Alright, so tell me what to do. What can I do to experience this for myself?
That's all I'm asking.
So you're saying Jelly Bean solves all of these issues, right? Are there ANY phones that I can get my hands on right now with JB installed?
You're putting words in my mouth. It doesn't suck. I see the value in Android, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its issues just like iOS or Windows Phone.
Dark, in my very first reply, I said that Android will probably never be as consistent in performance as ios or wp7/8. I explained why.
With that in mind, you have to understand then, you will never be satisfied with the OS performance. JB solves a lot with how the GPU renders the UI and how its buffered (especially when tracking your finger movements). In fact, that's the biggest improvement IMO.
ICS (except for on the GS3 at times) would not keep a locked 60fps when you scroll using your finger instead of flicking and letting kinetics take over. A incredible annoyance, especially in scroll heavy situations like web browsing. Moving to a tripple buffered setup fixes that almost completely, but there ARE still some lingering jank in Andy-roid.
Rotating the display with the keyboard up can halve the frame rate (this isn't an issue on moto phones even with gingerbread thanks to how they cache before the rotation). Also, like I've mentioned before, keeping GUI animations and interactions on the same thread as data polling means less performance consistency compared to its competitors.
Keep in mind that Android is a general purpose based OS, not written for a specific hardware setup, but rather hardware/software intercommunication guidelines. It would more than likely have to be written from the ground up to achieve parity in performance.
Still, on something like the Nexus 7 or Galaxy Nexus, you can see that JB is enough of an improvement so as to make the old Android jank argument, fairly moot. There are better things to pick on the OS for.
And....ios has its fair share of jank too.
Edit: for the record, my detailed replies aren't excuses for the OS performance you experienced in store. iCS can be pretty hitch for sure. I'm just being respectfully enough to give you some insight into the situation rather than me just saying, "OK".
