slightly off-topic but there hasn't been an unboxing of the US system yet, right? Is it known yet whether the bundled Nintendo Land is a boxed copy or just Wii Sports-esque packaging?

Aren't they the same thing? I'm a bit confused but I think Europe might be keeping the Miiverse name but not America?

Miiverse is the name of the ENTIRE online service (posting comments in games, etc). Wara wara is the name of the opening screen when you turn on the Wii U where you see all the miis running around to the different game tiles.

(edit) Not to be confused with the Nintendo Network which contains your user name and eShop...

In short, Nintendo needs to maybe consolidate some of their services so the names make a bit more sense.

Not yet, but I believe IGN is posting an unboxing video later today.

I hope Nintendoland comes in an actual plastic box. My copy of Wii Sports is scratched to hell from the cardboard sleeve it came in.

Edit: No I must be wrong because I see Miiverse logo on the Japanese video too.

The WaraWara Plaza gets it's data from Miiverse. Like comments in games and people playing them. I imagine that if it isn't connected to internet it would just show games you've played without Miis on the plaza, or probably just the Miis stored on your system.

Oh ok. So Miiverse is more like the multi user system that pops up in multiple places like inside game or in the plaza. I think everyone's been calling the plaza Miiverse since E3, so I should be confused.

Well, check this out: http://www.n-sider.com/blog/2012/11...ngs-wii-u-nintendo-direct-that-maybe-you-didn

Screenshot in there of a user's profile in Miiverse. It has "ID: willwill," as if to imply that his... ID is "willwill." And that sure aint a number.

So yay?

Could be.

And a screenshot feature?? Presumably the 2 identical screens were the pad and the TV as they were both showing the result screen.

Watching the Miiverse thing in the Japanese video it looks like it brings up a forum like thing, which I think should eventually be available on the Web. Maybe?

Bad, unbelievably bad. I mentioned this earlier, his Japanese sounds as stereotypically "American" as is possible.

He's the perfect charicature of American culture to Japan now that I think about it.
As an american business man, why wouldn´t he sound as "american" as possible. For everything he gets flak for I can´t understand how this would be bad. I would never talk down on a Japanese CEO for not talking good english, he can have a translator for all i care.

The Iwata Wii U unboxing video was really awesome for some reason. I liked his comments about feeling like a home network shopping channel.

Iwata is the man.

So they moved all of the UI features to the pad screen. What happens if you start the system without the pad on? Do those icons switch to the TV?

WOW @ that deluxe unboxing, beautiful! And Iwata is as funny as ever.

So VC/Wii Ware transfer won't be day one or we will know per a news update soon on the site, is that right?

I'm pretty sure its day one, I just hope its more then one way to transfer them, they said before you have to have both Wii and WiiU in the same room, but I hope you can just use your SD card, and sign into your club nintendo, since club nintendo knows what games you have on your Wii.

Yep, that's what I thought too, I wasn't sure. I laughed when he said nihon no mini-san :D

Yeah, I mean, let's be honest here: Iwata's english is hilarious. Don't think anybody has criticized him over that (although, this being GAF....).

Isnt Miiverse the same idea as the Playstation Home? Avatars interacting and talking inside a virtual place?

Not really... in fact not even close. The entire purpose of @home was to create a "second life" experience where as MiiVerse is the main menu and doesn't have you moving your character around so much as simply seeing what other people are doing via their avatars.

Finished watching the Japanese Direct. That was a pure gold mine.

WaraWara Plaza looks so sharp. People shouldn't complain about it in all honesty. Everything is like... right there. It doesn't look like a hassle to navigate unlike the XMB.

Miiverse is basically Nintendo's take on twitter. Looks sharp too. I was very concerned about its useability and interface but now that we know Hatena are the developers I feel a lot better. Those guys understand fun, simple, social networking.

I wonder how Nintendo will handle the fact there will be hundreds of games to display at one point. The most played games will always be on the front?

I dont know if its just my crappy resolution on my phone, but is that a Hitman icon on the top left in the begining of the NoA WaraWara video?

Watching Trinen's presentation and can't stop thinking at how weirdly his neck glands move when he talks

For those with an insight into Japanese culture, are there any comparable home karaoke machines with the same features as the one for Wii U?
Do you think this may turn out to be a killer app in Japan?

The PS3 has had an online Joysound app for around a year now.
