Doom 3 BFG edition. Anyone excited for this?

I honestly loved Doom 3 when I played it on the original Xbox, and it's been enough years since that I'll happily give it a go again. But, as others have said, not at $40. New content notwithstanding, I'll wait for a price drop.

I'm an Id fanboy but I'm gonna be waiting on a nice steam sale for this one. I haven't played D3 since 07ish but I'm looking forward to a future run through. I'm a weirdo but I always really enjoyed D3. Even got a bit of fun out of it's multiplayer back in the day.

Are you an idiot? Or just trolling?
You just called Crysis the finest single player FPS of the generation and you're asking ME if I'M trolling.

Talk about putting mediocrity on a pedestal. In the five long years that this game has been out you're the first person I've ever seen lob that praise at it.

Ripped straight from Wikipedia, because that's about as much as I care:

"A re-release of Doom 3 called Doom 3 BFG Edition will be released on October 16, 2012[70] in North America and three days later in Europe on October 19 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The BFG Edition will feature "greatly enhanced graphics", better sound with more horror effects, a checkpoint save system, and support for 3D displays and HMDs. The game will also include the previous expansion Resurrection of Evil and a new single player expansion pack called The Lost Mission. Additionally, it will include copies of the original Doom, and Doom 2. The BFG Edition will also feature the ability to use the flashlight while holding a weapon, in the form of the so-called armor-mounted flashlight.[71]"

Wow I didn't know this. It would probably reduce the tension a bit, but this is a vast improvement.

Yes but only because it is coming free with my Occulus. I can't wait to feel like I am on Mars being hunted by demons. Yay!

Seriously though, I think it is gonna rock my socks playing it that way.

I'll always have a soft spot for Doom 3. It was the game I built my first gaming pc for way back in 2004, but still I couldn't get it to run at 60fps. Good times.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
I've never played it, so yes — it's actually one of the only games coming out this fall that I'm interested in. I'll keep an eye out for discounts around Black Friday time, as I'm sure it'll drop to $20 quick.

Sure, never finished it when it was relevant, and Carmack has done some enhancements on the engine. And playing with Oculus would be awesome.

Reign in your expectations and place them firmly in the mid 2000's. Then lower it just a tiny bit from there.

I already know what to expect. :p

Last time I got to play it was...about a year ago? I also borrowed the Xbox version for a day or two from my friend, but didn't get to finish it.

I've always wanted to get the game, and with all the extras, I might as well wait for this version.

The graphics don't really look any better than the original, but I don't really care. I still play all of my classic consoles regularly, so I don't mind outdated graphics.

I'll probably wait until it's cheaper, though. I still got a ton of other stuff to get first...

Woah, 10 years ago I had the exact same Sony DVD surround sound setup! It stopped reading discs a while back.

It's good for a rental. I can't wait to see the reworked lighting, since the only light source in vanilla Doom 3 besides the flashlight was imp fireballs.

Licorice-flavoured booze?
BAHAHAHAH I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET BACK INTO MY CHAIR TO GIVE YOU A REPLY.

Do you take yourself seriously? We're talking about Crysis here right? The finest single player FPS of the generation?

Crysis is easily 'one' of the finest single player FPS games of this generation, in fact outside of orange box it's the only FPS this generation that I've played through more than once, I think your reaction to sp3000's post was a little ott tbh.

I anxiously await YouTube videos of people using their Oculus Rifts with the game more than the game itself.

Is this weird?
Not at all, I'm in exactly the same boat.

Glad you enjoyed it. Over the top is just how I do it, keeps things interesting.

Mine still works. :)

I mostly just use it for higher quality sound output for my older games nowadays, though, including Dolby Digital 5.1 on my Xbox/Xbox 360, and DTS for the SSX games on PlayStation 2.

I use my PlayStation 3 on a 42" HDTV with a 1000 watt 5.1 system in another room for most of my DVD and Blu-ray stuff. I leave my Xbox 360 in my room usually just to play in my bed, though, but sometimes I'll move it over to the other room to play in HD if I really feel like it. Considering the lack of any true graphical enhancements in Doom 3 BFG, though, I won't really have to wonder if I'm missing out on anything by playing it on my SDTV. Hah.

And yes, that last part was mostly to stay on topic somehow. Haha.

I will pick it up if I get a 3d vision kit for my benQ or a headset. Or cheap if I hear the added missions are awesome.

The media to date does not even look as good as sikkmod and the wolfen textures.

id lost purchase anything treatment with the lies about rage mod tools.

I played through doom 3 last summer and for the type of gameplay it is twice as long as it should be. More than 50% of Alpha/Delta labs could be cut with players only noticing that the game is better.

If we're going to sit here and argue the quality of F.E.A.R vs Crysis, I will side with F.E.A.R. every single time.

I finished FEAR before the Xbox 360 even released, so I don't really consider it part of this generation. Although I do think it's gunplay was unmatched.

Glad you enjoyed it. Over the top is just how I do it, keeps things interesting.

Or just makes you like like a 10 year old on Gamefaqs.

Anyway you are allowed to have awful taste and be ignorant. I won't derail this thread further.

I got it for around $16 shipped due to a pricing error on amazon...so yea...I'm excited. I never really played 3... I just endlessly fiddled with the settings trying to maximize my frame rate on my 6800 ultra gtx. lol. That was first and last foray into pc gaming.

I'd be in the dick
I am. Only ever played Doom 3 at Medium with framerates in the teens but even then I still liked it a lot. A 60fps version with the flashlight, expansion, and lost levels is worth it to me.

lol what? The original Crysis is one of best modern sanbbox action games I've played. Even if you take away all the pretty graphics you still got an amazing game with an endless amount of ways to play it. I guess you like super scripted linear fps's.

You seem like a pleasant person.
To be fair, his response wasn't out of line compared to what I said earlier. ;)

The difference between you and several other Crysis fans in this thread and sp3000 is that you said "one of" and he said "the".

I don't necessarily have a huge problem with "one of", but I do with "the".

I'll consider grabbing Doom 3 BFG when it eventually goes on sale. I am genuinely miffed that they did not put co-op in this version.

I do like Doom 3 and RoE, it's just that I already own them, and there are no compelling reasons to pay $40 for this new version, especially as the only reason I have to get it is the new Bravo Team mission.

I will say, however, that Doom 3 BFG is a great place to start for someone new to Doom, as it has 1, 2, 3, RoE, and Bravo Team.

...but no Final Doom or Master Levels?

I don't remember performance being that bad on my geforce 5900. I think I even played at 60 with settings turned down.

I can't wait to hear impressions of that.

I listened to the entire 3 hour John Carmack keynote from Quakecon this year and he got me pretty excited about all that VR talk.

Yeah I'm pretty keen to get my hands on it, and it's coming at a perfect time when I'll be free to spend a couple of weeks messing around in openGL trying to make my own stuff.

Huh, sounds like a pretty good deal for someone who hasn't played it yet and wants to jump in, actually.

I was about to say that the flashlight mod was essential, good that they're including their own version.

OP should've included some comparison screenshots to show off these "greatly enhanced graphics".

BioShock.

Instead of listing reasons why I disagree with you I'll just leave you to this review which pretty much says exactly how I feel about Bioshock. It's an hour long review but I highly advise you watch it. Basically for me Bioshock is neither a good rpg and it's definitely not a good shooter and in it's attempts to do both it ends up being a lesser game in the end.
