Mass Effect Trilogy releasing this November on 360/PS3/PC (including ME1 on PS3)

Still no release date for the PS3 version but at least some interesting facts from the producer Ryan Warden on twitter:

regarding ME1:
"some things (including, but not limited to: texture popping, overall performance) are improved on the PS3"
"well, "new coat of paint" isn't quite fair. But "remake" implies way more. It's... a port. ME1 engine with ME2 PS3 touch-ups"
https://twitter.com/LesPaulDuJour/status/252893678354460672

and rather vague
"We're trying to retain the classic experience, but make some targeted fixes"
https://twitter.com/LesPaulDuJour/status/252892325527822336

but no deeper changes like the new combat system
"it doesn't have ME3-style combat. It plays like the classic ME1"
https://twitter.com/LesPaulDuJour/status/252145685460312064

and the PS3 version is made with help of Edge of Reality (they already helped with the console ports of Dragon Age Origins)
"yeah, we're working closely with Edge of Reality for ME1 PS3. Performance feels really good overall"
https://twitter.com/LesPaulDuJour/status/251762322668933120

Maybe with some of the PC version fixes? From what I understand they at least improved the inventory system and Mako controls in that version (I never played it on Xbox).

I wonder how they will handle the DLC, specifically for Mass Effect 2. Some of it was included with the PS3 version. It would be nice if they packed it in with all the versions in this release.

are they promising 30 fps?

Did any mass effect game run at stable frame rate on console?

Mass Effect 2 on Xbox 360 seemed to hang around a stable 30 FPS most of the time, but it's been awhile. It was definitely an improvement from ME1. I'm glad I got a PC for those games now, though.

Can't wait to play ME1 again. Hope the improvements make the experience closer to the PC version.

Same here, besides that tom foolery of a loot system and some mechanics it was a fun game and a great start to the series and universe as a whole, just a shame about some of the choices they made after it.

Lol I cannot believe they aren't putting any of the DLC in this collection. Absolutely unbelievable.

I am also curious about the fact they are umming and ahhing on the PS3 DLC. The original Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 came with a crapload of DLC for free. The way Bioware and EA are behaving towards the PS3 version it's like well ..... erm do you think they will actually have the balls to remove the DLC from the PS3 version and put it up for sale ?
I would guess the ME2 DLCs are still included. Who would buy the trilogy if you get more content by buying the games separately? :D
But I agree, it's a bit weird they are so shy about saying anything about the PS3 version.
At least "soon" there will be more informations.

The inventory for the PC version was adjusted for Mouse controls. I would suspect they rather use the same as in the 360 version for PS3. Not sure about the Mako, haven't played the 360 version either.
The "targeted fixes" probably just mean bugs that where never fixed. I think there were some import flags in the save files that weren't saved correctly and stuff like that.

Keeping my eye on this. Curious as to what the price will be in the UK, and when the PS3 version is out.

I didn't know this was confirmed. Good to know though. I have ME1 and ME2 on PC. No reason to get this now.

I'd like a PC sale on DLC but I'm not holding my breath.

The only reason the Mako controls better on PC is due to keyboard buttons where you can't make the mistake of a slight move of a controller stick and see the Mako do a crazy unwanted turn i guess..

Assume the Mako will be just as bad on PS3 than it is on 360.

Same with the inventory, a mouse is just better and faster to navigate a menu than a controller stick.

EDIT: Apparently already posted at the top of the page.

Worthy of a new thread? I think it's ridiculous that the PS3 version of ME2 included DLC, yet this trilogy set for 360/PS3 has almost nothing.

According to BioWare’s official site, the Xbox 360 version will not include any of the paid downloadable content. Meanwhile, the PC release will only include select DLC for the first game.

On the PC, the original Mass Effect disc will include the Bring Down The Sky and Pinnacle Station DLC missions. On the Xbox 360, users must purchase that content through the Xbox Live Marketplace. Bring Down The Sky is 80 Microsoft Points and Pinnacle Station is 400.

For Mass Effect 2, customers will need to buy the Overlord, Stolen Memory, and Lair of the Shadow Broker content packs separately on PC as well as Xbox 360. The same goes for the Mass Effect 3 Leviathan add-on.

BioWare hasn’t announced any details about the state of DLC for the PlayStation 3 release.

We’ve contacted publisher EA to determine the reasoning behind these pricing and DLC decisions.

ME2 and 3 are pretty consistent on the 360 at least. ME2 on PS3 had good frame rate, but ME3 has plenty of awful drops according to the comparisons.

Yeah, walking around the Presidium Commons of Citadel in ME3 was at times like watching a slideshow, and the canyon battle of Leviathan DLC was nearly unplayable on PS3.

Hyperbole much? I just spent 20+ hours in ME3 on the PS3 and never saw the frame rate go below 20fps. Slide show would be like 2-5fps. The frame rate never interfered with the game play. I swear without DF telling you all if a game dips in frame rate you guys wouldn't have a clue.

Haven't played the DLC but the regular game was not a slideshow.

ME2 on PS3 had horrible loading times but a good framerate. ME3 had better loading times and a shitty framerate.

Also, not including all the DLC is to be expected of EA. They even kept the DLC for ME2 separate for the PS3 release, except for the larger mission packs.

No hyperbole whatsoever. It was not all the time, but occasionally the framerate went really low. So low, that moving the view from one point to another resulted with a brief pause, followed by the view being somewhere else. The same thing made the canyon part in Leviathan a pain in the ass, as aiming was almost impossible. There was also continuous hiccups in framerate when you moved forward in those areas. And I spent over 50 hours with the game on my PS3 fatty (RIP), so get off your high horse.

EDIT:

The Presidium Commons was the only area in the main game, where there was noticeable framerate problems, as far as I can remember.

Yes I read several times of this problem and saw videos on youtube, and I don't know what causes this, but this is not how Mass Effect 3 normally runs on the PS3.
Some scenes aren't completely smooth and in some cutscenes it gets choppy, but the game stays always at a playable level.
I didn't have any problems with the game or the DLC. Sad that Bioware apparently never fixed the bugs you (and many others) experienced.

It seems so, as some others haven't apparently experienced the same. I wonder would those problems occur on my new PS3 slim.
EDIT: Come to think of it, I played the Leviathan DLC on the slim.

BTW, there was also continuous hitches in the audio in the same Leviathan part. I dunno whether the fact I used the PS3 wireless headset had anything to do with it, although I haven't witnessed such problems in any other games.

I guess this has something to do with the different HDDs in the PS3 models.
When I exchanged the HDD of my 80GB Fat I suddenly had a lot of audio problems in ME2 with cut off dialogues. I bought a new HDD from a different brand and ME2 runs fine.
Never had the problems with ME3 either. I use the PS3 wireless headset as well.

I actually had put a WD Scorpio Black HDD into the fatty, one that was 7200rpm/16MB cache, so perhaps that was the problem? Although, there were no problems in other games. I did experience similar audio/cutscene problems in ME2/3 as you described. IIRC, I hadn't exchanged the HDD before I played ME2 though.

I had a WD as well with the audio problems. With the Seagate Momentus they were gone.
Yes not every game was affected for me. Dead Space 2 was flawless. Probably depends on how much they use the HDD to load data.

So it looks like the WD might have been the source of the problem, but it's still a mystery why Leviathan had those hitches on the slim with the default HDD.

So, they need to fix mass effect 3 on ps3 or at least the cut scenes. Those are unwatchable for the stuttering

It's a strange problem. I suspect that the Mass Effect games are just a bit over-sensitive in regard of HDDs no matter if they are "official" HDDs or others.

Do you guys think there's any chance of ME2&3 being made available on Games on Demand upon this collection's release?

Am I the only one who didn't really run into any problems with ME3, besides the first level FPS and an occasional dip when the action got heavy I didn't have any trouble with the game performance wise in game or cinematic.

I'm surprised they aren't in Games on Demand in the first place, I had assumed they were as both, ME2/ME3 were on the PlayStation Store on release.

I was surprised how smooth ME3 was on PS3 after hearing how bad it was supposed to be. I plat'd the game and had very few fps dips. I did however have a glitch where the entire ending had no sound for the dialogue. I had already finished it on 360, so it wasn't a big deal to me though.

I experienced short pauses in the audio at one point in the Extended Cut's ending, but had no problems with the original.

Same here. Only had slight hiccups with the frame rate in Mass 2 or 3. Nothing serious and never that long.

Sounds like a budget combo release to me. They aren't bothering to spend money adding the DLC to the disc and re-certing. They're just printing the same disc again.

PS3 would HAVE to be dlc right? They wouldn't release all the ME1 dlc at once would they?

Or they just... wouldn't release it at all.

Well there are only 2 pieces of ME1 DLC, and Bring Down the Sky was the only one worth having out of the two, which was included in the ME1 Platinum rerelease, so hopefully it is that version.

But this is the here's a rushed ending with a pretty important lore character as DLC Bioware, I wouldn't put it past them to just give us the base game and expect us to buy the DLC.

Still not a exact release date for PS3 but at least something:
"We're working hard to try to get it done in time for Christmas. :)"
https://twitter.com/LesPaulDuJour/status/253946100560560129

and they are working on it since April:
https://twitter.com/LesPaulDuJour/status/254088181333499904
I thought this was a late decision, apparently not :)

and a speculation:
the trilogy for PS3 will be released on 3 discs although the bluray should have enough space for at least 2 games. He explains it with "it would also mean putting three builds through Cert and not one, which would delay getting the games to you"
https://twitter.com/LesPaulDuJour/status/253902656349814784
if they give only 1 game to Sony for certification I would conclude they just use the exact discs for ME2 and 3 as released so far which would mean ME2 will have the same DLCs included. Otherwise a new ME2 build without the DLCs included would probably need additional certification was well.

I'm pretty sure they have to include the DLC in the PS3 version since none the ME2 stuff is available for download separately on the PSN store...probably cheaper from an ROI standpoint to just include the same content for ME2 from an ROI standpoint as I'm not sure many would buy the DLC standalone at this point.

The Platinum Hits rerelease had the BDtS DLC on a separate disc that you had to pop in the 360 and install on your hard disk, so chances are they aren't going to use that for the PS3 version. I wish they would include that disc with the 360 version of this set, since it also had a lot of interesting docs, trailers, art and music, and it would be a nice consolation prize for those buying what is essentially the worst version of the games.

But yeah, there is no reason not to include the ME1 DLC with the PS3 version other than trying to squeeze some extra cash out of the buyers, which, unfortunately is probably enough of a reason for EA.

I hope its Christmas. I hope PS3 gets some DLC. The only ones worth it to me are the extra squad members.
