Even if it is a Bayesian Network, are you saying proposing to store all of it on your device instead of the cloud? That would'nt be very practical, would it? I'm sure the database must be a monster.
This was the first time I've clicked "Install" in the App store and when it finished it changed to "Update" instead of "Open". Peculiar.
EDIT: after using it I think the biggest difference is that it is processing your words on the fly, something that Apple desperately needs to do with their Siri/Dictation. As it is now it always waits until you're completely done before you see any results, which is brutal when using dictation in ML

Depends on how they do it, grammatical comprehension isn't so much different than machine translation. Frankly I'm not so convinced there's even that much processing that needs to go on though. To parse "today" and "weather", or "Obama" and "birthday" to get you 90% of the way there is stuff search engines have been doing since the 90s. Granted those last 10% of queries may not work but hey it's better than it not working at all.
No so you will never be able to use it to set the alarm or anything like that in IOS (pretty sure Apple would never allow that kind of integration as it would directly compete with Siri)
Actually if they release all their great stuff on ios Apple is somewhere like "These mofos fell into our trap" lol

Wow. This is fast.
It is much faster than 'a second or so'.
And of course it's faster to access Siri from the OS, but that isn't what people are talking about.
If Siri could talk back to me this quickly, set up my reminders, notes, or events this fast. I'd be so happy.
I sometimes find it taking Siri several seconds to "think" about my speech before finally reacting, even on good connections.
Sometimes it never responds, and I close out and try again.
Plus, being able to interact with the results was pretty awesome. (such as weather)

It seems very similar in functionality to what I have on my Nexus 7. That's the only reason why I'm comparing the two.
I've only found it to be about a second faster in my limited testing of a few voice searches, but I'm not trying to downplay that or anything. A second in this case often means twice as fast. It's noticeably faster than Siri.
I was just pointing out that the speed advantage is somewhat offset by the steps/time it takes to launch the app.

as an iOS user, I will say this is very slick. Very solid-love it. It still doesn't recognize everything I say clearly, but neither does Siri, so I'm chalking that up to me being a mumblemouth.

You can get a Nexus.

Google is innovating at a much faster rate that Apple in almost every aspect of mobile software development. I can't get over how much better Google now/voice search is than Apple's Siri.
This is just voice search with a swish interface, the underlying voice recognition has been in Android for years. Google Now is like a generation beyond that and starts to provide you information you want before you even search for it. It's probably the most impressive thing I've seen on a smartphone.

But holy crap, it's picked up every query perfectly so far - a lot better than siri here - and it's super fast. Really nice to see it spell out what you are saying as you say it too, and correct itself as it goes.

But verbally it just says "Apple Computer was founded by Ronald Wayne, Steve Wozniak, and others." I dont think they are being funny though. Ask it who founded Oracle, or who founded Johnson & Johnson. It seems any company founded by more than two people only have the first two names read aloud, then it just says "And others" but displays the extra names on screen.

If I could just "switch out" siri for this, I'd be all up on it. But if it's not integrated, I'm never ever going to use it. The convenience of it being 1 hold away or for dictation is why I use it, the accuracy and speed is usually good enough for me.
But hopefully this prods Apple to speed up Siri too!

Google's voice to text implementation is local, apple's requires the web. That's where a big chunk of the speed is at.
The reason it is $700 doesn't change the fact that it is $700.

The original iPhone was priced around $700 without a contract. Last year's iPhone model on cricket without a contract is at $500. I bet a 5 would be $700. I don't think contract has anything to do with the price.
