The Sin City one is pretty wild. Looks so strange in colour.
I was really having trouble with that one.
Great thread; love this stuff, even when it destroys the "magic."
i could not disagree more, its shows how much magic there used to be!
The doofuses behind the Power Ranger movie thought it would be a good idea to have no visor for the helmets.
Which really fucked with the whole "secret identity" thing they had going on in the show.
The fuck? They had visors in the movie.
For everyone wondering about that shot from The Gate, I could be totally off base but to me it looks like an off center forced perspective shot. I've done a quick shitty MS paint job to illustrate:
The red outline is for the stuff that is in front of the shot and the guys in the demon suits on the "floor" are in the background. If you can imagine moving a few feet (or whatever, I have no idea how much this shot is off by) to the left and seeing all the elements in the shot lining up.
As I said I could be 100% wrong but that's what it looks like to me at least.
Edit: Although the thought of them making a huge oversize blue hoodie just for the shot is fairly amusing

26 seconds in. You can see the door is split underneath the knob. But... I still don't understand why that whole split was needed. Weird.
Wow this thread is so great. Too many different awesome posts to comment on. A lot of this also reinforces my belief of practical effects > CG effects.
I don't understand why the forced perspective was needed here. I really want to see this scene.
It's from a 1987 movie called "The Gate"
Yeah I know. They had a whole lot of reshooting to do.
I don't think anyone knows where all of that visor-less footage went.
