Google Voice Search for iOS

Ok. This is the first offical F*** YOU to Apple I've given since the unveil of the original iPhone.

THE VOICE THING WORKS ON THE 3GS AND IT'S STILL SUPER FAST! FU*K YOU APPLE!

It's not Google's job to make you want to buy new Apple hardware. =)

Apparently it's their job to embarrass Apple's software design team though, because as you pointed out it's obvious that voice search doesn't require top-of-the-line hardware.

Not that your 3GS point doesn't still stand, but to be fair this is a standalone app and isn't integrated with the rest of the OS.

Im always shocked by the recognition, and its ability to accurately interpret what I say, even with my mild accent/drawl. I pretty much use it for setting all alarms, reminders, and to replace the calculator and for stuff like measurements and math. But beyond that I'm also not that huge a fan of all the voice stuff. It has its uses though I suppose.

and it works in other languages too

Amazing!!!

I'm sure this would be awesome if my Android phone ever became Jellybean (it won't, it just got ICS a few days ago). It's incompatible with Android 4.0, only works on 4.1 or better.

To be clear, I like android, but holy fuck do i ever regret not getting a nexus (I'd get the new nexus, but im on Verizon... so I can't get that either).

How do I put this on my S2?

Do you have Jellybean (aka Android 4.1?) because if not, you're SOL.

It's the shittiest thing about android, as a rookie android user, I bought a non-stock google phone and I'm paying the price. I'll always but nexus's from now on.

If it had 4G it would be hot shit. It's unconscionable to put out a flagship phone in 2012 without 4G.

Most of the world doesn't have LTE and the only carrier in the US with decent LTE won't have a Nexus sold on the Play Store and may never get a Nexus phone again with how they handled the GNexus.

Then we'd have a real mobile OS, real maps option, and a real voice search option. I support this idea. Buy them. Buy them right now.

And never have a need to innovate again!

Apparently it's already installed on my phone, it doesnt talk back to me though :(

How do I get the version in the link?

I just told you bud, you don't. It requires Android 4.1, so if the S2 ever gets Android 4.1, you'll have it, if not, well... too bad?

It's downright insulting that iphone users get it before a lot of android users if you ask me, but I suppose motorola/samsung/htc being shit about updating phones isn't necessarily directly googles fault?

Lol. It's funny the year Apple finally catches up with the rest of the competition on the LTE front, is the year that the omission becomes "unconscionable".

Is the volume up when it's suppose to talk? I made that mistake when I was flashing around trying to get it to talk back to me.

For non Nexus users, you can root your phone and load the latest and greatest.

They've innovated with screen resolution. That was a pretty big change that forced everyone else to catch up to. Then for some odd reason Apple chose to go backwards with the Mini. Now if we could get Apple to innovate with the OS and Apps. Maybe yesterday's exec shakeup will lead to real innovation in the software space.

They innovated when they had competition. If they bought google, they won't have a need to innovate.

Wow it really does put Siri to shame. Glad I don't have to buy an android phone to enjoy this feature

Google's been collecting voice data with android long before Apple started with Siri. The data is why it works so well.

...

:(

I suck at phone tech

How do I update to ICS? I want the cool new stuff, dammit.

Not to mention all the voicemail transcription stuff they've been doing for years. I imagine that's a database several time larger than just search queries.

Was just telling my friend the other day how much better this looks than Siri. I haven't tried either out extensively myself but if I get a new iPhone I'll make sure I try to.

I'm pretty pissed off, frankly.

If the iPhone 5 didn't have LTE, you would still be seeing the epic fallout from the global thermonuclear meltdowns.

Uh you're forgetting blackberry

Course Nexus 4 is half the price of an unlocked iPhone, so...

Expecting LTE from a $700 phone is one thing... a $300 phone is another thing entirely.

Why would it need multitasking? It only needs to do stuff when you look at it.

In fact I worked on an iOS travel app that behaved a lot like Google Now. Even the design was similar. Very creepy.

how would it detect you leaving work and pop a card for your route home that avoids traffic or update you on the score of your favorite teams or automatically suggest a nearby rib joint without background activity?

Do people really say "whats the weather like san fransico"?

I thought simply "san fransico weather" would be shorter and return valid result.
