OK some quick impressions of stuff I saw:

Company of Heroes 2 - Only a very short mission with a few units, so I couldn't get a real feel for the game, but what I played was very enjoyable - enemies try to out-manuever and flank nicely, the weather effects are nice and the game SOUNDS gorgeous too. Can't wait for the beta!

Assassin's Creed III - I only had a chance to play the ship combat demo, but it was bloody brilliant! The ship was simple and fun to control & I had a blast sending waves of cannonballs into other ships. Looking forward to playing the main demo.

Assassin's Creed: Liberation - Really does feel like a full title, which is great. The world seems less populated, as you'd expect but it's a lot of fun. I only got a few minutes on this as I had to dash out and give my OH her wristband so she could get in, but I'll probably end up giving it another go over the weekend.

Dishonored - Played this early in the morning and it left me cold because the demo kind of throws a million powers at you and gives you the mission to assassinate a target - which overwhelmed me a bit and caused me to die. Lots. But I went back to it later in the day and gave it another go. This game is going to be fucking awesome. The powers are really interesting and offer a lot of different play opportunities. Honestly, I think the game feels like somebody took Bioshock and made it incredible. The art direction is predictably amazing too.

DmC - I've never been a huge fan of this sort of game, to be honest. The graphics were really odd. I couldn't figure out if they were bad or if it's just me but I couldn't get into it.
The combat seemed solid and enjoyable enough but the platforming was pretty hit & miss.

Hitman - Another game that I need to give another try. It felt a lot more like Hitman than I dared dream, but I didn't really get a chance to scope out the level and play it like Hitman, so I ended up slaughtering the target in plain sight whilst he was peeing next to a cop and spent the next 10 minutes trying to flee whilst being gunned down. Excellent

Metal Gear Rising - Hugely disappointing, if I'm honest. Movement felt really janky and I didn't enjoy the 'freecut' thing either so this left me totally cold.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted - I really enjoyed the demo of this. Feels like a solid racer - a lot like Burnout, as expected. Some of the multiplayer modes, such as Speed Camera (or whatever it's called) mixed together was fun but I'm still worried that being an open-world racer is going to be as annoying as I found it in Burnout Paradise - I don't want to have to drive around to find races. I like menus.

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale - Obviously felt like Smash Bros except less refined. I don't think the movesets are as good as in SSBM/B - all the characters just seem to have loads of generic hits, as opposed to in SSB where everyone really does feel individual. I'll be giving this a miss.

Prison Architect - Only watched Spookie play this, and it was the same tutorial I played at Rezzed but seeing it again reminded me how much I need to pre-order this. Done. Get this freakin' game.

Tomb Raider - I'm not sure how I feel about this game. The first half of the demo was very much 'Walk on this pre-defined path which you can't really deviate from', but it had a glimpse of a more open level where you have to shoot a deer and go back to camp to cook the meat. If this game has plenty more of that, and not too much of the 'one path' gameplay, then I'll end up loving it, but I suspect that's not gonna be the case :( Lara also comes off sounding like a fucking idiot most of the time she speaks up "Oh look, that guys bag is here... maybe he came this way?" "Oh look, a bow! I wonder if it still works?!"

Wonderbook: Book of Spells - I didn't play this, but the depressed looks of those who had been tempted in by Sony's booth babes said enough to keep me away. What the fuck, Sony?

The Wonderful 101 - Really fun introduction to the Wii U, but I had no idea what the hell I was doing! I think I'd need a good couple of hours with this game to really get into it, but it definitely feels solid, polished and I can see it being an early favourite on the system.

I thought I'd got around too much today, really - but looking at the list of games I've yet to play is exciting - with dev sessions I don't think I'll find it hard to fill all 4 days. I just hope there's more swag on offer over the next few!

What are the freebies like? :p Any tips on where to go to get the best stuff?

Not a lot of freebies.
CoH2 beta key for playing, Hitman toy for playing, you have to ask for shirts if you want one - not sure who has any. I didn't get a single one today. The CoH2 and Dishonored guys said if I ask early enough tomorrow I'll probably get one of each so here's hoping

Today was the first time I'd been to a convention, and had a cracker of a day! Got into the Kojima panel, which was pretty cool, and it actually dispelled a few myths that've been floating round since the unveiling of Ground Zeroes...

1) The "prologue" comments have been WAY outta context. They were talking about the demo that was shown being the prologue to the full game.

2) He's not having any direct input on the movie's script or casting, but he wants to cast a newbie as Snake, to give them their break in the business.

3) He was asked by the president of Konami to make the next Silent Hill game, but he said no. For now.

4) He'd love to go back to Snatcher or Policenauts but there's just no demand for it :(

5) The base/weapon upgrade mechanics from Peace Walker will feature in GZ.

After that, I got to play a few games!

Rising

Loved it. Absolutely mental. Running at a constant 60fps on the PS3, it's like butter. Managed to finish the demo and get one of the cool lenticular posters as well :)

Assassin's Creed 3

The boat stuff was interesting, nice of them to show off the new mechanics and stuff quite well, would've been nice to get stuck in to some proper close combat though!

Unfinished Swan

I'd heard a lot about this game but not seen anything before today. I'm blown away, a definite purchase. Brilliant concept!

Hitman

Looks like it could reignite my interest in the franchise. Well put together and a good demo to show off the different methods of assassination. It's a very difficult game to get a vertical slice of though

Also played some Tekken Tag 2, PES 2013 (whupped my mate 4-0 and got a t shirt), Far Cry 3 (Eh, more Far Cry), and Carmageddon iOS.

Picked up a plush Companion Cube, Play Arts Cyborg Ninja, some Mario coin sweets and a couple of posters.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to bed!

Time for day 2!
Heading into London in about 5 minutes - wish me luck, as I'm driving today!

Today I'm on the hunt for swag!

Any word or showing of the vita version?

I can't believe I was up after 4 hours sleep to drive down today.

If you see someone asleep in the retro zone in a grim fandango t shirt then it's more than likely me!

I didn't have a good a time this year compared to the past two years, not getting to see Kojima didn't help. Rising was probably the only game I had fun playing.

Also a guy killed himself by jumping in front of the train I was meant to get, so I was like 2 hours late. Suicide really is selfish.

I lined up to see Kojima almost an hour before and still didn't get in.
Just how long were some of the people queuing!?
The fact they didn't stream it was bullshit.

Had a good time overall though, got masses of Streetpasses, tried out the Wii U for the first time and owned some people on Powerstone 2.
The Retro Zone was great (though the choice of titles on some consoles was a little 'ehhh') and I finally got to play a 3DO and Jaguar.
I'll definitely go back next year :)

Fuck. I thought I bought an afternoon ticket and I actually bought a full day one. On my way there now, but I only live in zone 3 so it won't take long. Fuckitty fuck fuck.

My impressions:

Assassin's Creed Liberation - A few minor frame-rate drops but the game looked and controlled nice. The foundations for a good game are here.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate - I played this for a minute or two and the game felt ok, but was uuuugly. There were so many jaggies everywhere and switching from 3D to 2D didn't add any AA.

Company of Heroes 2 - I haven't played the first one and tried to play this like StarCraft which didn't work out too well. Seemed decent and they gave out free beta keys to people who played.

Dishonored - The demo is a bit overwhelming because you're given so many abilities and not much direction or context. The combat seemed pretty good and the stealth was decent.

Devil May Cry - It was a bit better than I thought it'd be, the game looks nice and the combat is ok. 30fps felt really yucky but I think playing at 60/120fps on PC will be a good experience. I can see the platform sections getting a bit tedious, but they weren't amazing in the previous DMC games either.

DOOM 3 BFG Edition - This was playable in stereoscopic 3D and was my first experience with 3D games outside of the 3DS. The depth is quite nice for a game like Doom 3, but the demo stations weren't configured very well and made the game even darker than normal, and when it's Doom 3 we're talking about you don't want things any darker.

Far Cry 3 - Nothing really notable about the game. The game was running on PCs, with KB+M and 360 controllers attached, it was sad when I looked down my row and saw I was the only person using KB+M.

Luigi's Mansion 2 - Felt close to the first game and looks decent, but there are a lot of jaggies and no AA when switching to 2D mode either.

Metal Gear Rising - Was very cool but it takes a lot of getting used to. It feels completely different to Bayonetta/DMC/Ninja Gaiden. I struggled against the boss because it took me a while to work out how to parry.

NSMBU - I played through all three levels. Controlled well and looked really nice, not much else to say.

Nintendoland - I only played the Donkey Kong mini-game and it was boring and gimmicky. I watched people play the other mini-games and they didn't look very fun.

Pikmin 3 - Games looks really nice, way better than Pikmin 1/2 and controls really nicely too.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale - Big disappointment for me. The character's moves all feel really generic and hitting people doesn't feel very satisfying. I also still don't see how this game will work when you're playing 1v1.

Professor Layton 5 - Looks good, but I still prefer 2D sprites to 3D models.

Rayman Legends - The Murphy sections are disappointing and gimmicky, hopefully they're kept to a minimum in the actual game. The 'normal' part I tried was fun and felt just like Origins.

Wonderful 101 - This was a nice surprise as it's not even listed on Eurogamer's site. It looks good and feels really nice to play, like a real Platinum game. My only issue is that the screen looks really chaotic and it's hard to see who the main person you're controlling is, but that's something you'll probably get used to when you play it enough. I also brought up a menu where I could switch around my lead character and the other heroes all had different stats so it looks like there will be a lot of depth in the game.

Zone of the Enders HD Collection - I was going to play it, but there were a lot of frame-rate drops when I was watching other people playing so I left it.

I wanted to play Halo 4, Crysis 3, Aliens Colonial Marines and Gears of War Judgment single-player demos, but there were only multiplayer ones so I didn't bother. Metal Gear Rising had a really long queue (over an hour) later in the day, but I went early and only had to wait 20 minutes. ZombiU had a 2 hour queue very early on, and I didn't want to play it enough to wait that long, if you do want to play it make sure you go as early as possible. There were barely any freebies compared to last year, this year I got a CoH2 beta key and that's it, last year I got a CS:GO key and 6 shirts, there was a Metal Gear Rising shirt that you could only get if you pre-ordered the game there. I saw more people wearing 2011 Expo shirts than 2012 Expo shirts. Overall last year was a lot better in terms of games and the experience.

No real impressions for me but I've really enjoyed Eurogamer. Phone reception in the place was crap though :/ could barely use my phone on twitter or anything most of the last 2 days.

Well I have been going these past 2 days and I've got mixed feelings, mainly because I was looking for some things more-developer oriented, when actually it's WAY more for gamers. Also it's kind of impossible to get in the developer sessions if you're hoping to queue an hour before the event...

Anyway, I tried some of the games already, and the Wii U too :p

The Wii U was fun to play (in every game I tried, for better or for worse). The game pad (not tablet, as many people of the stand tried to correct as I said it) is surprisingly light! Even though it had security wires and stuff, it looked like it could be definitely comfortable when carried around.

NSMBU is the same thing as NSMBWii, with some tweaks and HD parafernalia, but not much.

Trine 2 had touch controls and everything, but nothing too exciting.

Rayman Legends was awesome! I played the level they showed in E3 but without music, so... :/

The Wonderful 101 looks pretty cool, and I wouldn't blame Platinum if they made this game the next Viewtiful Joe, since the main character guy moves EXACTLY LIKE HIM. Movements, jump and double jump... it's too obvious, but I really doubt Capcpom (lol!) is gonna complain.

Aside from that, other games I played where Smash Br... ehh PS All Stars BR, Tomb Raider a.k.a Uncharted with boobs, Tekken Tag 2 and Sly 4.

OH and I got a 3D MGRising poster after playing :)
Not bad expo, just not exactly what I expected.

Went to the expo today and played a few games:

MGS:R : game was lightning fast on the PS3, but despite the excellent design its obvious where they have had to make graphical comprimises to get the game running at 60 fps: jaggies were prominant as were low res textures. It still looked pretty good overall though, mainly due to the art direction. Alot of what would be consider basic maneuvers such as blocking and dashing weren't immediately intuitive, but like all platinum games it's easily to look flash, even when you are pretty crap (like I was).

Hitman : Looks pretty nice on PS3, although I am becoming less and less enamoured with the low res textures that even the top games retain this gen. Gameplay wise I tried to take a sneaky approach and ended up beating down a pedestrian by mistake and got shot up by the police.

God of War The new GoW looks slightly more impressive than the previous incarnation, but, at least on the TV I was playing, was surprisingly jaggy. My inclination is to put it down to the TV's configuration considering how clean GOW 3 was. Game was extremely smooth and animates fantastically. It just feels good. Violance is over the top, but then Kratos is an idiot. Hopefully this is his last game.

DmC Game looks good and controls pretty well on PS3. Only played for a short while, but seemed pretty smooth.

Sly 4 This game surprised me. It looks VERY nice on PS3, and there are almost no jaggies whatsoever. On Vita it is easlly one of the best looking game's on the system, but the game feels floaty. Its not fast paced on there that's for sure. Very likely to buy this, most likely for Vita or PS3 with vita download.

AC Liberation This controlled well and looked very nice on Vita. Seems like a good fit to me.

Saw unfinished Swan, that game has a fantastic Aesthetic. Crysis 3 looks very similar to Crysis 2, although I didn't play it. Pity Last of Us wasn't there...

I played 2 multiplayer games of XCOM with Spookie today.

He decimated me in the first match, winning a t-shirt, but in the second match I flanked him with a disc and forced him to suicide with a rocket. The only honorable death left to him.

I was ill today so I sadly didn't go. :(

I was looking forward in playing a bunch of stuff, but more importantly it's a waste of a tenner.

Hey dude - was fucking awesome hanging out with you this year. Suz and I had a great time with ya. We'll definitely have to do a meetup again sometime soon!

Don't worry about the CoH2 session - it was filmed by Relic and I'm pretty sure they're going to be showing it soon. Hit me up on Steam for a blow-by-blow if you want :)

I walked past you at some point in time!

Although I've had a lot of fun trying new games, I had an absolutely brilliant time rallying people into playing massive multiplayer games of Saturn Bomberman with me. Most players I've managed so far is eight (out of ten) but it's insanely good fun.

...shame I seem to be the only person who takes the time to sort out the spaghetti junction of ten controller cables though :|

Day 3 was awesome, by the way.

Saw Spookie and Radiohead Tom again - though Tom only briefly :(

Watched The Cave for ages - this game is gorgeous, the animations are extremely well done and the demo puzzle was pretty fun & funny. Will enjoy playing this when it comes out.

Yeah, to be honest, it was the mess of controllers that put us off!

Maybe today.

Hahahah, yeah - after I did sort them and wind up the controllers in numerical order, people just tangled them again within ten minutes :|

Wow. I did literally spend half my time in the WiiU area.

Well I feel I got my money's worth. If I really wanted to see more I really would have need to go two days. The queues were quite ridiculous, especially in the 18+ area.

Didn't even bother with Rising when it said it could be an hours wait and from what I saw they had run out of 3D posters.

They still had posters at 6:45, they only gave them to people who beat the boss.

I never bothered with WiiU in the end, the queue was big even with early entry. I used my early entry to play the other games that were likely to get big queues later on.

Ended up playing everything I was interested in, and didn't waste any time looking at the same old shit like COD, MOH, or FIFA.

I managed to play a lot of Wii U (includig getting in pretty quickly in the last hour of today).

I also managed to accomplish what I set out to do, which was to decide which Wii U I will be purchasing (basic model), which game I will buy with it and which I will ask for for Christmas (Rayman Legends and NSMBU respectively), as well as to play the other games I "wanted" to see if that was still the case.

Ratchet and Clank is sadly a no for me, as was Ni No Kuni. Sly Cooper I will buy but not at launch. The rest of my "wants" that were there (the aforementioned Rayman/NSMBU, Pikmin 3, Luigi's Mansion, Tokyo Jungle) will be definites at or soon after launch.

OH, and The Cave. That was brill. Shame I only managed to get three of the figures; I really wanted The Hillbilly but no such luck. Still happy with The Scientist, The Adventurer and The Knight, though!

Plus I got to play a lot of old games and meet some friends from both on and offline. Good times!

I was guessing if they still had them it would be something like that. The queue was long and due to the no time limit aspect it was rather unpredictable. I watched a bit and then went to look at other things.

In the last 10 minutes I was bored to I completed Super Mario World and left the credits rolling.

Really? it sound weird. Maybe the build not use any AA yet? E3 trailers was really clean. About DMC I'm surprised too. Don't suffer of any tearing on ps3 & smoother too with UE3? Seems too much a dream to be true.

I played God of War yesterday - first time I've played a GoW game that wasn't on PSP.
Looked a bit better than what I've seen of friends showing me God of War 3 as far as textures go - even up close.

Gameplay was really enjoyable. I kinda hope Sony put GoW3 up as a PSPlus game in the near future...

EDIT: Oh god, I forgot to play Sly. WTF, MIKE?! YOU HAD 4 FUCKING DAYS!!!!

Well back home now and I must say as my first experience at the EG expo (and first at any sort of games convention) I hugely enjoyed myself! ^_^

I managed to play most of what I wanted to, and some personal highlights for me was seeing the Hideo Kojima panel and upon leaving having the man walk out and see him right in front of me; I basically geeked out right there. I also got a signed poster and photo with David Vonderhaar from Treyarch after playing Black Ops II. As an aside aswell, alot of the cosplay at the event was actually really good, and I enjoyed talking to like minded people in some of the queues for the games :)

As a first time at an expo like this I felt that some games, although I loved the chance to play them, perhaps do not demo well at busy public events like this such as Dishonored and Hitman, seeing as they are both methodical stealth games, but you are mindful of the time you are taking and the queue behind you and the time you'll need to queue for whatever you see next.

I'll probably post some impressions later but I can say the game I enjoyed play most was Metal Gear Rising, my most impressed by was Far Cry 3 (as I had no expectations for it), and my most disappointing was Tomb Raider.

I think the coolest thing was going straight from playing Rising for the first time, to playing Metal Gear on the MSX for the first time. I've played through it in Subsistence, but I'd never used an MSX before, that was a really cool moment.

I'm surprised they had Snake's Revenge there though.

Bit soppy, but the best part of the expo for me was meeting up with some cool geeks, chatting relentlessly about the games industry and eating delicious wagamamas.

Sounds exactly like our weekend!

We filled the evening with 4 hour games of fortune street on the wii just to make it all the more nerdier.

Had a good time at the Expo, didn't get a chance to meet up with anybody unfortunately twas bit of a manic day.

I got to play all the games i wanted to try out which is a bonus, didn't bother to wait in line for the WiiU though, im not that interested in picking it up so it wasn't top of my list. I cant believe how big the controller is though obviously i don't know what it weighs but i cant imagine anything over a few hours being good for your wrists.

Freaking loved MG Rising, it definitely had its issues but its fucking fun, using the sword in free slice modes to cut up dudes into hundreds of pieces is strangely satisfying and hilarious. managed to get my self one of the 3D posters and metal gear pens for finishing the demo :D

As much as i hate the new Dante DMC looked OK, didn't play it myself but watched my mate go through the demo it shows some promise.

overall i enjoyed myself quite alot, it seems to be getting busier every year so i think next year im going to have to do a 2 dayer.
