Resident Evil 6 - Review Thread | Activist Reviews and the Hate Patrol Destroy Truth™

I'm not "upset" as I bought the game on a whim and I'm not a fan of Resident Evil games, but merely calling a spade a spade.

According to Gamespot this game is worse than Haze and as bad as LAIR and Sonic 2006. I don't think that's fair.

Based on the demo I'd say it's about Lair levels of crummines

And the streams I've watched suggest Sonic 2006 level of cutscenes

What does Jeff mean by this? Caveats?

Definitely seems like there was just way too many people working on the game, and there was no coherent vision. 600 people working on this game is fucking insane.

PR demands - who knows... maybe they couldn't talk about the storylines in depth, or couldn't talk about the QTEs. I'm sure it's a gameplay element that was gagged.

Wow @ Kevin VanOrd's review of the game. I'll be staying away from this one. Sad to see what the RE franchise has become.

Wow this game is getting tore up.

So..Exclusive review plus marketing = Good Review. Legit Review = Decent to Terrible game?

This seems to be the case, from my understanding. I'm sure Famitsu is no longer a place for critical objectivity for games, but it seems many other sites that have big stuff planned for RE6 marketing seem to be the major sites with high scores for the title. I'm absolutely amazed that it's getting so many low scores, considering the staff numbers behind the game.

I'm also reminded of Kamiya's views on big teams, and I imagine he's grinning now.

I bet this will be a game that gets mixed reviews but but will eventually fall into the Dragon Age 2 hole of just being shit. Hype and fanboyism can boost a score a lot of the time.

We've both played it. I'd like to know what they played to come to that comparison.
It's that guy who docked uncharted for being linear. Seems to entertain some kind of a weird relationship/fascination with the series. Not surprised he'd bust out some awkward reference to it.
In any case, you could scratch that reference and identically replace it by: "it's too goddam linear," which appears to be essentially synonymous with "it's uncharted" in his mind.

People will still buy it, a lot of them will proceed to complain about it on the internet, but that's irrelevant at that point, because capcom already got their money.
Exactly. I don't see any reason to feel bad for Capcom, they did this to themselves and they'll probably still be happy with the results. It's not like they care about quality when it comes to this franchise anyway (Operation Racoon City).

Or, you could play it and make up your own mind. You never know, you might find some redeeming qualities underneath the flaws if you keep your mind open.

$60 is a high price to ask for the possibility that he may enjoy it if everything he's reading is not to his taste.

I'm not sure I understand these scores. The game I played in the Resident Evil 6 Demo is DEMONSTRABLY better than Resident Evil 5 was. There seems to be a disconnect (in the scores of then vs. now).

The game is nowhere near Resident Evil 4 though.

The same guy who was so hung up on the linearity he didn't notice that the shooting in Uncharted 3 was busted.

I wish DA2 got the scores RE6 is getting. But EA was behind that and they can be a lot more volatile towards negative reviews than Capcom can probably be.

Destructoid quote. Whoooooo boy....

Destructoid said:
It's bad enough that the game -- at its very best -- is so pedestrian, but to screw up in areas that even third-rate shooters manage to get right is something Capcom should find degrading. It's not enough to say that Resident Evil 6 is poor as a Resident Evil game. That alone implies there could be a quality experience if fans can get past their preconceptions and feelings of betrayal. No, Resident Evil 6 is poor by the standards of any game, not just the high ones set by its own legacy. This is unexceptional tripe that becomes insulting once the woeful missteps come into play. Resident Evil 6 is not just a step back for the series, it's a step back for common garden, unassuming action-shooters.

If any consistently good thing can be said of Resident Evil 6, it's that it has made Paul W.S. Anderson's film adaptations look like fine works of art in comparison.

I dunno, if the game was getting like 7.5-8's across the board I might agree. You have to have a really bad game to get these kinds of scores in the video games industry.
