of different combos, the way that you can hold the button for different effects, and the way that each weapon completely changes the game. Once you get the hang of it you feel like such a badass.

Tons of awesome little touches you might not notice your first time through. I like how the angels have a frog-like air sac they can inflate in their necks, just to be gross. Sometimes when you smack them extra-hard and leave them alone you can see them vomit for a bit. Using the taunt button to enrage them is hilarious. Then you buy that accessory of Hakuna Matata or whatever that lets you parry and the game somehow gets more awesome.

Everything is great except the really long and unnecessary vehicle sections. Also the angel shooting mini-game, zzzz. You'd think they'd smear some of the style and flair oozing from the game's pores onto it, but it's pretty lifeless.

NG2 has better combat, but the main game content is underwhelming/unfinished feeling.

That's why NG2 Mission Mode is the way to go!

So, ummm.... surprised that I haven't seen any in here (but at 62/124 pages, there's a lot to sift through), but...

What's Japan's opinion on this news, exactly? I wanna see quotes and see if they're just as ridiculous as the stuff in here, or if they're laughing at how fucking ridiculous we are.

In anticipation of the sequel I got the game on 360 and started it this weekend (already finished on Normal and got a bit further halfway through the game on hard on the PS3) and this game is really so much better looking on 360 it's not funny. Colors everywhere and great frame rate. <3

Nope, that's just straight wrong.

Nah he's right NG2 was better, it was less about styling and more about breaking your enemies defense. Although depending on your level of skill either one could be played like the other.
