Halo |OT10| The Calm Before The Storm

Why all the jumping on Moa? He bought the soundtrack and uploaded it to a youtube channel just like all the other millions of youtube users do with music. I know it's easily possible to download from youtube, but he's not encouraging people to download it or anything, and he didn't steal it himself.

I understand the copyright reasons for taking it down and everything, and Moa has said he understands the situation too. Just relax. He did it, it got taken down. Move on.

Because he keeps complaining about it here like he's some sort of victim and seems to be expecting some sort of sympathy for doing something questionable at best.

No sympathy, just reasoning, breaking US street date, do they not want the content online at all?

Any ways, ranting over, nothing is gonna get done about it by venting about it on GAF, continue your normal HaloGAFing.

Not surprised Talents got banned. Saying shit like that just won't fly. Hopefully he realizes why people are offended at that kind of language.

Very glad that spoiler Twitter account was shut down. I'm technically not spoiled yet!

Also, is Tashi doing the league? I had some ideas, but if he wants to do it, that works too.

Well I wasn't sure if you wanted to do a league or a tournament so I kinda just stepped up and took lead on it. I'm obviously going to need some help with it and am open to suggestions but I think I have a pretty good idea of how it's going to be. Want to talk to Ram too and see how they do it over with MaddenGAF

Nah, not at all, people should have to purchased the Soundtrack to listen to that track too right?

The three tracks for the remix contest can be downloaded freely. Awakening, To Galaxy and Revival. But you're not meant to redistribute that as is the norm.

Tell me what needs to be on it and I can manage it for when things kick up. It can be flexible enough so that you can use it for whatever tournament/league you want. Just seemed like a handy way to get names and deets in spreadsheet form fast without having to track everyone down.

Maybe a tournament/league OT could be a nice home for this stuff (when more deets are decidided upon).

What do you mean? Are you saying that it was taken down because it hasn't been released in the US yet?

Technically, posting music or video from a soundtrack, film, or show isn't permitted on youtube. It has nothing to do with street dates, it is simply a copyright issue. You have to have permission to use such materials.

What's the reason for 2v2 rather than 4v4? Just for easy scheduling?

Easier for everything. The other tournament took months to complete. This way, people can partner up and there chances of just 4 people being on rather than 8 is much better.

Yea an OT will definitely come. Community side though. Still a little early to start working on an OT though. I wanna really kick it into gear when Halo 4 rolls around.

Would it be one game per week, or is that too few? Cos there needs to be a hard time limit on the matches before starting imo.

Yeah, I don't want no spoilers being entered into the fields so ask me again a few days after launch and I can do it no bother :p

That Google Doc stuff is great. I could csee a really handy summary of the responses which included a pie chart showing what percentage of the submissions lived in the US compared to Europe, bar charts showing which format they want totake part in and a list of suggested teammates people wanted. Sweet.

I wouldn't be surprised no, but the fact that the all the other Halo Soundtracks are still chilling on YouTube and have been for years while they could be purchased by a person instead is just messed up.
How's that messed up? The amount of copies those OSTs sell now is negligable compared to the amount of effort it would take to try and take every video down from youtube. But this is a brand new OST, one that hasn't even been fully released yet and you're putting the entire thing online. That greatly affects the sales of that OST. What's hard to understand about that? Are you a child?

That level is the best for screwing with the loading zones, especially if you set up the spot where the Pelican will punt you..

I first fell in love with Halo by exploring outside of levels in Halo 2 (I played 2 a bit before 1 at a friends house). It became one of my favorite things about the games, because there was always a bigger world than the path presented to you. Going on tourist adventures through Halo 3 co-op outside of levels was a fantastic memory as well.

Are there any standout ones in Reach? I was turned off by the "Return to the Battlefield" warning. I understand it in Multiplayer, but it was part of what I loved about the campaigns in previous games.

For those who've played, does the single shot of the LR take up three bullets?

Each shot, scoped or unscoped, takes off one bullet from the ammo counter. It's not like the BR in how it displays, but it is in how it shoots (unscoped).

-EDIT-

Yes. When scoped in the HUD ammo display changes to show this.

Not true. It displays like the BR when unscoped showing each individual bullet and then they combine to demonstrate that it is single shot when scoped in.

Yup, but the display changes.

When you're un-zoomed it displays the ammo is groups of 3. Each time you shoot, it removes a group of 3. When you're zoomed, the display for the ammo changes and each group of 3 is combined into one shot. When you shoot zoomed in, one of those shots disappears. As far as ammo is concerned, one shot zoomed = one shot un-zoomed.

You have 12 shots in a light rifle. Which means 2 kills max on one clip unzoomed in but 3 kills max zoomed in.

Should've been more clear in my post, but you guys are right. I only meant it as a vertical ticker per trigger squeeze, nothing separate to count (ie: don't have to count the individual bullets to see how many shots are left). The bullets themselves come together depending on scope.

Tashi, I'd be willing to help you out. My thoughts:

  • For the first "season" have it be 2v2 like you said.
  • Play a matchup per week.
  • Each matchup is a best of 3 or 5.
  • Map/Gametype is chosen by the league hosts.
  • Leagues are based solely on region.
  • In the leagues you can have teams be ranked in a top 10.
  • Those top 10 games will be matches of the week.
  • Who plays each other is determined by the league hosts.
  • After the season is over, top 16 teams play in a playoff.
  • Use the stats from the games to "rank" players.

This fits quite well alongside society's great cry of "other people do it, it must be right". I hear it most often from a lot of the middle and high school students I deal with every day. So young, so silly. lol

This is almost exactly what I had posted already lol.

I get lost at the top 10 rank thing.

I was going to have a set schedule like in football for each team to play another team once a week. By the end of the season we check the records and form a playoff bracket. The Win/Loss record will rank teams in the playoffs, not their stats.

Can you imagine how awesome it can end up being? Imagine there are only a few games left in the season and there are only a few points between the top teams. The tension building up to it. The chance for a massive upset. Possibly live streamed. These feels man.

Well I don't know if points will be implemented instead of or in combination with win/loss but yea the tension in the last few games as teams try to make it into the playoffs will be awesome. There will be a lot of, "we need to win these 2 games and have these people lose and hope these other guys win" I just hope the people who cannot make it in the playoffs by the end of the season will be good sports and play the matches out.

Yep, I took quite a bit of it, since 4v4 might be tough to keep everyone going, like the last tourney was. The top 10 thing would be a way to keep tabs on who has been playing well and who to watch for the upsets.

Would you be keeping league stats at all though? I think it could be handy for those that want to switch up teams after a season or whatever.

Ideally it means we will get more consistent matches in terms of scheduling.

Set the schedule for every match. If the players can't make that match time it is up to the teams to work out a new game time. If they don't complete the scheduled match before their next scheduled match the game goes to coin toss.

If a single team goes to coin toss two times in a row (two weeks in a row) they are eliminated from all future matchups.
