Finally finished unpacking ~25 minutes later after a ~15 minute download (you all really should've checked at 12:45...)

Now rebooted, watching the little bar under the Apple logo. Weren't we going to get a new Apple logo?

Hm, I live in NYC and live on public transport directions. Any other NYC'ers not upgrading because of this? Or is there a workaround?

From a few pages back.

To everyone who is unhappy about the transit apps. If you live in a large city there are aps that have updated for iOS 6 and integrate with maps for transit directions

Embark - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/embark-nyc-subway-new-york/id450991137?mt=8
I use the NYC version and it works well. It even has information about service changes/advisories.

I also tried out http://itunes.apple.com/app/id501673331 last night. The directions are more detailed than Embark.

Both apps have data for quite a few cities.

Both of my devices are in "Preparing Update..." mode now. Went more quickly than I had expected. Looks like they should be rebooting in a minute or two. OTA updates are so great.

Manual downloads: http://ios.e-lite.org

Youtube.com -> Save to home screen.

For me, these things are worth it to upgrade on the iPad:
- Safari has iCloud tabs, file uploading, jpegs are downscaled if they're more than 2MB (critical for retina sites on the 2012 iPad), and a faster javascript engine.
- I can send and receive iMessages from my phone number
- Facebook integration for single sign on in apps, friends are synced in my contacts list
- Haven't given it a real world spin yet with my family members since they don't have iOS 6, but I like the idea of shared photo streams since they're not all on Facebook.
- Do not disturb. My iPad lights up at night and brightens the room when a new notification comes in. I don't need to see them at night when I have my phone.
- Mail lets you attach photos and videos inside the app, has pull to refresh, and can maintain different signatures for multiple accounts.
- App store doesn't kick you out when downloading an app or prompt you for a pass when updating.
I've been on iOS 6 beta so long that I forgot all about Do Not Disturb. I live halfway around the world and used to always wake up in the middle of the night to my iOS devices sounding off in unison because of snarky iMessages from dream about his Marco Arment fantasies or asking me help to change his iOS wallpaper or something. Great feature.

Will Google be releasing a map app for iOS 6? I'm going to miss Street View, as awful as it was (compared to the website).

If you tap the screen while in turn by turn mode, the ETA disappears or reappears.

Hopefully this image helps.

I can't believe I'm willingly downloading a downgraded OS with GMaps gone. Ugh.

The wait for Google's own Maps app is going to be excruciating. I'm warming up to Apple's app (I love that it's vector based) but no Street View is unbearable.

Also, supposedly iOS 6 has support for several dictionaries other than English (Spansih, German and French IIRC) but so far only the English and Spanish ones seem to be working, not German I'd love to be able to just highlight German words and look them up instantly. Anyone have better luck?

Yup! Given how shitty their app is for purchases, I didn't think they'd be so on the ball with this update.

No kidding. I have the Cineplex app purely for the SCENE card, and the Movies by Flixter app for everything else. Passbook should make things easier to manage my cards in general.

Well, got it all set up on my phone. Not noticing anything all that different tbh, but I guess that was to be expected.
Indeed. It's really mostly a set of updates to the built-in apps.

Took about 40 min from download complete through the initial setup to get to 6 on my 4S.

Downgraded OS? How?

Only thing you might miss is the maps app. There is no other 'downgrade'. Maybe the app store search I suppose but that's it. No need for so much drama.

My post is now drama?

Anyone else get all their music and apps blown away?

edit: Nice, whenever you download a new app and haven't used it yet, a "new" ribbon appears draped over the corner of the app.

Anyone having trouble installing this on iPad?

It seems to be installing fine on my iPod touch and MacBook Pro but the iPad keeps saying error after about 3 mins trying to install.

Is it not terrible anymore?

Podcasts 1.1 adds support for iOS 6. This version also provides:

• Automatically keep your podcast subscriptions up-to-date between devices using iCloud
• A new setting to choose to automatically download new episodes only when on Wi-Fi
• A new setting to choose whether to play episodes by oldest to newest or newest to oldest
• Pull to refresh a subscription to check for new episodes on iOS 6
• Additional performance and stability improvements

Not sure what they mean by keeping subscriptions up to date with iCloud, but it's probably still terrible.

To anyone looking for a mass transit app to integrate with maps, The Transit App is excellent. Amazing UI and support for multiple cities.

Not singling you out. In general there are quite a few exaggerated posts in here.

iOS6 isn't perfect but it's not as disastrous as some are making it out to be.

I'll agree that iOS 6 isn't as bad as some make it out to be, but a robust maps app is a pretty big part of modern smartphones.

I said removing Maps is awful. Anyone who disagrees is purposely putting on the blinders. And iOS 6 isn't much of an update. The only thing that's cool to me is putting Siri on my iPad. That's... about it.
