Doom 3 BFG edition. Anyone excited for this?

played doom 2 today. looks the same as it did back when it was released. oh and no full screen support. a tiny 4:3 ratio screen.

if you guys are expecting a hd make over for doom 1 and 2.......its not. not even close. it isnt even full screen!

:/

Thanks.
I hoped for filters or something. And fullscreen of course. And I meant on PS3, Doom1/2 was not available before on that console (unless via homebrew), that's why I was asking.

Will keep playing my GBA version then :p

Isn't the XBLA version 16:9? That is kind weird and surprising if it is 4:3, 60 fps or not.

BTW, I am playing Doom 3 on the original Xbox right now and I still am astonished by how good it looks. Butter smooth 30 fps all the way and the assets are surprisingly good. Of course there are sacrifices but overall it was a very good product. If only I could still play the co-op mode online :/

4-player splitscreen is confirmed though right?

Wonder if the editions included in the PC version will just be DOSbox, or even just codes for the Steam versions (gifts if you already own them on Steam).

Anyway, so we confirmed DOOM 3 will run at 60 on console in BFG Edition?

Doom 3 BFG does indeed run at 60fps with some minor frame drops. screen tearing in certain areas. 3D is meh with plenty of cross talk.

haven't tried 4 player co op so I cant comment on that.

If it included Doom RPG, I would buy it Day 1. The fact that was never released outside antiquated smartphones was criminal. It was a laugh riot, if excessively easy.

QUESTION FOR PEOPLE PLAYING DOOM 1 AND 2.

Please answer my question very precisely. This is what decides if I buy this game or not.

Are the controls well made or shite like the XBLA version?

Let me explain, are the weapon change button having a buffer like if you're on the chainsaw and press 3 times "next weapon" very fast, do I end up directly on the machine gun or the game needs to stupidely pass to the gun, the shotgun and then reach the machine gun?

Wait this is 60fps ohhh man i might have to get this, this pushed my pc rig to the fucking max the day it came out and i couldnt get 60fps unless i knocked things down.

Worth noting that despite initially claiming you'll be able to select whether you want to have a mounted flashlight on your gun or not, they have decided to scrap the option of choosing (as far as I can tell).

If you can't play zDoom how will your PC run Doom 3? =/

Haha I just don't get this fixation on iD providing a new version of the game. If your PC can run a browser, it can run zDoom. And if your PC was made in the last 5 years it can be hooked up to your TV and a controller and zDoom works wonderfully with both while running at 60 or 120 fps and a pixel perfect 1080p with proper fov for widescreen.

The consoles are already hooked up to the TV, don't require downloading and installing external software, don't require shifting WADs, don't require additional configuration, etc. People really underestimate how appealing the simplicity of consoles is.

The brightness on that walk through looks as if it's due to a bad gamma setting. At least I hope it is. It looks pretty damn terrible.

not that i like split screen at all (last time i played Doom at home it was two player on 360 with each person on a different console and display), but does zdoom do 4 player split screen? some people like that can of thing and it is part of what the devs specifically mention as being cool about it.

So is crosstalk the issue? The hmz-t1 I use doesn't suffer from that issue. I wonder how it will look?

Crosstalk pretty much varies with set. I'm not sure their are any HDTVs that don't suffer significantly from it. Good PC monitors are better. DLPs better yet. And obviously the HMZ totally immune. Wouldn't put too much stock into one user experience.

Yeah, while it won't have the wrap around view of the Rift, it will at least offer crosstalk free 3D well suited for Doom 3. The use of OLED displays means complete darkness.

I'll probably pick it up when its in a sale on play or zavvi etc.

Doom 3 was kinda boring to be honest. All I remember was how it kept spawning enemies behind you, which was more annoying that scary. ROE was a lot better, felt like there was more action.

No co-op would be really disappointing but 3D is welcome.

I played the shareware version of Doom as an elementary school kid. One of my all time fav, I can still remember the maps clearly in my mind today.

A couple of years ago spotted a nice Doom 3 sale and bought it.
What a disappointment.
I don't care much about graphics so maybe I missed on the enjoyement to a degree. But apart from that, the game is just plain and simple a borefest. I felt bored 2hours into the game and was just waiting for it to finish....well, it didn't...the game stretched into eternity for me. In the end only my stubborn nature kept me going.

This game has one of the laziest level design I've ever seen, the enemies charge you from the same positions ALL THE TIME. How am I supposed to be scared or stressed if I know EXACTLY where and when the demons are going to spawn each time I entered a new room?! One on the left, one on the right and then, my favorite, "surprise" attack from behind... I don't even want to talk about the weapons (THE SHOTGUN!!!!!! :puke:)

I really couldn't give this game more than 3/10.
I have no idea why anyone would want to pay money to play such an uninspired game all over again, even in 3d.

Maybe I was just in a bad mood for FPS when I played it so I apologize to all the GAF Doom 3 fans.

In the time it took you to formulate that post and then write and then walk over to your console to boot Doom and appreciate how wonderfully easy it is, I could have taken a laptop downloaded zDoom, grabbed the wad files, hooked it up to a TV and have the controller+1080p set up. People really overestimate how hard these things are and prefer to just whine for a couple years after they get a shit port of the game on XBLA and hope for iD to waste their time just replicating work that has already been done in about 10 different sourceports.

Best quality video I think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_ZvR0tkSgU

You can see the redesigned (for the better) PDA.

The mood-breaking-gameplay-stopping auto-checkpoints.

And the flashlight doesn't seem to cast shadows anymore, lol. I hope it's different for the PC version.

The flash light is terrible in the game. I cant really explain it, im sure dark10x would be better at explaining what I mean, but the flashlight doesnt not cast any shadows, and it has a high contrast harsh look to it, looks pretty ugly. not to mention everytime you turn on the flash light the screen tears like you wouldn't believe.

Not just the cross talk, but all guns are equipped with a laser sight when you enable 3D, and the depth settings is very disorienting. its impossible to judge where to aim with the laser sight as its basically a red line pasted on your gun and with no sense of depth. god I cant express my self for shit today....

I just woke up thought lol

Probably, but it would be nice...steamworks integration or something.

Well if BFG Edition is indeed Steamworks I would expect this. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if buying it on PC just came with copies of the DOOM 1 and 2 games already on Steam, or if you already own them there, gifts.

The flashlight didn't cast shadows in the original Xbox version either.

Well, let me qualify that a bit. Your flashlight didn't cast a shadow, but if you were playing co-op, your buddy's flashlight cast shadows everywhere. It was rather impressive, actually, and makes me question why they removed the shadows from the first-person flashlight.

I'm actually stunned and extremely disappointed that it doesn't cast shadows in the BFG console versions. I understod it on the original Xbox, but now it seems an unnecessary downgrade.

I'm pretty sure it casts shadows even in the single player portion. You just never happen to see them because of the POV. Well, you can see them, but you have to work for it. Same thing goes on in the PC version AFAIK. Wouldn't surprise me if BFG is the same.
