TOKYO JUNGLE |OT| The world began without man...and it will end without him.

Oh bummer, the new DLC animals aren't discounted for PSN+ memebers? I didn't expect them to be free, but I expected a little discount or something. Oh well, I can wait until I unlock all of the other animals to get them. Hopefully there will be a DLC sale at some point.

Just downloaded all the new costumes. Can't wait to have a Horse running around with a Patapon on it's back.

The game getting a discount in the first place was a pleasant surprise.
getting the first 4 creatures for free even better and way more then I expected in general so no more discounts isn't a big deal to me.
Normally the type of DLC this is I wouldn't even bother, yes I would love to play as the roo, but normally I wouldn't buy this stuff. I have already logged a ton of time with the game though and didn't mind the idea of spending $2.50 on some more creatures just to help send the message that games like this can sell in hopes we will see another game like this some day.

Did the JPN version have DLC or was it included on the disc?

It is fair enough if they didn't have to pay considering it was a full retail title over there.

Still, even while Tokyo Jungle has some design decisions I don't necessarily agree with (the way story chapters unlock, the way characters unlock and the levels/environments not being randomly generated), it's still a lot of fun to play. :)
I thought the same at first, but I think there's something to be said about learning the layout of the city. This simply works better with the (admittedly broken) challenge system. Otherwise, you'd probably spend half the game staring at the map screen.
Plus, it might help make it feel more like a real place than yet another random dungeon.

Well, I can confirm that the game doesn't give you anything for keeping a carnivore alive 150 years.

I cal also confirm that (post-100)
in addition to the first soft killscreen at near 100-105 when all spawns are replaced with Homo Erectus, there's a second, harder killscreen at 120 where map present boxes no longer respawn. (Ones that were already spawned but ignored may still be there waiting.) There is exactly one place in the game with forcespawned present boxes, though; every time you clear the underground the three boxes at the end will autospawn with top-tier loot. If you've got a good enough speed/hunger combo--I used stock evil Aibo with heart shades/necklace and one chicken breast because I was playing around with him and just never died--you can continue looping through the underground as long as you get at least one Magazine or Primo Pet Food out of the three boxes, which can only drop those, 16 Oz. Water, Pet Medicine (L), Nail Files, and Portable Beds.

There may be a third, 'just go the fuck away' kill screen at 150. I made two passes after that and got nothing but files and beds. But that could have been just bad luck with drops.

*and the rest...*

Nice!

The endgame (which, like you said, seems bored of you at that point), I find to be really fascinating. I do find it to be quite the slog to make it back up to that point now, though. I typically find the 70-100 region to be really slow-going.

Those new animals look nice but the giraffe has like 600 life. I'd feel a bit cheap buying it now since im only at the cheetah in terms of unlocks (been too busy with doa5). Not a fan of dlc thats already in the game....but its only £1.19 for the lot. Might buy once I've got further in the game since I dont want to ruin it by easily becoming overpowered.

Yeah I've recently made it to 117 as Dilophosaurus, mainly due to have gear on that slowed down hunger like the tuxedo and stuff but I'm hoping if they make a TJ2 that in the story
we get to take back Tokyo from Homo Erectus, by eating those bastards.

Wait you can play as a dinosaur? Damnnnnn.

If there's one that I dont like about this game it's the pollution. I'll leave one area of pollution, be safe and then it'll ad pollution to the place im currently in and the next place in a row.

AND THEN ON TOP OF THAT IM ATTACKED BY (Only year 40 spoilers)
ROBOT FUCKING DOGS I CAN'T EAT
RAGEEEEEEEEEEEEE

So I've got an open challenge "Take over Shibuya Station" and "Win over a mate", but I've already done both and can't do it again. Is this a bug?

You have to be aware of the parameteres for a challenge. (ie. If you took over Shibuya Station at 9 years old, and the challenge required you to be at least 11 years old, taking over the station at 9 years will not count). Always check when you are able to start a challenge and be aware of the challenges you have coming up so you don't run into this situation.

It just says "Completed 3 challenges" as the Active Cond... I guess I must've completed 4 beforehand.

This is really stupid I have to say, but also very typical for Japanese game design. Ah well.

I've gone through three playthroughs now where I've missed a single challenge. All three were kill x amount of creatures, and all three failed because food just goes suddenly goes scarce, aside from bigger animals that take a bit to bring down, of course. Looking for something to kill? Here's some bears. Troll Jungle imo.

As an aside, this story mode is actually pretty entertaining so far. How the hell

Yeah, is there actually any way to have the population restore itself? It's frustrating to lose those challenges just because all nearby areas are emptied out...

Sleeping rerolls conditions sometimes. But sometimes, the RNG just hates you, that's the joy and/or definition of roguelikes.

Wow. Started playing and WTF. You really don't want to do much of anything year 1. WTF is with that? Even with that WTF design decision, GotY 2012.

Loving this game.

Still starting out (unlocked the cat and the beagle) so I haven't experienced much.

I do enjoy the sheer terror when your pomeranian is scavenging for food while trying to make it to a food populated area, and turning a corner to find yourself witnessing a tiger and an alligator approaching

...or kill a dog only to find its actually a hyena and become savagely hunted through the sewers by its pack, finally make it above ground where you're face to face with a lion and certain death.

Is there anything special I need to do to unlock act 14? I got one USB, thought that was it. It was the only one on my map, anyway. Didn't unlock the act for me though. What am I missing?

e: Ahh, never mind. More USBs in the sewers.

Still balancing this between Dishonored and Pokemon.

God, that 2nd hyena mission was awful. Though the mission after that made up for it with boatloads of awesome.

If you have a cat, you too can invoke challenge mode.

Damn, the crocodile is just a big-fat win button!

It's an absolute tank, albeit, a slow moving one.
The croc rocks! Only problem I've had playing as them is that they have bad accuracy hunting x.x I've tried tackling rabbits in an open space and still miss sometimes. The stamina jerkies really come in handy when you need to dash somewhere. Wish they had a bigger hunger stat too, I need to work on finding equips and stat building I guess ^^;

Nothing can stop the swag of my tuxedo croc!

Cheetahs and lions are surprisingly susceptible to one-hit kills.

I guess it depends on the creature's durability(i.e. hippos and buffalo).

Yeah, I was shocked by this. I got one-shotted twice by Beagles when I first unlocked the Cheetah. They start with only 15 hunger, too. They're really freakin fast, though.

I finished story mode on this last night and...
it's so sad. :(

Also, unlocking the cheetah is a pain in the ass. Even doing multiplayer it's a ridiculous piece of shit in some areas because they'll detect you from so far away and just bolt to your face. Wife and I have tried entirely too many times and always meet in failure for one reason or another.
