Hideki Kamiya: "Huge dev resources didn't help Capcom" #ShotsFired

I'm not claiming that, but you're the one asserting that commercial success is the metric that should allow/justify developers to 'toot their own horn'

No.. I'm simply saying that his comment on 'didn't help capcom' and implying that their games is bad is stupid.

He gets to make the games he wanted, but an after production port to another system is Capcom treating him badly? This seems like some terrible fanboy logic devoid of the business side of gaming.

Considering they went to larger audiences who experienced them for the first time, as inferior ports?

I'd say so.

There is nothing wrong with it. Pretty awesome game. I think people just hate that the new levels stop coming out halfway through the game.
Maybe they hate the story, or that it is not hard enough. Who knows. But crap it is not.

Yeah the level design was complete shit. Combat though (at least Dante) was outstanding. I dunno about Nero though. The story was also not that great either.

Heh I was waiting for that. I had a blast playing co-op. It didn't kill anything for me.

The problem with RE5 was that the co-op focus killed the single player.

As for the older games, I just started playing Resident Evil 2 for the first time and it's still a really good game. The controls suck and should never be used in an action game with fixed camera angles again but the rest of the game is still really good.

Innuendo, then, if not a bald-faced assertion

Assertion? No it isn't, he stated that a small team can do as much as a big bloated team. Yes that's true - but he implied that those games are bad with the 'didn't help capcom' comment. He certainly has a huge axe to grind with them after leaving the company.

? He never implied Capcom games being bad, he even said those big budget games look good when asked about it on twitter.

I was talking about you - you implied that because his games weren't commercial successes, he shouldn't bother tooting his own horn.

Yeah, I don't think he was trying to put the games down, just questioning the usefulness of large teams and saying it doesn't show in the end product. So really what he means is that even though DMC4 was good, his game made by a small team was just as good or better:
When looking at these monstrous development team sizes, Kamiya said he is "amazed" by the small group of people that developed Bayonetta.

And I mean, he's right. If you put DMC4 and Bayonetta next to each other (360 versions only!) and asked an average gamer without knowledge of the subject to pick which one had a huge team and budget, I don't think they could. And if you had them play through both they'd probably end up picking Bayonetta because despite the reality of it being the one that had more resources poured into it, DMC4 is like half a game that repeats the first half in the second half. There's nothing in DMC4 that shows it benefited from the large amount of resources it had for its development.

Shots fired etc.

I am surprised he didn't bring up DD, that game had a shit ton of people working on it too.

I don't know why he is firing shots at DMC4, there weren't THAT many people working on it (compared to RE6/DD) and it was a solid action game that sold more than expected AND worked great on all consoles.

Shots fired etc.

I agree with his point that more devs + money does not equal better games. Dedicated and talented fewer devs can get the job done much better in some cases.

Agreed. DMC4 was commercially and critically wel received.

And yes, DMC4 does have better combat than Bayonetta. I hope gunbo gets into why if he wants to.

DMC4 combat system may be more deeper than Bayonetta, but I love how much faster and light Bayo feels. Also is easier to get a hang on, but very hard to master, with much less practice Bayo's feel much better for the average player.

I mean there's a lot in common but a lot different. For me I prefer Bayonetta over DMC4.

400 people didn't save MGS 4. I like the game, but I can't see how it took all those people unless...oh wait I work in the JP game industry and know how retardedly inefficient it is.

Those shots fired don't seem nearly as wicked as this:

He seems to be taking his sweet time on his games...I wonder if it's because he's also using the traditional JP retarded inefficient production method..

Bayonetta just felt more badass.

Why a game sells well is can be anything. Good marketing, good timing, recognizable license, some combo of the above, etc. 50 Cent Bulletproof has been a long time industry whipping boy for s**t games that sell great. Then Blood in the Sand turned out to be surprisingly good and didn't sell nearly as well. lol Game Industry

So much bad blood.

I really want Kamiya to make a sequel to God Hand, starring James Brown complete with an awesome soundtrack and everything.

God Hand of Soul. It would be awesome.
