It's impressive, that's for sure.

EDIT: I won't ever move to Android, nothing is consistent.. from the software updates, to the icons.. most phone's don't even have 4.0 and even fewer have 4.1.. I can't imagine how long it's going to take to get to 4.2.

not to mention each phone's ability to use apps.

How often do you upgrade your iPhone?

Thankfully when we want

He is right in saying most of the phones aren't even on the latest OS

And the argument about some features being removed from older iPhones is true, but still some of the features are available.

Talk about being open, when the phone carrier controls your updates...fuck off mate.

Lol get a Nexus noob

It's literally less than 1/2 seconds lol

I don't really carried that's deemed as being smoked!

The google search doesnt have the benefit of being a native app, and in that video its also running on inferior hardware, while siri is running on the fast new iPhone 5 hardware. And the Google search is still faster.

And if you're not on wifi, google search's will be even more faster.

This "one model" is probably going to be shitting on most phones on the market for a while and have a pretty good long-lasting value, especially with future versions of Android and improvements from Google Now.

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting the Nexus on the 13th

But I just don't think Android proponents make it 100% clear about the Nexus line, it's not totally smooth sailing.

I don't even think of my VWZ Nexus as a Nexus phone, lol

Its kinda not. It may as well be any other phone. They held Jellybean back until like... a week or two before JB started rolling out to the Galaxy S3's. Google will never release another Nexus phone on Verizon.

Despite all the bad blood between Android and iOS I get the impression Google as a whole has a better relationship with Apple than they do Microsoft.

Google is ecosystem building. They don't care whose platform their stuff runs on so long as its viable.

I thought Android had "choice"

Yeah get THIS ONE MODEL OF PHONE FOR GUARANTEED UPDATES

Just like the Verizon Galaxy Nexus....right? http://www.autoomobile.com/news/verizon-samsung-galaxy-nexus-lg-google/1006564/

That's pretty disingenuous. If every vendor and carrier were exactly the same they could all run with the stock operating system - but they are, and as such there will always be delays or refusals to update older hardware. This happens on every platform.

I just told you bud, you don't. It requires Android 4.1, so if the S2 ever gets Android 4.1, you'll have it, if not, well... too bad?

It's downright insulting that iphone users get it before a lot of android users if you ask me, but I suppose motorola/samsung/htc being shit about updating phones isn't necessarily directly googles fault?

Just update to 4.1 manually by rooting and flashing a custom ROM.

Search up your phone on XDA for how-to's etc.

Do people really say "whats the weather like san fransico"?

I thought simply "san fransico weather" would be shorter and return valid result.

I do the same as you but that's because we think in what it takes for Google to know what we want. There are lots of people who type regular structured language into a search query.

Google app is hella fast recognizing voice (Siri needs to get upgraded in ios7 to catch up to this), but siri's sports data blows googles away. On Saturdays all I do with Siri throughout the day is keep up with scores of individual games or finding out when they are played. Google just takes me to official webpages. That is a big loss for me.

They need to update the Chrome app to be as nice as the the google search app. Chrome feels clunky in comparison.

Not that your 3GS point doesn't still stand, but to be fair this is a standalone app and isn't integrated with the rest of the OS.
Then why does the ipad mini have Siri and my ipad 2 does not with the same hardware. I really doubt that extra 512 MB of ram is holding it back.

Why would it need multitasking? It only needs to do stuff when you look at it.
Google Now is more than just a search. You can use it to get real-time updates on a lot of everyday tasks so those cards will be ready for you and displayed before you search - from the notification pane. Hence, proper multitasking to run in the background.

Tried out the Google Search app, works really great and fast. I was surprised about it transcribing what you're saying while you're talking as opposed to hearing everything and then putting it all down at once. I also found it funny because the latter is the way it currently works on search on the Nexus 7 - I assume this will be fixed in 4.2

Also this cloud voice natural language comprehension is stupid. You mean to tell me you can't run these algorithms on an A6? Even if it was considerably slower it's still useful for when you want access to offline things.
Yeah, have fun training a local neural network on your iPad.

I does need something - but I would argue that notifications would be enough.

Wow. Just tried it. It's a joy to use. Works wonderfully.

Apple. I better see a huge improvement on the next major OS upgrade.

It's faster. I like how you can see the recognition as you speak to see if it's gonna get it right ahead of time. Voice is much less robotic. Results look clean with a small widget, and more results below. Apple definitely getting a bit outclassed here.

I can't seem to get it to work on my ipad 2 properly. :(

I try to search "borderlands 2" just gives me "borderlands". Then ask the circumference of earth but just reads "what is the".

It's fast but not as seamless as Siri for me...
