…makes Siri seem so slow, jesus. God damn Forstall.

So, we can blame all the problems with Apple on one guy >_<? Is this like the opposite of Steve Jobs, where he was praised for everything good about them?

Yeah I just played around with this a minute ago, and it's crazy how fast it is. Is it this fast on all android devices? If so amazing because siri can be really slow. And i love the interface. iOS is so fucking stale these days.

Fast as hell, gets accents. I can't really recall training it either...? Its one of the only things im impressed with from my phone. Its a droid2 though..

One thing I love about Google is whenever they come up with a great idea that works well on Android (such as Google Now here) they will put it on iOS as well. No platform loyalty at all despite the Android vs. iOS fan wars.

It's weird that they do release things like this for iOS. I'd have thought it'd be a great selling point to keep on Android instead. But yea, Google Now is well ahead of the curve.

I can see that showing off how superior your technology is, through a competitor, is pretty good.

You know how much data they will collect from iOS users using this? That's why they do it (which is fine by me).

They should build this into Chrome (on all platforms). Works really well on my iPod Touch 4G, faster than on my rooted HTC Incredible running 4.1.

Phones these days are pretty amazing. I wonder if we might already be approaching some kind of ceiling in 2013. Seems like most new devices are already checking most of the boxes.

Yep, there is no difference to google between someone using the Chrome app, Google Now app, Gmail app...etc on a iPhone and someone using these over Android.

It's cool that it's really fast but I have no idea why I'd use this.

Siri isn't anything amazing for searches other than the fact that's it exists outside an app. The fact that this is an app I have to click on makes it even less useful. What makes Siri awesome is OS integrated features which this will never have.

Also this cloud voice natural language comprehension is stupid. You mean to tell me you can't run these algorithms on an A6? Even if it was considerably slower it's still useful for when you want access to offline things.

You keep a phone for ~2 years contracted; google gets them into their products now, theres a chance the customer will go with them for their next phone instead of Apple. Those that don't? Well they'll still be using google's search functions - not their competitors.

Google wants your searches more than they want you to own an Android device. Android is just a means to that end, anyway. Google Now stays an Android exclusive anyway, this is like the shareware version in comparison.

Well, is there really a point to doing it on the client side when it's a search application to begin with?

Google Now is miles ahead of Siri or the pathetic S voice that comes on the GS3

This also makes a great case for offline data which because everything is pushed into the cloud it makes devices less useful and cellular carriers happy.

It's impressive, that's for sure.

EDIT: I won't ever move to Android, nothing is consistent.. from the software updates, to the icons.. most phone's don't even have 4.0 and even fewer have 4.1.. I can't imagine how long it's going to take to get to 4.2.

not to mention each phone's ability to use apps.

Oh yeah? Are you going to give Microsoft credit for typically putting other platforms ahead of their own mobile OS?

They're so selfless.

Of course they deserve credit for that when they do it. Consumers use iOS and Android. It's where their users are. It should be their main platformers. Nobody cares about WP8.

I can't believe how fast it is.

When I picked up my N7 I had a Google now vs Siri "walkoff" with the Apple cultists at work and the speed and accuracy of Google Now just smoked Siri.

That said, I have used it a few times for real uses, but mostly as a party trick

Im always shocked by the recognition, and its ability to accurately interpret what I say, even with my mild accent/drawl. I pretty much use it for setting all alarms, reminders, and to replace the calculator and for stuff like measurements and math. But beyond that I'm also not that huge a fan of all the voice stuff. It has its uses though I suppose.

I wonder if they'll put Google Now on iOS. Voice search is nice, but Now is where it's at.

I love my N7 and I love Google now. It still has a ways to go but it is only going to get better and more useful. All of this makes me wish the N4 was on Verizon.

The technology they're using for voice recognition is pretty incredible and should continue to improve over time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ZXtudZl5mzM#t=209s

This is actually even faster than the N7. Really impressive.

Wish I could set this to the default instead of Siri...it's astonishingly quick with its response.

Ok. This is the first offical F*** YOU to Apple I've given since the unveil of the original iPhone.

THE VOICE THING WORKS ON THE 3GS AND IT'S STILL SUPER FAST! FU*K YOU APPLE!
