Doom 3 BFG edition. Anyone excited for this?

The game is eight years old.... Will it really hold up to modern FPS game standards? I haven't followed it to much and am a little interested having only played the old Xbox version and none of the expansions. Will this be worth the money?

Doom 3 didn't hold up to modern FPS standards (or older FPS standards for that matter) when it released.

BFG Edition isn't going to change that.

The console port has the coop removed and the PC version has modding capability and source code compatibility removed. There is basically no market for this game.

I'm actually looking forward to playing this. I don't know when exactly I'll get to it (no money) but I never played this on a PC, only on the OG X-Box.

It'll be nice to play this game at 60fps. Going to get the PS3 version.

I only played the demo back then, and as a fan of the first games (and Ultimate Doom) thought it was pretty bad, so I won't be getting this unless it's $5 or less.

The graphics don't seem all that much better than the original to me, honestly, and I just bought it during the steam sale.

Yeah, I'm going to buy the collection for $10 during a steam sale. $10 seems like a good deal for Doom 3 + RoE + The Lost Chapter & Doom 1 & Doom 2.

I mean, $29.99 for the PC version at release is decent too, I just don't really care enough to spend $29.99 for the set.

I really loved Doom 3, played through it a bunch of times, last time was several years ago. I'll get the BFG edition. But I'm not exactly "excited" per se.

No co op this time? WTF?!

Love doom 3, played it on pc twice and xbox once, for the asking price and the rather small upgrades to the game i'm not that interested right now, if it looked visually better yeah.

Also lack of xbox co-op mode is a turn off and signs that this is just a port of the pc version to current gen consoles.

Wasn't really enamoured with Doom 3. I've got the Resurrection of Evil expansion on Xbox and it feels more like true Doom but still nothing to rave about.

I can see why some console gamers would be excited, but pc gamers, wouldn't you guys be better off finding a copy of the original D3 and getting the texture mod packs?

I will get it. This will be my first day one game since a really really long time (thanks to all those nickel and diming and DLC stunts; it devalues games for me).

I only played the xbox version back then and i just like id`s gameplay style. I hope they did a good job with this.

These two statements go together perfectly.

When I say "properly" I meant I didn't play more than 3 hours, as I had it on a laptop, and it didn't perform on a technical level super well.

I liked what I played, and I honestly don't know why GAF seems to not like this game very much. You don't make a brand new engine to just re-create the exact same gameplay as the first two (which were done to death)

Wait... it's $40?

Fuck no. I'm no cheapskate, but that's twice what I would pay for this. I played it just fine when it was released, and it was decent for the time. It won't hold up in 2012, no matter what they do to it.

Probably won't get this. Have the Collectors Edition for Xbox, which also includes Doom 1 and 2 as extras. And it plays fine on the 360.

I played a bit of the PC and Xbox versions, and I enjoyed it. I came close to buying it a few times, but something always came up and I wasn't able to.

I was not aware that there was a new version coming out, nor that it was a retail game...nor that it comes with 1 and 2, and the Resurrection of Evil add-on, and some new levels...

I will need to buy this...

The last time I upgraded my PC was to run Doom 3 the first time around. And Half Life 2, of course. I intended to upgrade again when Crysis came out, never did. Lost my PC Gamer Cred years ago.

Reign in your expectations and place them firmly in the mid 2000's. Then lower it just a tiny bit from there.

What's new in this version? I already played it when it came out.
Ripped straight from Wikipedia, because that's about as much as I care:

"A re-release of Doom 3 called Doom 3 BFG Edition will be released on October 16, 2012[70] in North America and three days later in Europe on October 19 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The BFG Edition will feature "greatly enhanced graphics", better sound with more horror effects, a checkpoint save system, and support for 3D displays and HMDs. The game will also include the previous expansion Resurrection of Evil and a new single player expansion pack called The Lost Mission. Additionally, it will include copies of the original Doom, and Doom 2. The BFG Edition will also feature the ability to use the flashlight while holding a weapon, in the form of the so-called armor-mounted flashlight.[71]"

Yeah, only the finest FPS of this entire generation
BAHAHAHAH I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET BACK INTO MY CHAIR TO GIVE YOU A REPLY.

Do you take yourself seriously? We're talking about Crysis here right? The finest single player FPS of the generation?

I'll probably get the PC version on sale if it has full controller support. $40 is way too much though, they overestimate the value of tossing in the first two Doom games.
