Mega Man 25th Anniversary Playthrough Topic of Stealing Other Thread Ideas

Despite having done no-hit runs of MM1-10, I've never done a speedrun. Hell, I've never even SEEN a speedrun.

So this video is really cool, thanks for sharing! I love how carefree you are about getting hit sometimes, hahaha.

Mega Man 3 is my favorite game in the series. I love everything about it. I've probably beaten the game at least 75 times. I had it memorized as a kid and when I came back to it as an adult the only thing I could do was speed run it. It was never anything that great and I never had any way to record it, but it's fun seeing things I discovered on my own to save time used in actual speed runs that are good. And by the same token, watching speed runs definitely helps out to play the game.

I look forward to the day I can play MM3 on my 3DS. It will be a glorious day.

I've really been dying to play 5 again, even if level design got frequently compromized in favor of too-little-too-late gimmicky NES tech tricks and the weapons were junk.

Charge Man and the castle stages had some of my favorite music.

5 was the last one I beat a couple months back! Had a good time with it!

Either I'm just sucking today, or MM4 seems a lot harder than 3.

Back in the day MM1-3 were always the hard ones for me (and most people from what I could tell). MM4-6 were always considered the super easy one. But I coasted through 2 and 3. But 4 is kicking my ass, specifically that asshole fish in Toad Man's stage, hahaha.

I just bought Mega Man Zero Collection for DS (because if I like it I will be buying all 4 of them on GBA).

I want to know if I love these games, will I love ZX and ZX Advent?

Are they still making DS games?? Any chance for a ZX collection for DS or 3DS???

Also if anyone would be willing to answer a fourth question...I liked the first 6 Mega Man X games, will I like 7 or 8 and should I get the X Collection????

ZX games are pretty similar to Zero games in terms of mechanics, but the Metroidvania style of the games don't make them as fun, in my opinion. Too much backtracking, and especially in the first one, lots of time getting lost and trying to figure out where you're going.

They don't seem to be making any more Mega Man games period, let alone ones for DS/3DS. Capcom sucks.

X8 is good and worth playing. X7 is one of the worst Mega Man games of all-time. But pick it up if you can find it for around $5, it's worth at least a playthrough since it has some interesting stuff in it.

Darn, I'm falling behind. I just beat MM2 for the first time this weekend. Here is the part where I actually beat the game.
One thing that stuck with me is how obviously broken metal gear is. I didn't see what all the buzz was about so I ended up not using it as often. I don't see the point in people pretending to play on "hard", yet use a weapon which is an obvious portal to easy mode.

If I love Metroidvanias will that mean I'll love these games more than you did?

Also, what did x7 do to offend you so badly??

You could enjoy it, they are definitely good games. The problem with being Metroidvanias, however, is that there's no incentive to explore or anything. There's really nothing in the world, and no character progression, so the world just feels hollow and useless to explore.

X7 added 3DS levels that played absolutely horribly. There's a gravity level that is singlehandedly the worst Mega Man level I've ever played.

Sorry if bugging you at this point, but how did you enjoy Mega Man 7 and 8?

I will plan on picking up MMX7 at dirt cheap then, thanks for the heads up.

You're not bugging me, no worries!

MM7 and 8 are well worth playing. 8 is a little too slow for me to consider great, though.

5 is the one I'm most excited to replay. It was my first Mega Man game ever.

5 is a blast. I recently played through it a few months ago. Terrific music, lots of fun, interesting levels. The downside is that it's way too easy and the robot weapons are pretty useless.

2 probably holds up the best out of all of them. I should replay it soon.

I've been wishing they'd put 5 on the US PSN. I bought 2, 3, and 4, lots of fun on a PSP, but I guess I sorta feel like my childhood is incomplete without 5 there :p

I always considered 3 the best of the NES games but my run through the other week left me wondering about that, I could do with replaying 2 to refresh my memory.
I still think MM3 has the best NES soundtrack though.

I've actually yet to finish MM5, I got it earlier this year and I just got completely bored if anything, still sitting in that proto man castle.

X7 is a hugeee mess of a game all around. Bad controls, bad gameplay, bad level design, bad boss fights, bad weapons, etc

The music is good though.

Oh man, I'm so excited to get to the X games. So much fun.

You don't have to tell me. I'm having so much fun playing the game again. And I get to share the experience with others with adds to that fun. Speaking of...

Run Dat ReXXX!!! Mega Man X Part 5: Dead Lift Me Straight to the Top of Heaven

My X-Buster fight with Boomerang Kuwanger went fine seeing as he only landed the Dead Lift twice on me. Could've been a much better skirmish but it could've been worse. Next time I get to show off a bit and take out my problem Maverick.

I did a perfect run of Pharaoh Man, but the goddamn thing didn't record. So I had to redo it, and it wasn't a perfect run, and I blew it against Pharaoh Man who typically is the second easiest boss in the game after Toad Man if you time the Bright power at the right second.

But oh well:

Part 3 (Pharaoh Man)

Tried picking back up on MM5, but I just can't go on, got to the Wily Castle stages now and there's just something about this one that repels me.
Which is funny because of course it plays the same as the rest of them which I guess is sort of the problem, level design is okay, some nice platforming at least. But I guess the real problem with this one is the feeling that after 4 previous entries this was the best they could deliver? mostly awful weapons, hiding a few letters in each stage for a barely worthwhile reward, okay music but nothing seems to stand out as exceptional.
It's the sort of game where had I played it earlier on I probably would like it a lot more or perhaps a few years down the line i'll have greater appreciation for it but right now it just feels like the most uninspired entry yet.

It's not even bad, I just can't feel any desire to push through more castle stages, i'll always consider them far less interesting than the RM stages and it seems MM4 went and made the games start doubling up on them, rarely is anything new introduced, just more of what you've seen before and what you've seen before was probably in previous games as well.

Special shout out to the traditional spiked wall descent section in Wily 1, you land on a platform halfway down and can leap off to your left or right, if you choose right you pretty much can't not die as when the screen scrolls down a layer of spikes is revealed directly below you, not that there's much issue here because enemies vomit lives but even so.

On a more positive note the room before Darkman where you lowered the ceiling by shooting the columns was pretty neat in concept and the game runs better than the other PAL entries.

I actually remember feeling almost like this the day I got it. It was the first MM game I beat in one sitting, that sorta put me off a bit. I remember noticing everything seemed incredibly short and uninspired, with level design focused on some NES technical trick. The game felt like so much basic polish had been sacrificed for the sake of making an NES game feel more modern (well, for the time, if I recall correctly this came out the same year the SNES did). I actually liked the castles stages, I felt they were better than most of the boss stages.

I used to really find the game's OST the most boring of the NES entries, but listening to it the other day I found my opinion isn't quite so harsh now. Now I just think it's like the MM6 OST, decent with some flashes of excellence.

Still dying to play it again though :p

Mega Man 4

Mega Man 4 is often seen by fans as the first dip in quality in the original Classic series, typically being rated below Mega Man 1-3. However, this is one of many times that fans have been off, as Mega Man 4 outdoes Mega Man 1 and 3 in almost every single way, despite not reaching the heights of Mega Man 2. While the Robot Masters are still lame compared to the first two, they are a major improvement over the likes of Mega Man 3’s Top Man and Hard Man. And although the series introduces a two castle setup that would be another staple of the series, as well as the introduction of the chargeable Mega Buster, they do not add much to the game. What is there, however, is a far more balanced game than any of the previous games, with no weapon truly outweighing the other, the second best soundtrack in the series, and a more difficult adventure than Mega Man 3. It’s not fantastic, but it is an improvement over its tame predecessor in just about every way.

Grade: B

Dust Man is so goddamn lame.

Contemplating getting a Dust Man avatar in protest.

My man!

I still think 3 is trickier, especially the Doc Robot stages. I bet it's because you hadn't touched it in a while.

Yeah, Mega Man 4 was definitely a lot better than I remembered from 8 years back. I remember thinking back then that it was the worst of the NES games.

Anyways, Mega Man 5 time! Game is still easy as shit. I make it through Gravity Man's stage without getting touched once, and the only reason I got hit against Gravity Man was because I stopped to look at the clock. Playing the game 50+ times as a kid doesn't help the difficulty, since I still remember the exact locations of every single enemy in the game, which is sad, hahaha. Every single enemy I can destroy before they even get on screen by shooting and then scrolling the screen toward the enemy. So damn easy!

Gravity Man Playthrough

Beat Crystal Man and his level. I only got hit once if I remember correctly, and that's because I jumped when I meant to slide. I've been playing all of these games with a goddamn fucking ANALOG STICK. Yes. But I have gone through 4 straight Mega Man games without dying once, so I am satisfied.

That said, Crystal Man absolutely destroyed me. As a kid, he was always the only one who gave me trouble. And this wasn't any different. During my no-hit run, I got lucky where he didn't do his four-ball crystal attack, which made him a cinch.

Oh well:

Crystal Man isn't really one of those bosses you're supposed to go after with the mega buster ;) I really like his stage music, though.

Mega Man 3 will always be my favorite. Mega Man 2 was just too easy.
Hard for me to take the ones after 3 seriously.

I always envisioned a new Mega Man series mixed with online multiplayer aspects from PSO or Monster Hunter. Eight bots (Men) named after planets, open world stages for each, the ability to customize your own blue bomber how you'd like...

Bah, who am I kidding, Rock is dead :.(

I absolutely loathe the special weapons in MM5, so I refuse to use them every single time I play the game (the last time I used the special weapons in MM5 was the first time I played the game when I was 4). They are all garbage, outside of a few cool uses of Gravity Hold.

Not to mention, outside of him, the Mega Buster absolutely destroys everyone else.

Crystal Man, Napalm Man, and Charge Man's weapons can be abused quite a bit actually, they're not bad, especially against certain enemies (I mean beyond the usual weaknesses).

Stone Man's weapon has got to be one of the dumbest things in any MM game ever. I have to admit I thought the swirl was cool when I was young.

Hahahaha, I love Stone Man's weapon. It's absolutely terrible, but out of all of the times I've played through MM5, I've only ever thought about using Stone Man's weapon at one certain point, despite never having used it since my first playthrough when I was a kid.

Other than that, I haven't even thought about using a weapon in MM5. I find it funny that the only time I've thought about using one, it's Stone Man's of all weapons.

I remember when I first got it I was like "damn that's so cool", next stage I bust it out thinking it'll be great for clearing out rooms... and the damn thing bounces off of half the enemies or does like 1 buster shot worth of damage.

The Mega Buster is pretty balance-killing. It's no surprise that they removed it for MM9 and 10.

The only time I've ever though about using it was this one time in one of the Wily or Dark Man stages, I don't remember which. But it's one of those big red dudes that stomp you. You're climbing a ladder and sometimes he'd get to the ladder before I did, and I'd be stuck there.

I'd sometimes thing about using Power Stone to kill him since it would lineup perfectly, but then I'd realize that it would be much faster just to reset the room and then kill him with a mega buster than sit there for 10 hours waiting for the Shit Stone to kill him, hahaha.

There is a bit I remember from the other day in the third Dark man stage I think where you climb up a ladder and yeah, the red stomping bot can corner you causing a retreat to the ladder where upon he'll continually bob up and down over it, resetting the room was indeed better than the stones, believe me I tried!

For some reason, I was never really impressed with Mega Man 5. I don't know why... something about the game felt off to me. I told myself "it's bland" but it isn't. While it didn't introduce much to the series (Beat aside), the level designs were creative.... but something just didn't click with me. It became my least favorite NES Mega Man game.

I seriously wasn't a fan of Crystal Man's stage though. Stupid falling crystals :/

6 has always been my least favorite... but I think part of the reason is because it's the only one I didn't play as a kid. I didn't actually get to it until I was in my early 20s.

Ironically I think I tried 5 once and loved it. ...Then I played the other games. I was pretty late to the franchise though, MMBN3 was my first Mega Man game.

I always look at MM 1-5 through a kid's filter. It would have been fascinating to have played those games for the first time as an adult, with all that I know now.

(I guess MM 9 and 10 scratched that itch somewhat, although I don't consider them near the quality of MM2 or 3.)
