I remember the days when I had more time than money. Now I can't even imagine pirating games. Can't even finish the ones I pay for lol

CoD has very short minimum kill times but it becomes a game of who-sees-who-first due to the slow base movement speed, nonexistent strafing, and the ridiculous amounts of aim assist. CoD and CE share the short minimum kill time, but CE is not a game of who-sees-who-first.

I've killed plenty of people who have seen me first and had the upper hand. So not always.

I really don't understand the hate or negativity towards CoD in the Halo community and vice versa. Two completely different games. I like both, you play them for what they are.

I'm not sure how you don't understand how difficult aiming will help out. This is what you do. Load up octagon with one of your buddies, make sure you're on the same team, and actively try to kill each other. Play that for 2 minutes, come back to this thread and you will not repeat that statement. It's ridiculously hard. That is with all aim assist and bullet magnetism turned off, mind you. And for the record I do not think that we should opt for zero aim assist unless we decide to go for a 1sk or a 2sk utility weapon. Basically, it would be cool for SWAT but that's it.

And to answer your question, CE has quite difficult aiming. Even the best players can't 3sk consistently with the magnum. Compare that to Reach where an average player can pull off 5 shots quite often and the best players can do it very consistently. The goal for the game developer is to have a very short minimum kill time and a notably longer average one. If you want another example, let me know.

Also for the record, bloom made the weapons more random than it did make them difficult to use. And if you play ZB Reach, you will notice that the DMR still has quite a bit of auto-aim. Thankfully in H4, the autoaim is determined by the inner circle now and not the outer circle. This means aiming will be more difficult in H4. :)


Because it adds to the movement skill gap. Adding in acceleration/deceleration simply limits the effectiveness of jukes. It's not a clear cut decision to turn it on or off though. For example, I would be very skeptical of adding instant movement to vanilla bloom-sprint Halo: Reach as I feel it will drag on the average kill time by an unneeded amount. But for a game like Quake, not having an instant strafe would be pretty bad.

Hopefully it is things like this that will actually make gun combat more interesting and difficult in the long-run. Would be nice to have options to adjust all the assist stuff as well.

I agree with the Halo:CE to Reach stuff. I have never been awesome at shooters but I do like to improve my skills and have fun. Maybe Halo 4 will find a good balance. Soon find out!

I never pirated games because I never had a decent comp to play them on, the work required to get them running was more than I was willing to invest, and it always felt shady. If I find a game worth playing, I'm paying.

All leaked sources say there's no way of turning this off in Customs. This hasn't been OFFICIALLY confirmed by 343. We also know from leaks that there is no way of making classic CTF in customs. If this was horseshit I feel Frankie or Ellis would have said something.

Catching up to this thread. Not sure if anyone answered the oddball question in the next 30 or so pages but I've seen gameplay that showed that you can turn oddball autopickup off.

Yeah it is totally impossible to have a friend who has it and bring his capture card along, don't saying he didn't pirate it, but I also would be careful to accuse somebody of doing it, without knowing it for 100%.

Well then you should be happy to hear that H4 has way less aim acceleration, making it easier to aim in that sense. Apparently the aiming feels like H2 (not referring to autoaim) and not excessively slippery like Reach and H3. Many who played H4 have reported on this, including myself (@ Pax).

Sweet! I look forward to it! The wait is so hard but I trust the HaloGAF crew as their thoughts come through. I promise to play Halo 4 and not spend all my time in Forge...maybe...

I admit, my claim of CoD being like that was a tad exaggerated. You make a good point. This further strengthens the point that fast kill times won't make Halo turn into who-sees-who-first.

1) Concept art for the new maps look great.

2) Kudos to MS and 343 for releasing some information on the upcoming maps ahead of the release of the LE and the Map Pass. Nice details and art, and it's great to know the timeline of the releases.

3) I'll update the OP in just a minute with the map pass info and art, and the two trailers.

4) RIP Scorcho. I've know him about as long as I've been on GAF, ~10 years or so. I'm really crushed that he's gone, but glad he's no longer in pain. He fought to the end with great strength and grace.
 
I'm not sure I'm sold on the idea of bornDidact wanting to destroy humanity.
Unless it really is due to blaming humanity for the Librarian's death. *shrug*

I wouldn't recommend complaining about that stuff around these parts. I hear the natives are very protective of all their base. They are belong to them, you see.
